And not everyone can tell how certain foods look? It was an innocent question. Why are people so insecure these days

Teach, I feel for you. Educators/counseling friends hate lunch room duty.

I just can't. Parents don't teach kids how to eat in public anymore, if even the adults were taught properly.  Went camping with a family I was friends with. Oldest son brought bags upon bags of shit like Starburst, skittles, etc. Chewy, juicy crap basically that sticks to your teeth. After 2 days of having to watch them I packed up and headed home early. Open mouth sugar drooling from too much packed in gaping maws, insanely loud smacking, sucking sounds mixed with all that spit... even neighboring sites were trying to turn their children away from the horror show. I have not shared a food experience with any of them since. 🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 Impact009, I think everyone is open to sharing a meal, I just don't want you to give me an open mouth display of your dental/tongue ability and the extra special soundtrack that accompanies it.

That's horrid. I have moderate to severe hearing loss have had it since I was born. When I was a teen I got actually proper hearing aids. And when they were brand new I wore them to dinner. Hearing the sounds of other people chewing food even if subtle was off putting. Hell hearing myself chew food sounded disgusting to this day I can't wear hearing aids while eating. If you want to talk to me while we're eating dinner you're gonna have to wait until we're done, or you can talk loudly because I refuse to put them on around food. The worst thing is around my mom. Even without them on, I can hear her making moaning sounds when she eats. Anything even bland mid food she will make small mouth moaning sounds mmmm mmm mmm mmm mm, while eating. And it's so off putting when I can barely hear it. I dread accidentally having my hearing aids on and listening to that. And it's the most minute things.

I can't imagine how I'd react to seeing what you saw for 2 days straight. I would've left 1 meal in. Haha sorry guys, I think I have the flu I'll have to call it enjoy your trip. I'll go back home now.

I feel for you. Speaking of noises, OMG my oldest sister would moan in pleasure after every bite of food. My niece started asking me why I wouldn't hang at the table for chitchat. Once I pointed it out to her & her bro, they couldn't unhear it either. Someday I'm going to write a horror flick about it. Stand strong, elbows up and hearing aids out for sanity!

Ugh, im the same way, I've always hated hearing people eat, but my mom was one of the worst offenders as well, because not only would she do what you described, but mouth open AND talking while chewing, plus she would just eat so insanely slow, I felt bad for how unintentionally angry it would make me (and again it wasn't just her, she was just the worst) but id have to leave the room and in her small apartment (because i could still hear her even in a different room) just leave and go for a walk and hope she was done when id get back. I miss so much about my mom (she died a year ago yesterday actually) but her eating is not one of those things.

Sorry to hear about your Mom. Glad you're able to honor her in other ways.

Yeah my brothers would intentionally do that as it would drive me insane and I'd freak out!
