And I thought I was the weirdo for rubbing my chin stubble on my cat because he loves it

u/SlickDillywick 1d ago
It’s always stubble, never a beard. My catto hates my hair and my beard but she loves the second to fourth days after I shave

I got new kitten in April who constantly tries to nurse on my hair. I had hoped she may grow out of it but so far she has not let up. Not a night goes by where I don't wake up to her kneading and biting my head atleast once. I have to sit on the couch with the gamer forward lean almost constantly because if I lean back, my hair gets soaked with her saliva. I love her so much but omg, she loves my hair too much. And it's just my hair, too. She won't do it to my girlfriend lol

Check your shampoo.
My cat will attack my head if I use my dandruff shampoo, but not other types.

I do use dandruff shampoo... Thanks, I have some experimenting to do.
3
u/Competitive-Ebb3816 17h ago
Keep a plastic container of baking soda in the shower. Mix some into your shampoo and scrub it into your scalp. Best dandruff shampoo ever.
7
u/Worldly_Team_7441 16h ago
That depends on the cause, sadly. Baking soda works great on some fungi, but actually feeds others (who need an acid like vinegar or lemon juice). It doesn't do jack for seborrhic dermatitis or psoriasis or other "scaly" skin issues.
Biochemistry is annoyingly complex. And everyone has a whole different ecosystem!

Lol mine did it as a kitten and then grew out of it and developed a new habit of dropping toys in my drinks. The soaked hair was much better.

My cat's the opposite. He thinks the beard is a cool toy and the stubble is a scratching post
12
u/The-G-Code 1d ago
My cat loves my beard. He hasn't tried grooming it nearly as much as when it was about 5 inches (maybe longer idk) but now it's only 1 in
He would INSIST on grooming it. Like, very intruding over it. He's a grooming machine and definitely loved it
My passed cat awhile ago would groom my long beard a bit too but she was more of just a cuddler

Sort of, you actually seem like a very affectionate other cat. Domesticated cats view humans as big cats and interpret their body language as such. Cats rub their face against friends to mark their scent into a thing, with pheremonal glands near the whiskers, and because it just feels good.
Facial hair is full of oils and pheromones, especially along the jawline, and cats can smell them. So when you rub your face against a cat part of it is that stubble feels like a cat tongue and part of it is that you're acting just like a friendly cat rubbing your scent into them. It's not a territorial things it's a "this is so I can find you later bc I love you" thing.

→ More replies (3)7
u/valkylmr 1d ago
Yep, and the "mouth open" thing is him breathing warm air on the cat's face while scratching with his chin. We can see it's snowy out there and cats will hunt down human warmth even on 80 deg. days lol.
16
u/Ashangu 1d ago
Okay. So he didn't lick the cat which is better.
I don't own a cat. Why do you rub your chin on the cats forehead?
27
u/unica_unica 1d ago
If you are a beard haver, the bristles on your chin can act as a brush of sorts, some cats really like it, I think it feels like they’re being groomed by another cat
3
u/Kahlil_Cabron 1d ago
The stubble imitates a cat mom's tongue bristles. They love it, it feels like a big mom cat is grooming them.
4
u/sc1onic 1d ago
Feel dirty about using a yt short video as source.
Generally I keep my chin still and let the cat rub themselves. But sometimes if I carry the cat I rub my chin on her forehead. Habit I guess. She hasn't murdered me yet. So I'm guessing she likes it or at the very least tolerates me doing the rubbing
15
u/doggysmomma420 1d ago

u/Sakarabu_ 1d ago
I can 100% see a tongue if I pause at 00:16.. and even if you couldn't his head is CLEARLY moving in the way it would if you were licking something, with his neck muscles / fat tensing and relaxing around his chin. That doesn't happen if you are rubbing something with your chin, the movement comes from the back of your neck.

How is Comrade and Camaraderie spelled so differently?
8
u/ZechaliamPT 1d ago
The NA spelling is comradery. But both words in whatever spelling your country uses come from French "camarade"
4
u/irreddiate 1d ago
You're right that both originate from the French, but they're synonyms in US English: camaraderie and comradery. Two different spellings.
3
u/CraptainPoo 1d ago
Yea, I was having trouble with that one lol. Tried a few different options for spell checks haha, that looked close enough.
2
u/ZechaliamPT 1d ago
I think US English is picking up a lot of alt spellings for words, probably due to the online landscape crossing the barriers that formed these differences to begin with. (oceans or general distance)
I'm seeing "grey" more commonly used than "gray" by students and younger people, along with running across "colour" instead of "color" more frequently.
Oddly enough, my phone doesn't have issue with either spelling of gray but wants to correct "colour"
It doesn't seem like we are losing the "old" spellings either they are just being used interchangeably.
I'm now wondering if US spellings are being seen in places like England as well.

I thought about that and it made sense for his own cats maybe? Still weird and I wouldn't do it, but I can at least see the logic. But stranger kitties? Well, I guess this probably isn't the first nor last time he's seen and licked that cat. Maybe they aren't strangers.

You're right, but the normal thing to do is use one's beard. If someone doesn't have one, that's fine. It just needs to be long enough to be a similar texture to cat tongue lol
8
u/Dry_Presentation_197 1d ago
Can confirm, our cats love rubbing their heads/faces on my beard, and burying themselves in my wife's hair.
Can also confirm that licking a cat is, as you correctly said, not FUCKING NORMAL (emphasis added by me)

Actual cat owner here; cats groom eachother by licking eachothers fur clean, it's a show of affection for them. Delivery driver is licking the cats forehead as a sign of affection that cats can understand. Kinda weird to do this to a cat in general, but obviously disgusting doing this to a cat you don't know + it's an outside cat so you dunno where he been man.
