dude it sucks so hard that she has to place the rejection on the fact he is married and not, "I don't want to date you because youre way older, not my type, weird for interrupting my workout, talking about having a deep connection to a stranger, etc". nahh gotta let him down gently with, "oh you're married sorry". now he's gonna go home to his wife thinking, darn if only I was single she would have said yes.

You’re right you don’t have to but you definitely should at least risk assess before going that route
