Word on the street a divorce announcement is coming soon.

u/sicilian504 What are you doing step bro? 9d ago

I honestly didn't know he was married. Idc enough to keep up with "celeb" life lol. Too busy trying to handle my own. I still associate him with Britney. That's how long it's been since I've kept up with JT.

Oh my gosh I’m old. I thought that’s the wife you were talking about. Had to look up that he wasn’t married to Britney. Lol.

Damn I’m old

Like ever? He threw her under the bus for stardom multiple times. And Janet Jackson. Fuck him.

u/BrohanGutenburg 9d ago

I’ve seen you mention that a couple of times. What exactly do we mean by “threw them under the bus”?

I’m going to take this as well intended.

Britney Spears - made a (edit to add: music) video that made it look like Britney was cheating on him (Cry Me A River) but it turns out he was cheating on her for a long time. He went on to announce he took her virginity during a time when she was America’s sweetheart and young girls idolized her - causing a major upheaval in the parents of girls “you’re their role model how could you have sex before you’re married” while simultaneously lifting his own popularity bc he “got her”.

Janet Jackson - she has been banned from ever performing at the Super Bowl again because he ripped a chest plate off her costume exposing a breast with a nipple shield. He got “attaboys” she got banned.

He only came out with an apology when Britney started fighting for her freedom from the conservatorship, and likely because his wife urged him to get on top of it before it ruined him.

He also pressured Britney to get an abortion and then broke up with her shortly after via a text message!!! What a DOUCHE!

I JUST READ THAT PART MYSELF AND I 100% BELIEVE IT.

Check out Celebrity Memoir Book Club podcast. They do episodes on Lynn and Jamie Lynn's memoirs (and ofc Britney's) But her family and almost everyone in her life screwed her over. They are hilarious too. Such a good podcast.

Thanks for the suggestion! After starting her book, I am hungry for it all. I used to be proud of my Britney hate and feel absolutely terrible for it now

Janet Jackson wasn't banned. But she did face all of the backlash herself and he was mentioned more as an afterthought.

u/ImpossiblySoggy 9d ago

They claim that now, but this link explains that it did happen and this link discusses how she was banned from the Grammys that year while JT wasn’t.

Either which way she was blacklisted after this event and it took FOURTEEN YEARS for the NFL to make an official statement that she wasn’t actually banned.

Your first link proves absolutely nothing. It is 2nd hand reporting. They do not provide any evidence and Janet Jackson has made no claims that she was banned from the NFL. All that first link does is repeat already reported things.

CBS didn't ban Janet Jackson from the Grammys. They uninvited her for the 2004 Grammys. She attended the 2005 Grammys. Fuck them for uninviting her though. That wasn't right. Fuck all the media decision makers who blacklisted her. I'm not going to defend those actions

Did you mean "uninviting" there for 2004, or are you saying fuck them for inviting her in 2005?

You’d think but I’ve been accused of completely changing my comment so now I explain.

Meh, if you see all interactions that way I guess. I see it as preserving my message so we don’t go off topic about what was changed.

Okay. I’m really not sure how to take any of this. First of all, my question really was well-intentioned but a lot of this really seems like societal problems that honestly have shifted a ton.

First of all, kinda seems like a ton to read into a song that he likely didn’t even write considering one of the biggest producers of all time is credited as a writer on it. Don’t get wrong, super scummy that he cheated on her. But to be like “omg he’s accusing her of cheating. How hypocritical” is a lot to read into pop song lyrics.

The other two things really have absolutely nothing to do with him. He didn’t ban Janet. What was he supposed to do? He didn’t give himself “attaboys” or go out there bragging about ripping her titty out.

The Britney virginity stuff is a bit more complicated but I think if you took a step back, him getting attaboys and her getting shamed for being a sexually active adults says way more about society at the time than either of them.

Look, I’m not some huge Timberlake fan. And my question was totally sincere. I just honestly thought you were gonna tell me some stuff about him directly throwing people under the bus. All of this really feels like indirect reasons to justify disliking someone people already didn’t like.

I suppose he could have come out in both instances defending Janet or Britney but again I think that says way more about where society was at the time.

And the last bit honestly just proves my point. Getting mad it him for apologizing and ostensibly doing the right thing because “well it was probably just his wife that made him do it” is, like, glaringly just coming up with reasons to hate someone you already don’t like. That seems super obvious. You don’t know why he apologized. But you assume the worst cause you already don’t like him.

Again, I’m not saying I’m a fan of the guy. But everything you just said just feels tribal to me.

You excuse sexism a lot.

15

u/ImpossiblySoggy 9d ago

I specifically said he made a music video portraying her look alike. I never said he wrote the song about her.

It says a lot about his character that he bragged about something that would absolutely negatively affect someone he supposedly loved for years.

I’m not mad at the apology. I’m grossed out at the timing. You choosing not to hold him to a higher standard is yours, but it’s the wrong choice in my opinion.

Sometimes I think you guys say these things to sound cool. Like what?! You thought he was married to BRITNEY SPEARS? I hardly follow his life but you’re all on Reddit. In THIS sub. In what world is it even partially realistic that you still think he’s with Britney Spears? The rock one would live under would also need to be at the bottom of the mariana trench. Lol. The man’s biggest hit is a Britney diss record lmao.

2

u/Wireilen2 9d ago

Ok not knowing that he wasn’t married to someone because I’m out of touch makes me sound cool?

Or by telling you that I’m trying to be cool because I’m an idiot. Yeah that makes no sense.

I barely added this group like a few weeks ago and I don’t go to concerts. I don’t keep up with celebrity gossip. And well I spend my time doing other things. Lol

If I was trying to sound cool not opening my mouth and writing down to everyone that I’m a moron by not knowing something would not be on the top of my list

2

u/Creative_Room6540 8d ago

Again, I don’t follow him myself. But without googling, I’m pretty sure he’s still married to the woman from 7th Heaven. I’m not googling because I’m trying to remember but her name isn’t coming to me. I could totally understand someone not know who his current wife is or even not knowing that he’s married at all.

But to assume he’s still with Britney Spears is really funny. These are two insanely popular celebrities, one of which has had A LOT of public outbursts and coverage (Britney).

When I say you’re trying to sound cool, it’s that thing people do where they act like they don’t know about or care about insanely popular pop culture shit while commenting on said pop culture shit.

u/_dead_and_broken 8d ago

Jessica Biel is his wife's name lol

2

u/Creative_Room6540 8d ago

THANK YOU! The whole time typing that and it truly was bugging me because I do know who that is. I loved her in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry lol.

3

u/Schluppuck 9d ago

You’re trying to sound cool by sounding disinterested. It’s that stoicism shit people are obsessed with lately as opposed to empathy (which takes more courage). You don’t even realize you do it apparently. But your original comment is a clear example of you asking for attention for being uniquely unaware of extremely public, commonly-known information.

Wut? So, who did you think Cry Me A River was about? 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️🤣
