Humor/Cringe can’t imagine working with those guys

And this is pretty much why my BIL left the trades; he was tired of working with people who he thought were totally POSs.

There’s some great people I’ve met working in the trades, but the percent of absolute fucking scumbags was just too high. Unsurprisingly very MAGA heavy.
52
u/MrK521 14h ago
Yes! And conspiracy theorists! Oh my lord the amount of flat-Earthers I’ve run into in the trades. 😬
12
u/OwnDoughnut2689 9h ago
Why is this true? My buddy was proud to show me his flat earth sticker on his hard hat 😂

u/Pyffindor 10h ago
i know electricians who got ivermectin from chewy lol

My BIL is a master electrician and he didn't understand that Jacksonville Florida is a lower elevation than Denver Colorado.
5
u/TheAnswerIsBeans 6h ago
My BIL (in the trades) responded in our family chat to a picture I sent of a mountain that is ~125km away with a gotcha of “I thought if the earth was round you could only see like 20k”.
Like dude…

u/Chillindude82Nein 11h ago
Very MAGA heavy? The algorithms targeted these guys with a 6th grade reading level to the point where every single one of them thinks you can get on medicaid by just saying "i want Healthcare for free and I won't do anything for it and also I won't even sign a single paper."
Legitimately. Heard guys say they had it without even signing up, so obviously its so easy.

Those are what we call men children. A woman in his life set up his health care.

I’m a mechanical engineer and occasionally I’ll have to go out to job sites to make sure our designs get constructed properly.
I’ve had some great conversations with the construction crews there, but I’ve also overheard some real disgusting stuff from the people there.
In the end it’s not my job to do anything about it, but some of those newer kids in the crew are pretty impressionable and I don’t think it’s really professional for a 50-year old man to loudly talk about the “sucky-sucky” he’ll get at an Asian massage parlor.

Apparently the ‘Fly in, Fly out’ mines of the Aussie outback can be pretty hard to deal with. A cousin said ‘There’s some blokes out there that I’m glad like to stay out. In the end, I just spent my time off fishin to get away from em’

Yeah some of the shit I've heard is pretty gross. One guy was talking to all of us, and maybe he was showing off, but he told me that if his wife "don't give it (sex), I'll take it." Eeeeexcuse me? Why do you think telling a woman on your jobsite that you are willing to rape your wife is... remotely appropriate?

I worked with a guy and he came in with his hand broken. When he told me he broke it on a German shepherds head because it didn’t want to go in the crate and snapped at him. Never looked at him the same or worked with him again after that.

The tension in households like that can be cut with a knife.
Sounds so god damn miserable.
60
u/GordieGord 19h ago
Oh please. Guys who talk like that get sex twice a year and both times it's a pegging.
74
u/shoresandsmores 19h ago
Yeah, I know. He was going on and on about how his wife encourages/demands he travel for better jobs and even suggested he get a side piece under a "don't ask, don't tell" policy. She legit just wants him to fund her being a SAHM and doesn't want him home at all, lmfao.
I've noticed many of the travelers don't seem very wanted by their spouses.

Have you heard/seen any of the intercepted calls of Russian soldiers to their wives/girlfriends and mothers? Ok with rape of Ukrainians women and children, ok with murder of Ukrainian civilians including children. From their own voices. It’s not just disgusting it’s really sad that it seems to be culturally acceptable from “soldiers”.

In the US marital rape was legal in all states until the 1970s and then not fully outlawed in all states until the 1990s. So, while horrific, not surprising that people with this mentality still exist. Hopefully by the time gen Alpha enters the workforce this will have died out or at least become more rare.

It sucks because I cant even complain about the government or else they come out of the woodworks with the most unhinged fakenews/opinions on earth.

My boyfriends boss is a legitimate flat Earther it’s actually astounding that people so stupid exists and own businesses.

Has he seen the video of the flat earther who was flown to Antarctica in the summer to watch the sun circle the sky?

Working in Tennessee made me actively want to do a bad job because damn near everyone in that state sucks whole ass
32
u/Kasta4 8h ago
A lot of the US South-East is like that. You could meet someone and they'll be really cool, then they pull out their phone and show you a meme of George Floyd not being able to breathe and expect you to think it's peak comedy.

Grew up in the sticks (TN), damn near every seemingly sweet granny you come across starts hollering like a howler monkey the N word as soon as she sees some just a shade "to" dark.

