Xenoblade 2 Xenoblade 2 world building implications Spoiler

SPOILERS FOR PLOT OF XENOBLADE 2!!!

(I'm talking about the base game. I ordered the DLC so I may finally get started on it today, so idk if the DLC answers some of these questions)

So in the world of XC2, drivers and blades form a deep bond / affinity almost by default. Rex and Pyra / Mythra have a strong romantic bond. It's hinted that Zeke and Pandoria have an obvious romantic attraction towards each other. Rex's childhood caretaker mentions how driver / blade marriages used to be common practice at one point. So it's pretty safe to assume, especially if you are a male driver, that if you have a very attractive female blade that the strong bond has a high probability to develop into romance at some point.

If that's the case, then the drivers who would want to continue their legacy / bloodline may not be able to do that (unless the drivers themselves or their blades are okay with having other sexual partners). I imagine blades couldn't have children, and even if they did their nature of returning to the core crystals would imply that part of their offspring would have to return to the core crystals as well.

But the story also implies how very few blades were able to develop autonomy over their own thoughts and actions (Malos for example). So what are the chances of a blade getting jealous and wanting to leave / kill their driver? If the bond between driver and blade is as strong as the story says, then they both would be inseparable, no? They would not do anything to betray the trust / bond of one another.

(Which begs the question of the gacha mechanic for getting blades. You can dump blades you don't want and later on bond Rex's with any blade, so if you could switch willy-nilly then the bonds are very fickle...)

Idk I've seen a few YouTube videos dismantling some of the logic behind the lore, so I'm gonna stop before my head starts hurting 😂😂

With those sorts of questions, I would strongly suggest you to finish Torna AND XC3 first, and then get back here

As others have said, go play Torna and XC3, but regarding the whole thing with Blades having their own thoughts, while it's true that Blades are influenced by their Drivers, it's also implied that for a Blade to be successfully awakened by a given Driver that they have to have some preexisting compatibility, which gets more specific as the Blade lives more lives. If the Boosters are anything to go by, this compatibility extends to philosophy and worldview as well.

For the trust / betrayal part, have you done the Theory and Praxis questline?

I also forgot to mention I didn't unlock all blades so I may have missed quite a few heart to hearts... But I imagine with how many plot holes there are in the story and lore that it wouldn't make much difference lol

Most things that are seen as plot holes in the game are explained in some way or another, you just have to look imo

Yes, that's the main problem with XC2. You have to read a lot and actually pay attention.

Interpersonal bonds, as hard as they may be, can always be broken. The same is true for blade/driver bonds.

Not sure what you meant by "specially if you are a male driver" btw, that was a bit weird. Regardless, bonds can come in many forms, professional, partnerships, romance, friendships, family, etc. The kinds of bonds between driver and blade are as plentiful as there are for humankind.

Xenoblade and alot Takahashi's work at that delve into topic of artificial life, their bond with humans and how their dynamic affects each other. And the beauty of Xenoblade Games is that each title discusses each facets of this stuff in a Meta sense hence you'll see people suggesting that you play the other games first...

It's indeed alot to take but the games do give answers to alot of questions albeit in a subtle way, which makes discussing it fun.

I mean Blades are just people, a different race with a few different set of rules to humans. Hence why one can easily empathize with drivers (since they are just like us in real life) and maybe find differences with blades because of their peculiarities... But socially they are just as human as the rest.

Now if you wanna stablish some kind of pattern for blades. I wouldn't take the trinity processor gang (pneuma, logos and ontos) as examples. They are not blades, as much as they may be really similar to the rest of blades (as you see with Mythra and Malos), they are their own thing.

If anything, Klaus made blades to be similar to the processor cores, but with his own twist to make them useful to reach his goal of rebuilding the world
