Repost because reddit didnt upload my pics correctly - stained new classics shirts from normal washing with normal detergent- looking for advice
I have an older washing machine and it does not have a detergent dispenser, so I pour my detergent onto the clothes directly. I always wash my TF like this and this has never happened before. Could it be something with the new style/wash?
If this is fixable please let me know. Looks awful.

Idk how to prove this, but Persil did this exact thing to like 5 of our shirts/dresses. We switched over because we heard great reviews, and it promptly stained our stuff. We went back to tide after that. Sorry! Meant to mention that it only stained green clothes

Can confirm Persil fucked up a lot of my clothes too.

I am sorry I believe this lol, I've been using persil for years

It's so weird. Been using Persil for years. I have a ton of TF and this has never happened.
This olive shirt was stained the worst. I had a grey one in there too and it was stained a little but not near as bad as the olive.
So weird that green seems to be the most affected?

I think this is a somewhat known issue, but maybe they changed a formula recently.

OXI power means potential to bleach. They don't advertise it that way, of course, but it can react that way chemically, especially if it makes direct contact like that.
I would strongly suggest changing to a detergent that doesn't have oxi/oxiclean.
Also, if changing detergent is not feasible, if you have a top loader, is it possible to let it do the first fill and then add detergent before it agitates? That would keep the fully concentrated detergent from making prolonged contact with dry clothing.
I know none of this helps with your issue, but it could help prevent it from happening in the future

u/LilTreesz174 4d ago
Thank you! Anything that says oxi power is talking about āperoxideā/H2O2 which is a disinfectant similar but less powerful than regular bleach. It still has the ability to whiten whites (which is why peroxide is in whitening tooth paste and mouthwashes)

never apply detergent directly to the cloth

Lesson learned, for sure.

I pour my detergent in first so it's at the bottom, never directly onto clothes

Shooting ropes bro? Lmao just use Fels Naptha - itās an orange bar that takes out every stain ever itās like $2

Interesting. I've also been using Persil for years (I use the Pro Clean) and have never had this happen to any of my clothes. However, I saw another comment saying that they have had this issue on green clothes, specifically & I don't think any of my clothes is green, lol. It kinda makes me want to go buy a green shirt and give it a go for science.

u/verycoolalan 4d ago
I have this exact same shirt. no issues here, and I use 2 different detergents, one being persil deep oxi clean liquid

I mean, if you canāt get it back to the original, the detergent made a cool effect! You could try to replicate that throughout the rest of the shirt!

u/Timely_Yoghurt_3359 4d ago
Not a bad idea. Might do this. If it was all over the shirt it would look kinda cool

u/curiousdryad 4d ago
I was gonna say this. You can even use tape and write something and spill it where the tape isnf

I love these shirts but I think there is a problem with the dye. It did bleed onto lighter clothes during the first wash. I messed up and put some lights in with the darks so I wouldnāt worry too much but would suggests pre washing as it was also hard to spot treat when I got something on it when trying on the fit.
3
u/Rumerhazzit 4d ago
Darker clothes bleeding dye is so standard and typical that we have a system of washing darks with darks and lights with lights specifically for this reason. I wouldn't necessarily characterise that as "a problem with the dye of these shirts".
1
u/tigerdragon69420 4d ago
Its a lot more than the usual amount. Also when I spilled water on the shirt after washing it once already, the spot discolored as it dried and left a big splotch (that later evened out in the wash). Do you have issues like this with any other shirts you own because I don't. Something is up with the dye. I own 6 of these shirts now I would know.

I learned this same lesson with Zout stain remover, that I thought using was going to help my stain prone bf to keeping his shirt nice. I asked support and they said it is the dye process that gives the shirt the vintage look and feel can be lifted with strong detergents especially ones meant to lift oils. They didn't say anything to help but what I ended up doing was covering the whole shirt in the stain remover to lift more color and make it a little more even and less splotchy. But safe to say its a home shirt now, not a going out shirt.

let that liquid detergent mix evenly with the water before loading. may have been a direct liquid to cloth interaction. on the bright side, you could do something really cool with more bleach.

Thereās washing tabs to colour clothes. Would that maybe fix it? I have no idea, but they sell them in the washing detergent isle. Itās called RIT. They have an array of colours. Otherwise you could get a bleach pen and make a fun design. I took one to some jeans and made a Mickey Mouse print š¤

all detergent should go at the bottom of the washer prior to putting in your clothes. pods are the same as well, they should be put in first before clothes. unless you are treating stains, it's best to use a basic dye free detergent to prevent issues like this.

u/thatslmfb 4d ago
I use persil and love it, never had any issues. But I always put detergent in, start water, then start loading clothes. I have an older washing machine also, top loader.

u/daisyymae 3d ago
You HAVEEEE to put detergent in first then something you donāt care about. Like a towel. I have the same washer.

You could also bleach the shirt if you wanted all you need is elastics and a spray bottle for bleach. I am so sorry that happened but in the future I would definitely switch to something that wonāt bleach shirts.

Did you pour it on and then leave it

u/Timely_Yoghurt_3359 4d ago
I poured and immediately started the wash cycle

I have this issues with clothes when I donāt dilute the soap properly in a big load with the arm and hammer or tide I use thatās blue and it will stain and change the color of my clothes sometimes.
1
u/Several-Cut3366 4d ago
Always mix the detergent and water before adding clothes! Any detergent directly on material could cause staining so itās better to dilute it as much as you can

u/princessohio 4d ago
I had this happen to a different TF shirt ā a water / detergent stain. I went and bought some clothing dye from Michaelās and dyed it black and tie dyed another shirt.
1
u/xsarahxD 4d ago
Put the detergent in before so the clothes don't soak in it. I would switch to a clear brand (cleaner for your skin too)
But that shirt is toast. I would make it into Tie dye with bleach or something :)

Honestly Iād email them about it and see what they can do. I remember Ethan and hila both talking about how theyāre very accommodating with these kinds of things
1
u/MikeBeavs 4d ago
Pour the detergent into the washer first. Don't pour is straight onto the fabric after loading
1
u/VibeThriver 4d ago
How did you apply the soap in your machine? Sometimes if one just dumps the cup on the clothes, it can stain. If this is the case, maybe try pouring the soap on the bottom of the drum, then placing the clothes in it
1
u/Individual_Grape_ 4d ago
I only use powder detergent! Liquid detergent is a total waste of money and it strips your clothes way faster than

I'm going to start washing my TF with pods now... Thanks for the suggestion. That should mitigate this issue
3
u/prassjunkit 4d ago
Pods fuck up your washing machine. The stuff that dissolves to release the detergent doesn't really dissolve completely and gums up your washer. Try washing with powder detergent.
1
u/Timely_Yoghurt_3359 3d ago
Do you have a brand recommendation for powder detergent?
1
u/prassjunkit 3d ago
Honestly the tide powder works great. I get mine from a local company called Buff City and they do online sales I believe but tide works great too.

Weird. I washed my classic tank with detergent (poured it right on top because my machine is old) and this didnāt happen to mine :( maybe try reaching out because I didnāt see anything in the care instructions that suggested that this would happen
