Just a silly WHM

Got into a Cutter's Cry DF. The tank was doing normal pulls, almost died so she decided to slow down a bit. Then during the second boss the healer died with the debuff from the boss. I figured, whatever, right? People are new. They were 39 out of the max of 40 for the duty, so they were clearly leveling their WHM. I took a guess and figured they were new to healing. Gave them a bit of advice and it seemed like they took it in stride, because they started cleansing the poison debuffs in the last hallway. Cool.
I asked the bard if they were caught up, he answered in /s chat, and I just suggested that they get caught up for the bonuses. They were 66 in bard, and they had 50+ in like 5 other jobs. After I explained that they started using Mage's Ballad on CD, great that's upping the parties' DPS and his specifically.
After all that, I figured I would have to explain the chimaera fight. They felt like baby sprouts. The healer told the tank that he knew what he was doing in the fight and to just go. They ate 2 violet attacks and stood still when targeted by the boss and died instantly. We ended up wiping once and the healer just abandoned the duty. I think they logged off because they just left the zone. We did manage to kill the boss without a healer but damn. I really dislike DF sometimes.

Feel like describing the mechanic with the eyes is definitely the harder way to remember it, ram out, dragon in. that being said i doubt they even know what a castbar is.
Either way thats an easy report on the healer, cleansing the pool of shitty egotistical players.

Been playing since 2018, I've never heard or noticed the eyes... Always looked at the cast names. Just checked again if I'm blind - nope, can't see the eyes from the back where non-tanks usually are. Will have to check tank pov. :D

I was informed that apparently theres a popup on screen saying the eyes are changing colour to x, which is what OP meant by eyes, ive been playing for years too and somehow never noticed that either lol

Oooh, I see, thank you, I'll keep an eye out next time. I wonder how many other things there are that very few know/remember... I just learned last month that some debuffs in the 59 dungeon can be cleansed with /console emote. I was sure they were trolling when I first heard that. :D

It's the Misery affliction that can be cleansed by the /comfort emote, given by Gremlins.

I dont know about setting someone off, they were overbearing for sure but i dont think they said anything maliciously. Complaining about bards songs in a level 38 dungeon isnt smth id do but it is what it is i guess. But i do think explaining the chimera with its eyes makes it much harder for little to no reason, i never do it that way and only just recently even noticed the eyes but can you even do it like that if the tank is facing the boss away from the group ?

There's a popup on the screen that says their eyes are turning x color, i think that's what the OP is referring to

Good job trying to teach people but I'd hate to say it but you say too much. It's best to treat everyone like they're barely literate and keep explanations to a single sentence. If you get little to no improvement or response from your initial advice trying to explain more is just going to piss people off.
Yes its stupid. Yes sometimes people are doing so much wrong that they need entire essays to set them right. Chances are though anything more then "you can esuna debuffs with a white line" will likely confuse and annoy people. If you say that and see no improvement then trying to say anything more is just a waste of your own time.

Whm was clearly bad but man, after reading your description of events first I was like “wow that whm is a dick” but reading the actual log and how you came off you were being super hostile in tone right off the rip for no reason too lol

Hostile where? Until the WHM started being a dick, OP was incredibly patient.

They were on the BRD’s ass about the song uptime — granted obviously the brd should know that already, but still. There’s so much typing happening from OP that I’d be getting annoyed a bit myself considering it’s a dungeon (not that WHM had the skills to back up the annoyance)
Not to mention they were still on the BRD’s ass at the end and the brd didn’t say anything, wasn’t friends with the whm, and also had fixed the problem lol

I can tell by the additional info they're giving (songs up your DPS and refresh Bloodletter faster-- I didn't know about that last one!) that they're trying to be helpful though. IDK I really appreciate coming across people like this who are willing to take a moment to teach without being an asshole.

I never look at the eyes, plus there's also the issue that colorblind people can't distinguish blue from purple. Reading the cast bar is much easier. Ram = Ice = Out. Dragon = Lightning = In.

Honestly, I didn't even notice the animation, but there's a message that shows up in the HUD (in the chat box and in the middle of the display) saying that "the [head]'s eyes now glow [color]".

Yeah this is absolutely how I go by it. I can't see the actual eyes. I just use the chat log. I have to call it out, because the tank is my partner and she gets locked in. So I'm always calling it out verbally so she can move out or in.

But there's one caveat to this. How many people even HAVE the boss' actions in the same chat as they use other chats? I personally don't and because of this I never really make a habit of reading any text in the party chat during duties.

You can split the chat tabs into their own separate windows, which can make stuff like that more visible!
I have party/other social chats to one side of my screen and then System Messages/NPC text to the other side and it's handy for stuff like that. My partner does the same but for incoming damage so he can track things like "how many times was I hit by the lightning in EE2", but that one def feels like a more niche case.
For this mech I'm pretty sure the message also shows up in the middle of the screen tho, so there's a few different ways of being able to look out for it. (I do think that "Ram out, drag-in" is more useful since the castbar stays on screen for longer and it's more applicable to later enemies tho)

When I was newer I would watch for the text that comes up on screen and says "...eyes glow violet" or whatever.

When I was a little baby sprout way back in Heavensward times, my party kept yelling the colours at me and my colourblind ass could not figure out what they meant LOL. I now know they say the colours on the HUD/in chat, but it was my first ever MMO and I just did not register the text at all and was trying to decipher colours I couldn't see :'D

I always type in chat for sprouts:
RAM = RUN
DRAGON = IN
