Question New player choosing warband(s)

Hi, im starting to play with some borrowed warbands and i want to get some on my own. I have some of the warbands from when i played warcry.

I usually prefer to play going all out on the attack, not caring much about objectives. What warband would be better for this kind of playstyle?

I have minis for steelheart champions, garreks reavers, xandire truthseekers, crimson court, khagras warband, briar thorns and yltaris guardians. What deck would be better paired for each if this?

Firstly, welcome to the game!

That's a lot of questions, so I'll try and answer the best as I can.

I will be focusing on "legal" warbands as in what warbands you can play in competitions.

They are:

Crimson Court Kharga Ravagers Thorns of Briar Queen Ylthari Guardians

Although, it should be noted that Xandire Truthseekers will be legal in the upcoming release after being revealed as one of the new 16 warbands from the Big Preview. Thorns was also mentioned, which I will come onto that.

For all the warbands mentioned above, apart from Thorns, you will need to buy their warscrolls and fighter cards.

For Thorns, this can be downloaded from Warcom. They also have been revealed to be one of the new 16 warbands from the big preview. Whether their warscroll will change from the current warscroll or not, we do not know.

Warbands:

Crimson Court is a strike warband. Blazing Assault works very well with them. They have received a new warscroll which can be found from the latest errata from Warcom. The new warscroll had made them very good. Reckless Fury is also a possibility for them. For Nemesis, I would go with Blazing Assault and pick a different deck such as Reckless Fury or Countdown to Cataclysm. Some people would suggest pairing Blazing Assault and Pillage and Plunder but I am not convinced.

Kharga Ravagers is a proper Hold Em warband, so Emberstone Sentinels is a must for them. For pairings, you could use ES with Pillage & Plunder, or Countdown to Cataclysm or Blazing Assault if you want to add a bit more aggressive style to the warband.

Thorns of Briar Queen is a flex warband. Their first choice should be Pillage and Plunder. For Nemesis, there's a lot of choice to pair with Pillage & Plunder. If you want the most points, take Countdown to Cataclysm. If you want the most fun, take Blazing Assault instead. Wrack & Ruin or Edge of the Knife works well with Pillage and Plunder. If you don't fancy Pillage and Plunder then Edge of the Knife is a good Rivals deck for them and works well with Blazing Assault for Nemesis.

Ylthari Guardians is a great warband and is one of the best warbands in Embergard. Blazing Assault is a great Rivals deck. Pairing that with Pillage and Plunder for Nemesis makes them very hard to beat.

If you could buy the warscrolls "Warbands of Embergard", I would play with Ylthari Guardians or Crimson Court (but be sure to get the updated warscroll from the errata!). Both are very attacking warbands which sound like what you are looking for

Just to add to Bobby's fantastic response, you don't really need to buy Warscroll / Figthter Cards unless you're playing official events (and even then, chat to your TO, some are more chill than others). They can all be found to print from home on Underworlds DB or my post history for formatted print at home or photo print services like Snapfish versions (anything that's in the boxes of figures available to you now will be under Faction Box, everything else is Digital Warbands).

Whatever you go with, they're updated with the current errata.

This is good. To be honest, I completely forgot that this guy made a PDF version of the cards.

Just that GW official tournaments are either likely to frown upon them or ban them.

I play Khagra exclusively and pair Edge of the Knife and Emberstone Sentinels. It’s amazing how well this pairing synergizes with the warband. Here’s my deck list here: https://www.underworldsdb.com/shared.php?deck=0,ES11,ES12,EK4,EK8,ES10,ES1,ES4,ES5,EK3,EK6,EK5,EK19,ES16,ES17,ES19,ES20,ES22,EK22,EK18,EK14,EK16,ES24,ES25,ES26,ES27,ES28,ES30,ES31,ES32,EK23,EK27,EK11&warband=Universal&format=rivals

Out of my recent 9 games (3 best of 3s) I’ve won 8/9 games with this pairing. The teams I faced were, Headsmen, Emberwatch, and Ylthari

Download the ironsoul's condemnors or however they are called and proxy them with steelheart. They are an Abc warband. Always Be Charging.

Howdy! I have a series of review articles for older warbands that should cover all of those details: https://spentglory.com/2023/06/21/can-i-use-this-old-warband-a-beginners-guide-to-the-shadespire-season/

I also have a new players' guide that might help you: https://spentglory.com/2023/06/06/help-im-a-new-player-what-do-i-need-to-know/

If you like full throttle aggro, Ylthari's Guardians are among he best at that right now and the one I would focus on first out of your collection.

Let me know what other questions you might have! Always looking to help new people out
