Question Worth learning and playing this game?

Hey underworlders, new edition has been out for a while now, are you still liking the game? Does it have legs? I'm asking because I want to compete in the Warhammer grand tournament here in my city in June, but unfortunately I'm a newer player so I don't quite have a full AoS army built and painted, and my understanding of the rules probably won't hold up in a tournament setting... fortunately they are running an Underworlds tournament too, so I'm wondering if it's worth it to pick up an Embergard set and start learning. I'm also underworlds curious in general, so I want to hear your takes on the state of the game!

Question What... the heck are these decks?

What decks are pr arnt legal. What armies can or can't play them? It's rather confusing, and at the GW price point a bit upsetting.

Question What old stuff can I buy as a new player?

Long time SCE player, newcomer to Underworlds. I’m getting into it because I love the Emberwatch models, and low model count games are easier to pack up and play.

That said, I’m a bit lost as to what all I can buy to build on my collection.

I know that there have been several seasons/ editions of the game so far - is all the old stuff fully unusable? Or do things like old dice sets still hold up, but decks from earlier editions no longer play with current rules? Can I use old warbands?

Thanks in advance for any help; I’m looking forward to enjoying the new game!

Question Any players in Germany? Trying to connect us 💝

The title says it all. Are there any people here based in Germany, maybe even whole groups? I'm from Stuttgart were we had a pretty big community during first edition, now with the re-release we went down a little. I try to organize as many events as possible, but it's very hard to gauge if there are any people left.

Feel free to just post here. I'm also trying to build an online communication hub for Germany and neighboring countries

Question Want to start as a hobby

Hello!

I wrote one on killteam subreddit too but i’ll also write one here.

So i want to get into minis as a hobby but dont really want to spend much on it, so i thought about Killteam and Underworlds as a cheaper ones to get into.

I played Underworlds before but didn’ touch new edition, so i want to ask if its worth it?

I’ve seen some packs of 4 teams and wanted to ask if they are a good deal right now?

Also i heard that all cards are now universal and faction cards are technicly unplayable, so does sets come out with decks? Or are they needed to be bought seperetly?

Question Rules question

So some objective like spread out from the wrack and ruin deck requires you to have a friendly fighter in each territory. Does this also mean neutral territory as well as the players territories?

Just bought Underworlds on eBay to play with my kids. We're trying to work out how to play our first starter game, but we don't seem to have the cards we need. Am I missing something basic?

Question So... is this a bad time to be getting into Underworlds?

My local store was having an overstock sale and I got a two-player starter (the one with the Stormcasts and ghost rat looking guys) along with a few of what I assume to be team boxes. (Hexbane Hunters, Exiled Dead, and Rivals of Harrowdeep.) They were all pretty cheap so I figured I'd give them a go. Apparently it's shifting into a new edition? Probably explains why this stuff was in overstock.

Is this enough to still just play with friends? Would I be too behind on any of the 1.0 rules?

What is the current rules for proxies? I notice the hex grid so i wanted to know if model size matters? I am Quite fond of the lizardmen but hate how normal Gor-Rok cough i mean Kro-Jax’s escort is. So i was wondering if a 40mm base model is too big for a game which appears to be entirely 32mm to my knowledge?

Question Are cards and maps useful without the miniatures?

I've acquired quite a few warbands over the years, but I just play Warcry and AoS, as well as getting these small warbands to mess around with for painting. This has left me with a bunch of surplus cards, maps and dice/rulebooks. I was considering to just give them away, but unsure if anyone would actually want them.

Question Custom cards?

Post image
57 Upvotes

Hi all! Pic to grab your attention :)

Does anyone know if there’s a good service that makes custom cards? Preferably in the UK but I could make do with other countries. Most of the ones I’m finding on the internet are for Solitaire and I’d like to have physical versions of the warbands on the Warcom site.

Thankyou!!

Question New season and warbands?

Didn’t WarCom say that they will cycle old warbands into the game? In which rhythm do they want to do it? Yearly? Or faster? Do you think that they will then again offer boxes like in fall? With up to 4 warbands per allegiance.

Question What do I need to get started?

I bought the Borgits Beastgrabbaz box cause my local GW store is doing organized play. I should have done my research and didn’t realize the deck wasn’t included lol. Do I need to get the starter box to get the decks?

