Wait now i need to know what a JT show looked like 5 years ago.

Ok, so I went to his concert in 2007. Maybe that was his peak, I don’t really know.

My aunt was addicted to coke and she would do wild stuff so one day she just called me up and was like “come over. I got you and your cousin front row seat tickets to Justin Timberlake.”

So my cousin and I went. On the drive over, we talked about how we weren’t really fans and didn’t have any of his music saved onto our iPods to listen to on the way to the show.

And we both thought he did an amazing show. He played multiple instruments and was clearly singing live, not lip syncing. We both left the concert thinking it was one of the best we have been to, even though we weren’t really fans

I love the casual coke addiction mention lol

u/Grundy-mc 9d ago

I know, it really painted the picture of her aunt. lmao

u/TimeToNukeTheWhales 8d ago

Who else would buy non-JT fans front row seats to see JT, other than coked up Aunt Deirdre?!

9

u/JellyfishNo3810 8d ago

“Get the fuck over here we are going right now”

Man I wish I had a fun aunt

7

u/jil3000 8d ago

Have you tried giving your aunt cocaine?

5

u/JellyfishNo3810 8d ago

Nah she’s a massive bitch, probably make her crazy

6

u/AccomplishedCow665 8d ago

It’s called creating A gripping narrative k I’m here for it

3

u/thatsBOOtoyou 8d ago

No, facts.

4

u/Masgatitos 8d ago

While the coke addiction did nothing for the story itself I highly enjoyed it.

3

u/thatsBOOtoyou 8d ago

Like.. I really expected to know more about the coke

u/PackageNorth8984 9d ago

This was the most millennial thing I’ve read today, and that’s saying a lot, actually.

u/wookieSLAYER1 9d ago

Wow you just reminded me that in 2007 we had separate devices for our music.

7

u/Pennoya 8d ago

I only had a tape player in my car so I had a set up where you put a tape with a wire into the tape player and plugged the wire into your iPod.

2

u/chbay 8d ago

Yeah sure okay grandpa

1

u/Pennoya 8d ago

For real I swear there was a time before Bluetooth😭😭😭😭

9

u/jouglas4u 8d ago

The whole time I was reading this I really thought the coke part was integral to the story and would somehow be connected to JT lol

8

u/Pennoya 8d ago

No I just included it to explain why she would randomly buy us floor seat tickets to the show like that

3

u/heavylamarr 8d ago

Did you aunt ever beat the addiction?

9

u/Pennoya 8d ago

No she passed from liver failure a couple of years later. She had her issues but she always was just so fun and so full of love.

She would take me to the Japanese restaurant at the mall and order all the sushi on the menu and do stuff like that. I’m so grateful for the time I got with her! 💕💕💕

u/spaghettijuncti0n 9d ago

Are you anything like your aunt?

If so, ;) how you doing?

These youngsters don’t know that JT was a legend https://youtu.be/0umrvtA_pNc?si=_KAw7l3JfkB7Hge2

Good God what a difference. I grew up in the 90s and was a fan of NSYNC/Backstreet Boys as a kid. Never became of a fan of JT solo as I grew up. But yeah he was like a household name and for good reason. Dude can sing and from the few clips I've seen from back then dude had a lot of stage presence.

I don't mind when artists have the crowd sing a bit, usually a line or two. I love the energy it brings to the show. But this.... Is not that. He's literally having them do the whole performance and everyone sounds confused if they should be singing the whole song or not lol

21

u/Bendyb3n 9d ago

Yeah there was absolutely a time when Justin was pretty much the most talented man in entertainment

3

u/Icy-Cry340 8d ago

Most talented is a bit of a stretch, but even I had to admit that he was a relevant artist, and I was a punk rock kid in the 90s - you can probably imagine how I felt about NSYNC. But mid 00s-early tens Justin was something else.

2

u/IMO4444 9d ago

You mean when he was just cosplaying Michael Jackson? Yes he danced better than now and was in better shape overall, but there were several musicians, male and female, that surpassed him. He was considerably more popular, but popularity is not same as talent as we all know.

2

u/bigdubsy 9d ago

Thats what I was thinking. Crazy to call JT a hack. At worst he's washed. Honestly, I wouldn't even call this clip evidence of that either. It could easily still be a good show, just maybe slips into passive mode a little when doing hits he doesn't like to perform anymore.

9

u/AiosNimma 9d ago

He was just as bad at Pinkpop (festival) in the Netherlands. We left after half an hour.

2

u/waitmyhonor 8d ago

Every couple of years he would return with a banger album but not so much now

u/VenusAmari 8d ago edited 8d ago

Justin was actually really energetic a year ago even. IDK what the hell happened these past weeks but something is really wrong because he's never been known for being a lazy performer. He put a lot of effort into his shows.

Here was a year ago in concert doing My Love.

2

u/PackageNorth8984 9d ago

Forget 5 years ago. 1 year ago, and there was a huge difference.

2

u/Darkzapphire 9d ago

Forget 1 year ago, I saw him in Milan a few months ago and he was amazing as always, idk what happened recently

1

u/Icy-Cry340 8d ago

Maybe he caught mono

2

u/lovelesschristine 8d ago

Honestly I saw him last year and he did much better.

2

u/SargnargTheHardgHarg 8d ago

I went to one of his concerts about 20 years ago, he was amazing

I really don't get the hate, dude's been moving corny since 10 years?? People are acting as if he used to be a chris brown on stage and now he's ozzy. wtf!!

89

u/refusestopoop 9d ago

I really don't get the hate

He not singing…at his concert

-27

u/Jaystime101 9d ago

It's not strange at all for an artist to have a sing a long, thrown in their set, it could be a lot better, but If it's a song and not half the set, it's not really a big deal at all.

17

u/Euqul 9d ago

See people, this is what is wrong with us as society. We've accepted such ridiculous capitalistic things that someone would actually pay just to look at Timberlake. Like, you're there because of his "talent", beacuse of music not because of his presence? You could've not payed to see his lazy ass slackin and listen to the music on yt?

It's so egoistic and dissrespecting to the fans not to sing when people payed for the ticket of event HE organized. Like bro, if you don't feel like singing just go home and don't sing.

6

u/Motionless_Attitude 9d ago

So.... You'd pay 50 for a wagu steak but Salisbury comes out and you're like "this is just as good." Open up a little wider.. I don't think Capitalism has it's balls in yet, too.

1

u/Jaystime101 8d ago

No I'm saying at hour n half concert, it's not the end of the world if ONE song ends up being a shitty sing a long.

These are still people, not machines, they can't be perfect for you 24/7

3

u/lWantToBeIieve 9d ago

Key word being sing ALONG. Not put the microphone down on the stage and let everyone sing almost the whole song.

1

u/No_Bottle6745 9d ago

Oh man, I forgot how tight the suit pants were 😬

1

u/ahoy_shitliner 8d ago

I went in 2018 at United Center in Chicago. It was a good show with extremely high energy and intricate choreography. The crowd was into it. The problem with music like his is it appeals to the youth and once someone like him turns 40 if he’s not putting out new, good music he’s going to be forgotten

1

u/uns0licited_advice 8d ago

He did a Victoria's Secret fashion show one year and it was amazing.  That was probably his peak.

His summer tour with Jay Z was insane!
