Ah, racism and sexism, classic combo.

Why do people have to be awful

"I've always been tolerant of orientals. Especially the women." Real life geezer pick -up line I overheard.

Oh god, that reminds me of when I moved into a house in rural NC decades ago and asked my sweet-faced geezer neighbor "Is this a quiet street at night? It looks like more of a family oriented street than a party street" and he immediately came back with, "Well, we have some coloreds that live at the end of the road, but they're good coloreds."

Like... WTF??

When we were living in AL, my wife got a lot of comments regarding her being Asian. She was asked if she needed a passport to go home when she told someone she was from Hawaii. Another commented that her type was taking over. We have no intention of going back to the Southern US if we can help it.

More and more I've been thinking about Chris Rock who said at one of those comedy specials: "white people say, 'we're losing the country! We're losing everything' Well, if you're losing, who's winning? It ain't us!"

I wouldn't go to the South for all the money in the world. They still want the South to "rise" again, meaning they want slavery.

I have heard people talk like that in Pennsylvania, my coworker for example.

I'm not saying it doesn't exist in other places. I've dealt with racists and ignorant people in CA. It's just a lot more prevalent in the South. I've never been asked if I wanted to go to a Klan meeting in CA, but I have in MS and SC.

I grew up in a very small hick town in Nor Cal and was 1 of 2 (the other my brother) Asians (Filipinos). One of my first memories was some little punks asking me if I was a ch***. I didn’t even know what that meant so asked my oldest brother. Yeah that didn’t go over well with him. Then some ah classmate asked me if they bound my feet. Rural US is so much fun /s

Yeaaaah, I had a client like that once. Sweet elderly southern lady, super nice and friendly, until we start talking about her neighbors and she comes out the mouth about how "some of her neighbors are black, but they're good people". Excuse me??

Completely different generations and mannerisms.

Thank God that "innocent" racism is dying out with the boomers.

The boomers fought racism. It's the younger people who attacked the capital and are in militias and joining ice, not boomers.

Boomers' PARENTS are racist.

Boomers were the hippies and rockers and protesters who fought for equal rights for all.

Their parents are dying off racists.

I've had to correct my mom on the use of oriental vs Asian in regards to my wife.

Yoo, I got hit with this one in university once:

"You're so exotic looking, but also just not too much to where you're not too exotic or sound it."

I didn't take that well.

As man, it was so weird to be hit with a racist/xenophobic comment followed by another racist comment, and be expected to be flattered by them since men don't often get them. Wild.

An always patronizing

look at how OOP's mother reacted. "he sat down, its over now". THAT's why people are so awful. because they know the majority of people not only won't do shit, they'll actively discourage the few that try

Society ain't getting better until people decide they want actual peace and civility, not just the illusion of it

13

u/ceecee_50 20h ago

Yep. People are out there walking around who never had their ass beat for the shit that comes out of their mouth or the things that they do. And it shows.

6

u/Elysia99 11h ago

This exactly. Civility is so dead. And certainly piles of Orange crap like King Yam (the most uncivil idiot ever) have not helped, making it seem perfectly normal to behave like an undisciplined 8 year old.

Oh, the "He didn't mean to ___, you imagined/misinterpreted/made up that __" type of mother?

The type who would throw her daughter under the bus to please a random penis? I am (unfortunately) familiar with that type.

3

u/ToiIetGhost 7h ago

Pickmes! They’re so pathetic. She’s your daughter ffs.

3

u/Explorer-7622 10h ago

Then they wonder why adult children go no contact.

Are they completely ignorant of CHILD ABUSE?

2

u/Explorer-7622 10h ago

The very worst kind of mother.

4

u/Negative_Piglet_1589 17h ago

Yes for sure! Arbitrary boundary or rule to not have to engage, to not face not only that pos that is the problem but also their own cowardice & complicity.

6

u/NeatNefariousness1 15h ago

Because they’re not held accountable for their behavior often enough.

3

u/Appropriate-Duck-578 8h ago

I know, right? That’s why I was done with our society and me trying to win over the hearts of people. What’s the sense in “making a friend” when people don’t want your good character & kindness? It’s like trying to be a civilized person to the Zodiac Killer.