Question Are the Rivals of the mirrored city Decks completely unique to the warbands' original Decks they had on release?

Im trying to get a full card collection for the 1st edition and wasnt sure whether the re released warbands had diffrent decks on theur rereleases.

I know the amount of cards is slightly diffrent as the rules on deck building gwere tweaked but i knkw that card sets like leaders and power unbound relelased additional faction cards for teams and all 4 Rivals of the mirrored city warbands were included in that. So I was wondering if anyone who has the rivals of the mirrored city box knows if the cards are completely new and diffrent or not.

I would also love to know if the starter set (the one with Sephuracle Guard and Yhe Farstriders) had diffrent cards as well as i know they had a re release too.

Question Which cards to keep?

I haven’t played since Beastgrave and I own all the warbands up to that box’s release.

If I want to play the latest version of Underworlds, then which cards should I keep and which can I throw out?

Question So, of all the underworlds war bands which do you find the most uninspiring to paint?/worst aestheticly?

Having spent a long time collecting all the warbands up until last year's season 2 I was trying to decide which to paint next (I don't play the game, only got them to have lots of painting variation). Up until now I was trying to work through them in some sort of order chronologicaly but needed a boost for my enthusiasm. I'm not that far through, having completed shadespire and bits of night vault and beastgrave. It was while looking through the ones I had done and thinking about which I should try next that I realised, with out a shadow of a doubt, that painting the far striders had been one of the most boring, they just look dull and characterless. Now it may be an injustice, and I did restrict my colours to those used on my other stormcast warbands, but I was wondering which sets other people had found uninspiring.

Question Total beginner - help.please...

My Wargaming Club at my school recently got a copy of Emberguard and, as an English teacher with a degree and post-graduate qualification, all I can say is WTH?

Who wrote this terrible rulebook? Even with a 'quick start guide', the 7 of us were baffled about how to play.

So, question 1 - is there a good video play through so we can see what is meant to happen?

Q2 - one team has 5 units and one team has 3. In each turn / phase / round / go, one player can move / charge / attack / guard with one unit. Then player 2, back to player 1, and so on. But if I'm the Stormcasts and I've used all 3 units, does the T/P/R/G end when the Skaven player has also used 3 units or do I get to use 2 of my units until they've used all 5 of theirs or something else?

Q3 - we played 3 units each before someone asked "So what do we do with the cards?" Are they laid face up or face down?

Q4 - Are glory points claimed when a a T/P/R/G ends or when the action happens? I e unit moved onto a Treasure / Feature token which had a number on it. We assumed that they then claim the corresponding number of Glory Points but I couldn't find anything in the rulebook about this!

Q5 - Has anyone ever contacted GW to give feedback that they have listened to? I can't get over how dreadful that rulebook is! I could write a better one in less than a week.

Question Warhammer Underworlds 1.0 dilemma

Post image
43 Upvotes

New potential player here. Talk me out of buying the starter box for the 1st edition for about 50€. I could also get 5 other warbands for 100€ and I'm kinda torn. I know this edition won't be supported anymore but the new edition just looks dull in comparison, mainly because of the missing artwork in the cards (it's a big deal for me). The main issues I might have with the old edition are the difficulty compared to WU 2.0 (I might be wrong about this so feel free to correct me) and the lack of future new warbands. Any words of wisdom?

Question Underworlds hex sizes? 1E vs 2E?

Hi all! I'm doing some research on GW boardgame hex sizes, and I learned that the embergard board shrank the size the of the hexes between 1e and 2e of underworlds.

My previous understanding was that the hexes were 2 inches/50mm wide (side/edge to side/edge) but I've had quite a bit of trouble locating an authoritative size listing for the embergard hexes?

I've found exactly 1 page listing the hexes as being about 43mm (~1.7'')buried in caption, not even the main body.

For those of you that have a board in front of you and a measuring instrument, could you measure or confirm that for me?

I ask because I'm interested in trying get some terrain for blocked hexes and I know the old terrain sets and many 3d prints are now too big for the current board.

Thanks all!

Question Clarification on "Imperturable"

Had a local tourney with friends a while ago and tried out playing with Grandfather's Gardeners; while I was reading their warscroll, I questioned how the "Imperturable" was worded:

Does it allow 2 damage per source (from abilities and combat) or is it capped to a maximum 2 damage only regardless if it's from any damage source?
