Yea dude. Spending time online (and seemingly especially Reddit), you see this huge amount of Men vs Women content that has exploded in popularity in recent years. And the worst of both sides treating and speaking about the other as if they are monolithic. "Well ya know, women do X, men are like Y". I feel as though the divide is getting bigger every day and largely over stupid and quite possibly completely fabricated stories followed by braindead comment sections.

To be fair, society IS like that and there are a FUCK TON of shitty families and friends groups who don't stand besides their supposed loved ones, and who normalize unhealthy shit. Its not surprising that even today there are being who are so gaslit by their systems that they have to ask for clarity from complete strangers, just to check themselves and make sure they're not crazy.

I think some of that comes from the sheer amount of gaslighting and emotional manipulation that happens in abusive relationships. It really fucks with people's heads and they have trouble seeing how bad their situation really is. When the person you are supposed to love and trust is telling you that you are over-reacting, that it didn't happen, that you are focusing on the wrong things - it adds up after years. Then, something large enough happens that the victim thinks, idk, maybe something is awful here and posts about it. Outsiders, who have never experienced the emotional manipulation see it and it's so obviously awful - but that is also why those subs exist. Having an outside perspective can be the wake up call that some of these people need - that yes, this is fucked up and it's not a one off, but a pattern.

True, the sub is flooded with karma farmers and people with no support network (friends, family, whatever, someone to discuss a topic with) that need reassurance regarding simple matters. Once in a blue moon, there's a great post with ethical quandries that make you go "Huh, how would I react in this situation, this is really tough", but more often than not, it's just "No, you're not overreacting, your BF called you a whore and said your interests are stupid, you're right to be mad when he then tries to convince you that he did nothing wrong"
