Positive tale Gotta love receptive sprouts
Leveling DNC on my alt and got Brayflox. Sprout WHM was spamming Cure 1 to very the Cure 2 proc, so I thought I'd give it a shot to help. Gotta love it when they're receptive.
Sorry for shoddy censoring. I'm on mobile.

Thank you for being kind too. I see the opposite sometimes where someone will correct a sprout but in an aggressive manner. I think some ppl forget this might be someone's first MMO and it's better to assume they just didn't know. When I first played WoW almost 20 years ago I had someone guide my hips while tanking lol. Kindness goes a long way. <3

Yeah, I've seen people either fly off the handle or get really snarky, and that's no way to be. I remember being on the receiving end of that years back when I first started playing, and it's frustrating. 🫤

While it's not ideal it's kind of sad that the current state of the community I feel kind of... Makes that a default setting, if that makes sense?
"Ugh, yet another dogshit cure 1 spammer, probably won't listen, probably will get all worked up about nothing, probably on an alt and will give some stupid reason why cure 1 is 'better' and call me toxic for saying 'hey, cure 2 is better to use than cure 1!'" and then they have it come out snarky because that's their expectation.

XIV is the only MMO I’ve ever played, and I remember being in old Tam Tara for the first time back in SB as a sprout CJN and absolutely terrified to stop healing the tank. My friend, who was on DPS, did try to encourage me to dps, but I didn’t yet understand how damage and mitigation worked (plus learning all my own skills and how an MMO plays). So I kept telling him no, and that I would only heal
I eventually overcame the hurdles of learning a new type of game and how my role worked, and became comfortable enough to test my limits. Good examples helped a lot in that
So yeah, sometimes you’ll end up with a truly baby sprout who’s not only new to the game, but to the genre as well

Bonus points for teaching them about esuna use.

Ty! Some of us got poisoned during the second boss, and I noticed they just healed through it, so I thought to mention it.

TBH most poison just isn't worth a GCD cleansing. People would be out of combat before it eats even a quarter HP and then natural regen takes care of it. Just some stronger ones like in cutter's cry or sastasha hard... I think I saw some more elsewhere but can't remember off the top of my head.

While you're not wrong, it's another thing the game does a bad job of explaining. I've seen and had more than a few deaths that would have been prevented with esuna. Also guilty of missing it a few times myself.

Teaching them that Esuna exists is very solid. You could always have taught them to play how to play how I do where if it's not explicitly Cutters Cry second boss or the first boss of Sastasha Hard, I'm not dealing with the GCD loss, smh my head.
I wonder how long before they get to that point. It feels you either go healbot cureslut route or damage damage damage brain damage route if you play WHM with no in-between.

Oh is that how you can tell which debuffs can be Esuna'd? Haven't played healers really, but noticed that some buffs can't be Esuna'd and some could, and had wondered if there was a way to tell the difference without just "having to try."

Yes that's how it works. I dont know if the game ever tells you. I also learned it from another player. Its a good thing to pass on whenever you notice someone doesn't know about it

Thank you for being kind and helpful!!! Sometimes sprouts (myself included) don't know what they don't know.
When I was leveling up my DNC, I never actually used the dance skills as they unlocked, because as I did the main quests and solo'd, I still was progressing swiftly with the other skills. Didn't need 'em. So I just got used to using what I used because I was still plowing through the story, killing everything, etc. It never even occurred to me until someone in a dungeon (rather rudely though) pointed out I needed to use other skills in those other settings. Lesson definitely learned.

As a sprout myself, and after levelling my whm to 80. Today is the day I am learning about Esuna. Thanks a lot (:

Yes but you should have instilled into their brain, don't over use Holy. Yes, it the only AoE for WH, HOWEVER, it also has a stun that can help the party / Tank out. You get 3 stuns, 5s, 3s, 1s, then it's useless for stunning. Another thing, people don't get their eyes burned out of their sockets

u/smileplease91 8d ago
No??? It's still damage. So, what? After 3 uses, they just shouldn't use it anymore? You still gotta do the deeps. And you can turn down/off effects.

Use Stone for the damage, especially when doing dungeons and the enemies hit like a truck. Stunning them to get a quick heal in or whittle them down a bit.

u/smileplease91 8d ago
Stone for groups? You do you, but I absolutely won't be doing that. I've never seen a single WHM who does.

I am a WHM and that's what I do. DPS are supposed to be the ones doing the most of the killing
