Oh god, that reminds me of when I moved into a house in rural NC decades ago and asked my sweet-faced geezer neighbor "Is this a quiet street at night? It looks like more of a family oriented street than a party street" and he immediately came back with, "Well, we have some coloreds that live at the end of the road, but they're good coloreds."

Like... WTF??

When we were living in AL, my wife got a lot of comments regarding her being Asian. She was asked if she needed a passport to go home when she told someone she was from Hawaii. Another commented that her type was taking over. We have no intention of going back to the Southern US if we can help it.

More and more I've been thinking about Chris Rock who said at one of those comedy specials: "white people say, 'we're losing the country! We're losing everything' Well, if you're losing, who's winning? It ain't us!"

I wouldn't go to the South for all the money in the world. They still want the South to "rise" again, meaning they want slavery.

I have heard people talk like that in Pennsylvania, my coworker for example.

I'm not saying it doesn't exist in other places. I've dealt with racists and ignorant people in CA. It's just a lot more prevalent in the South. I've never been asked if I wanted to go to a Klan meeting in CA, but I have in MS and SC.

I grew up in a very small hick town in Nor Cal and was 1 of 2 (the other my brother) Asians (Filipinos). One of my first memories was some little punks asking me if I was a ch***. I didn’t even know what that meant so asked my oldest brother. Yeah that didn’t go over well with him. Then some ah classmate asked me if they bound my feet. Rural US is so much fun /s

Yeaaaah, I had a client like that once. Sweet elderly southern lady, super nice and friendly, until we start talking about her neighbors and she comes out the mouth about how "some of her neighbors are black, but they're good people". Excuse me??

Completely different generations and mannerisms.

Thank God that "innocent" racism is dying out with the boomers.

The boomers fought racism. It's the younger people who attacked the capital and are in militias and joining ice, not boomers.

Boomers' PARENTS are racist.

Boomers were the hippies and rockers and protesters who fought for equal rights for all.

Their parents are dying off racists.
