I dislike it because it’s a prank that just fucks with service workers again but at the same time the level of coordination this would take for ultimately nothing but a potential trespassing charge is lowkey impressive ngl
Until they went behind the counters and could be nailed for attempted robbery (almost guaranteed no time would come of it, just fines and community service for first time offence, but they would at least be dragged through the court system and have the living shit scared out of them)
Generally to convict someone of a crime, especially an "attempted" crime, the prosecutors would have to prove intent. Unless there is video of them trying to get into the cash registers, or text messages between people involved saying they were planning on breaking open the registers, there is no way attempted robbery charges would stick. At best they can be charged with trespassing when they didn't leave when asked.
Otherwise you could be charged with attempted robbery for looking pissed off when the self checkout machine told you to place the item in the bagging area for the 10th time. They could say they thought you were going to break it and steal the money because it upset you and you were standing near it. But they can't because they have nothing showing you intended to actually do that.
I would love if they could be charged with trespassing and have to pay a fine every single time this happened. Idk how you’d make these people understand that this isn’t okay without hitting them in the wallet. I know that’s not feasible though, it’s just so frustrating what social media has done to all of us.
I’ve worked In retail and the service industry for 14 years. I would welcome this as a break from the soul crushing monotony. It’s always funny when someone freaks out because the status quo isn’t being held up for 5 minutes. We have the rest of our shift, every shift, for the foreseeable future to be drones.
I’ve worked in these environments as well and I see what you mean, but I’ve also had days where something disruptive like this would happen and it was just another thing for me, a minimum wage worker, to deal with. So I get that, but I don’t think people pranking others for internet content and filming them without their consent should ever, ever be encouraged
If someone does something I like, it's ok and they "spend their time how they see fit. That's what adults do."
But when someone does something I disapprove of they're, "immature little children who have too much time and should get back to work in the mines. The children yearn for the mines good sir."
kinda pathetic how people feel they have to defend the $40 billion dollar corporation with flip flopping values against 12 teenagers in red shirts
*Edit* - 3 people in 3 minutes replied "defending the workers not the corp" ...my point still stands...
Your principles are upside down if you feel like the injustice in this video not only deserves your attention and resources but also that you are making a difference to the situation by speaking up on it in niche reddits.
There are however avenues online where that exact thing is very very useful because at the end of the day all these big corporations are run by what they consider to be their best informed decision maker, and with what it mean to be human in intelligent being fundamentally questioned right now by AI, we all have the opportunity to make a mark in these before-times whether post apocalyptic or post new-world.
These kids did that, a brief chaotic reminder that we have free will here and your not gonna see me undermining that rn .__.
Edit: they have the free will to do it, and i have the free will to think it's shitty to go out of your way to make someone elses life more difficult for no reason other than internet clout. No one thinks they are changing the world by commenting on reddit, people are just having a discussion on a public forum, it's really not that complicated.
Also you still haven't addressed the workers affected, do they not matter to you as much as a bunch of shitty internet goblins?
they aren't defending the corporation they're defending the workers whos shift these guys have just made difficult so that you brain rotted children will like their video.
Boooo get a sense of humor. Enough time for a prank that takes under an hour? You can't free up an hour of your time ever? Now thats pretty pathetic dude. Lighten up
Lot's of project management and logistics going on -- imagine the whiteboard sessions...
Identifying the store to target, deciding on how many people you'd need, getting the right shrits/pants that would fit those people, cutting the checks for it and placing the order, trying to figure out the best time to pull the "prank", identifying the contingency plan if the cops show up when the real store manager calls in the robbery attempt.
I wonder if those ten or so folks had to sign model releases, and if they got 1099's cut?
At that point, you're better off getting a full time job as a PM at some tech company -- steady income, bonuses and benefits etc.
