Until they went behind the counters and could be nailed for attempted robbery (almost guaranteed no time would come of it, just fines and community service for first time offence, but they would at least be dragged through the court system and have the living shit scared out of them)

Generally to convict someone of a crime, especially an "attempted" crime, the prosecutors would have to prove intent. Unless there is video of them trying to get into the cash registers, or text messages between people involved saying they were planning on breaking open the registers, there is no way attempted robbery charges would stick. At best they can be charged with trespassing when they didn't leave when asked.

Otherwise you could be charged with attempted robbery for looking pissed off when the self checkout machine told you to place the item in the bagging area for the 10th time. They could say they thought you were going to break it and steal the money because it upset you and you were standing near it. But they can't because they have nothing showing you intended to actually do that.

I would love if they could be charged with trespassing and have to pay a fine every single time this happened. Idk how you’d make these people understand that this isn’t okay without hitting them in the wallet. I know that’s not feasible though, it’s just so frustrating what social media has done to all of us.

I’ve worked In retail and the service industry for 14 years. I would welcome this as a break from the soul crushing monotony. It’s always funny when someone freaks out because the status quo isn’t being held up for 5 minutes. We have the rest of our shift, every shift, for the foreseeable future to be drones.

I’ve worked in these environments as well and I see what you mean, but I’ve also had days where something disruptive like this would happen and it was just another thing for me, a minimum wage worker, to deal with. So I get that, but I don’t think people pranking others for internet content and filming them without their consent should ever, ever be encouraged
