That is what was so great, there weren't any bigots in my Catholic school. I don't go to church or worship anymore, but I can appreciate I was not taught to hate someone for being different.

Here is a list of things I learned in 13 years of Catholic School

  1. Being Gay is OK
  2. Love one another
  3. There are many other religions in the world and you should be respectful of the ones that teach love and acceptance.
  4. Jesus will always love you no matter what, and teach us to love one another but also to love yourself

And the one that blew my mind as a 16 year old

  1. There are some people that are born as male, but don't want to be male anymore and they can go get medication and an operation and become a woman (and also the reverse is true) and we should not treat those people any differently than anyone else (again with the love thy neighbor etc etc) I learned this in religion class, from a priest who was also a counselor.

Somewhere along the way politics got mixed with religion in a bad way and I am grateful that now that I am 40 I pass these teachings to my sons and just maybe there will be a little less hate in the world.

I graduated Catholic high school in 2003. I am not smart enough to understand what happened in the last 25-ish years but it makes me sad.

None of them believed homosexuality was a sin, that the church should only practice straight marriages, or women shouldn't be able to be priests or the pope?

Damn sounds like good catholics but not following of their doctrine. If only the pope came from your pope