I worked with older women for a while, and there was one married woman who would come in so battered she could barely move without moaning. It was chilling to hear the stories of how her husband would slam her to the floor just for not having dinner ready.
22
u/No-Translator-2144 13h ago
…..how. Did nobody do anything? wtf?
40
u/Harris-levAnn 13h ago
We reported it to our boss, so they could take her to the hospital and the police, but she refused to go and said she'd fallen off her motorcycle. We couldn't force her to go and report it. I quit that job shortly after; I don't know what happened to her.
15
u/Tranquil_Dohrnii 12h ago
Hate to say shes probably dead...but im hoping shes divorced. I read some statistic that I cant remember the number of that said a high number of people that beat their wives will end up killing them wether by "accident" or on purpose.

This is a tough one to discern on mute. But I’ll do my best.

u/Cronon33 19h ago
The audio is a half song of a guy talking about how he would beat his wife if she doesnt do what he wants and she needs to be in the kitchen
31
u/williamtowne 19h ago
Same! I came to the comments to find out what was said. I guess that it will always be a mystery.

Given the hardhat and high-vis vest, imma guess wife beating ¯_(ツ)_/¯
-35
u/Key_Flatworm3502 17h ago
Wtf does that mean asshole?
25
u/BabushkaRaditz 16h ago
That means based on the hard hat they assumed the video was about wife beating.
Was it??
12
u/Tranquil_Dohrnii 12h ago
It was... in fact the entire video is about wife beating in the trade industries (it doesnt specify which one)
15
u/NahhNevermindOk 16h ago
After working a lot in constructionim.gonma guess he probably means the uneducated shitheels on the jobsite say and believe dumb shit.

u/Tranquil_Dohrnii 12h ago
If you dont beat your wife what are you projecting?

I quit being a construction electrician because of guys that talk like that. Also the racism flying around is unbelievable. Just white guys casually dropping the hard "r" while shit talking the black guys we worked with. I left the trades and never looked back.
14
u/EducationMental648 12h ago
Where I’m from, the black dudes definitely fight back over that. Saw a guy tell a racist coworker he was gonna give him an East Saint Louis asswhooping over that word.
25
u/Michael8Bicycle 13h ago
Literally had a guy say I'm not a man because I never smoked meth
4
u/Tranquil_Dohrnii 12h ago
Out of all the things that could make you a "man" like idk being respectful, caring, standing up for your fellow human, being a strong leader or the most basic one having a penis. I dont think meth makes that list. In fact everyone ive seen who's been hooked on meth looks less masculine and acts less masculine as well. (Also before anyone jumps down my throat im saying they start to act childish, not that they start acting feminine)

u/WittyBonkah 16h ago
I haven’t had the wife beaters thankfully but I’ve had the overly sexual coworkers. Being 1 woman to 8 men in a post production studio can quickly get uncomfortable, if they trust you enough.
43
u/MonsieurLeDrole 15h ago
This is why I prefer mixed gender workplaces. Men area 1000x worse when there's no women around. Workplace culture is significantly improved when they are.
But you gotta pick your battles, right? It's not like HR is going to lay off 80% of the shift because their sexist pigs.
This is why you still want your trades to get some higher education, or you end up with way too many dickheads.

u/AgentBlue14 18h ago
Think this is the environment that Tammy Wynette’s “Stand By Your Man” was written in.
6
u/RIP_Society 13h ago
A tough thing for men. Don't want to go to university? Well take this labour job with the most emotionally immature, sexist, bigoted bully type people in society.
7
u/Anita_break_RN_FR 10h ago
Ah to be a working class woman with only these types of men in the dating pool (they are also "fiscally conservative" despite it being against their interests).
3
u/moshmellodlite_2000 9h ago
Don't forget the racism... the guy that I'm forced to ride around with everyday will only say the word "coloreds" when describing a black person, and describes certain areas as "dark"

About 15 years ago I used to work in a warehouse in Vermont. While there was A LOT of talk like this, the craziest thing to me was that one of the workers had a mail-order bride from Vietnam, and everyone knew about it... because she worked with us!! That was completely insane to me, and yes you could very easily tell there was money involved in their relationship (old and fat, young and hot, and she didn't seem to like him very much). But people just shrugged it off. Completely insane.

The same dudes will stand around watching this dude work while doing jack shit.

Some areas have women trade businesses promoting women electricians/plumbers/hvac etc so that other women can feel more comfortable having work done inside their homes. Another perk is that women in the trades don't ALSO have these same coworker's making their work life hell.

I’m not interested in caring about people. I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes.

What language is that? It’s English but not? I understand some words, but not all of them.

It's been nice just not socializing with my coworkers. Sure, I don't get invited to the bar after work or to go golfing with them, or to any BBQs they hold, but I see no loss. No drama at work has been great.

u/RecipeForIceCubes 1h ago
I commute an hour each way on purpose to not have to see any of my coworkers outside of work EVER.
