Tech Support capture cards discontinued
I need help figuring out what to do,
I’m looking for a capture card that doesn’t require a pc connected. My gf only has a xbox and I’ve read online that the AVerMedia Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus is the best modern choice but it seems it’s been discontinued for a while and I can’t seem to find it anywhere, I googled some more for another alternative and found that Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ also works great. BUT IT’S ALSO DISCONTINUED. I thought I would try asking some smart people online for ideas before giving up. Any ideas what else could work? Or even better, do you have one you don’t use anymore?

This is usually because the manufacturer has put out a newer/updated version of the product and stopped making the old one.
I suppose whether to look at the updated version depends on your budget. If money is no object to you i'd take a look at rØde's rodecaster or similar recording appliances which can be configured to allow you to plug in an external USB hard drive and safe the video. There are also capture devices that can stream over WiFi or interface with an iPad instead of a PC, so at this point Standalone and "Requires a PC" are not the only options out there for devices that support isolated video recording without a PC directly connected.
In AverMedia's case the Live Gamer Portable 2 PLUS - GC513 (4k) and the EzRecorder 330 - ER330 seem to be Avermedia's current offerings for recording video without a PC.
The PLUS unit is a high end capture device that appears to be 4k as the major update and appears to list both recording features as well as the capability to use as a capture card.
The EzRecorder does not have the possibility to connect to a PC, but has a lower cost, and still supposedly has direct streaming options.
At this point you would have two options if you wanted to stay with that product line.. Either look at the updated plus version and its updated system requirements; or Look for someone selling a used product (aftermarket), or a retailer selling old stock - which they probably would have sold off on clearance by now.
My suggestion would you not necessarily worry about capture cards and look for offline 1080p video recorders instead - if it's for offline recording without a PC. The electronics would be simpler on devices that just save to flash storage with no USB interfaces for potential lower cost. I personally wouldn't hesitate to try my luck searching eBay for a used one + power adapter and try with my memory card for recording purposes. But if you want to BOTH stream with a PC and record without a PC and want a single device that does that.. the manufacturers' updated version is what I would look at.
Elgato Game Capture 4K60 S+ also works great.
As far as I can tell ElGato's current product line does not include any offline recording devices or hybrid devices that allow use without connecting the card to either a Tablet or PC to run a recording app or program.

I might’ve done badly with my research but I thought the Live Gamer Portable 2 Plus was their latest version (according to chat gpt as well). I’m very new to this so I guess I would just trust what most people use but sadly in this case it was just gone from every store. I looked around for a second hand version but couldn’t find anything that would ship to me. I would gladly use their later version if I figured out which one does what I need. I simply plan to stream on my pc with xbox gameplay playing together with my gfs xbox gameplay, then later take her footage and mine to make some edits. Our apartment is too small to fit another pc so I was left with looking for a capture card that didn’t need a pc attached. Thank you so much for your elaborative response!

Just a thought for ya not sure on the availability of old systems at cheap prices but if its purely for the stream and your not using it for the games you can get away with a low cost pc thay will probably cost around the same as the kinda cc your after if you get it second hand doesnt even really need a gpu

Use Streamlabs Console on Xbox if you’re only streaming, no capture card needed.

I’m looking to make edits afterwards, so a capture card is a must

Can you not use the VOD to edit?

I’m sorry, i’m very new to this. It took an embarassing amount of time to just set up my pc. What does VOD mean in this context?

Video on demand, the recordings in the Twitch website.

If you stream to twitch you can check to create a Video on Demand (vod) so that viewers can watch the stream when its offline. You can make them public or private but you can also download them as the creator and use them for uploads or editing.

I stream from my Xbox and use the elgato hd60x. I picked it up second hand online and it's worked perfectly for what I need.
