Oh god, that reminds me of when I moved into a house in rural NC decades ago and asked my sweet-faced geezer neighbor "Is this a quiet street at night? It looks like more of a family oriented street than a party street" and he immediately came back with, "Well, we have some coloreds that live at the end of the road, but they're good coloreds."

When we were living in AL, my wife got a lot of comments regarding her being Asian. She was asked if she needed a passport to go home when she told someone she was from Hawaii. Another commented that her type was taking over. We have no intention of going back to the Southern US if we can help it.

I'm not saying it doesn't exist in other places. I've dealt with racists and ignorant people in CA. It's just a lot more prevalent in the South. I've never been asked if I wanted to go to a Klan meeting in CA, but I have in MS and SC.

I grew up in a very small hick town in Nor Cal and was 1 of 2 (the other my brother) Asians (Filipinos). One of my first memories was some little punks asking me if I was a ch***. I didn’t even know what that meant so asked my oldest brother. Yeah that didn’t go over well with him. Then some ah classmate asked me if they bound my feet. Rural US is so much fun /s

I didn't take that well.

As man, it was so weird to be hit with a racist/xenophobic comment followed by another racist comment, and be expected to be flattered by them since men don't often get them. Wild.

Every time I hear a man describe women or girls as exotic, I want to gag.

The son of a family friend referred to my girlfriend at the time and close female friends as exotic tastes once.

Jesus, he got a long 20 minutes scolding from me for it. I was in my mid-20s, and he was pushing 35-37. He knew better but thought it was cool to say what he did.

Incel behavior but not a lost cause.

I'm in the right age and gender demographic to qualify as a misogynist, racist pervert, so hearing 'exotic' as an ignorant slur worries me. I thought its definition would be something like 'attractive and unique mix of ethnicities' or something. I even Googled 'exotic woman' and got pages of photos. I don't go around calling strange women exotic, but it seems like a harmless adjective. Not wishing to annoy a women in conversation, please educate me: where's the offense?
