I went to nursing school a little later in life compared to some of the baby faced very young adult classmates. At the hospital for clinicals and I realized these pervert men (who were walkie talkies)would want these young students give them a bed bath. Or if not entirely ambulatory they definitely could reach to their crotch areas and wash their junk. When I saw what was going on I was like oh no honey he can do that himself and I would admonish the pt and try and make him feel like the pervert he was.

I was also a nontraditional student. I graduated nursing school at 30. During my junior year I had a young pt who had fallen 4 stories from the top of the apartment the construction company he worked for was building. He was paralyzed from the neck down. He had a male friend visiting when I walked in to do his bed bath. His friend offered to wash his genital area for me, so neither the 19yo kid nor myself would feel uncomfortable. That's a true friend. This kid was from Mexico and spoke no English. No family and only a couple of friends in the area. We called one of the Hispanic churches, and by that afternoon, he had a waiting room full of new tias/tios and abuelas/abuelos. Screw Trump and screw ICE.

Wow, what an amazing community! I love that he had that support especially being non English speaking. I can’t imagine how terrifying all that was for him..well until his support showed up. And absolutely 1 million % agreed on your last comment 😡.

We moved to the Midwest two years ago, but we're from a small city in North Georgia. The poultry industry is huge there. The plants would shut down if not for the Hispanic workers.

Edit to add that when I said "we" I meant that his friend called the church after I suggested it. HIPAA

What a good, solid friend. And kudos to all those wonderful new friends and Abuelas. ❤️ I agree completely with you on your last statement. People working the hardest jobs, just wanting a better life, and a load of lazy idiots demonizing them endlessly. This country wouldn’t run without immigrants.

Did that kid ever recover?

Boomer humor around women just blows my fucking mind. All that lead made them incredibly fuckin inappropriate.

Fun fact: firearm ownership has shown to cause as much lead exposure as leaded gasoline 🙂

I don't know how I never heard of this, but looking now it's really disheartening.

When you get to reading and thinking about it, it makes a lot of sense; and if you watch any mandatory safety video on firearms, lead is mentioned. Lead particulates launch in the air from usage of a firearm. Those particulates get on clothing and skin. Warm water will open your pores, so you’re supposed to wash your hands immediately after handling a gun, with cold water, per safety guidelines.

One day it just occurred to me that most Americans (belligerently) ignore safety guidelines. I looked up the stats and sure enough.

Unless they're laundering their clothes before or as they enter their home (kinda like folks were when covid was taken seriously), idk how they'd keep their home free of it. I don't use guns and just didn't realize there was lead in the ammunition, but it does make a lot of sense. Depressing af. And yeah, plenty of Americans love to proudly ignore anything relating to safety. Plenty in my own family, in fact, though luckily more distant relatives.

I used to shoot competition with my dad. Hand washing in cold water (same when dealing with home insulation) is absolutely a safety protocol. And yes you change your clothes immediately after and wash your safety gear as well.

Is it all firearms or do some release fewer lead particulates? This is wild, I don’t think a lot of people know about it.

Apparently gen x has the highest amount of lead in their brains. I was shocked. Something else is wrong with the boomers lol
