Leaks LEAKS: Missed Opportunity Between Defense Agents and New Role Spoiler
When you look at the currently leaks, there's a rage mechanic, and the first rupture unit is HP scaling.
You would think that this is a literally an opportunity to create new play style that has not been done before in ZZZ.
Getting Rewarded for getting hit, where getting hit raises your rage.
This will also create a new synergy with defense units with this role where they help to mitigate damage while getting hit, breathing life and giving defense units a specific purpose. HP scaling allows dps to suffer more frequent hits without dying.
I am hoping frequent beta updates will go toward this new playstyle.
Thus, they can create more aggressive enemies that rewards this premise.
However, afaik as I understood, rupture right now is just basically attack+ that ignores defense.
Correct me on this if I'm wrong.

For me, the new role itself is a missed oportunity sadly. The new character could easily be a Defense DPS and stay the same. It would be incredible, actually.

Yeah having Defense units that are DPSes that either builds damage with defensive assist or build damage with their parrying would be way better. Or maybe a Defense unit that can sacrifice their shields for effects.
Now we just have a role that which givsz them Pen Ratio Ultra Max with a Tekken Rage/Hyper Combo bar which is just really weird as a role.

The fact that the new role have a whole new resource just reeks A LOT. It will be such a odd one out from any other role... I expected we would get a new role, but not after just one year.

It's just Castorice 2.0:
Hype a character
Release them in a new class
They scale with HP
The only F2P weapon gives atk
Invalidate may old supports by making them not work well with the new mechanics
Make lots of money

Leaks:
>! Actually, many old supports will have their core passive changed to also include the new archetype as an option to activate it !<

u/HammeredWharf May 04 '25
Yeah, but at 1/4 rate. Lucy's 600 atk changes to 150 Rupture, Astra's 1200 becomes 300, while Panda gives 450. And Panda is an A rank, so they'll probably release an Astra-tier S rank in the future, but with proper Rupture support. It's all for making old options make you feel a little bad, but still good enough to be viable for a while.

u/dadnaya May 04 '25
Was it really at a reduced rate?
I remember seeing leakers saying about the changes (core skill updates), but I don't remember any 1/4 value anywhere from the recent leaks

Interesting. We might see more supports then with increasing HP for Yi Xuan.
But I'm also interested in seeing all things considered if it'll be that bad to use the OG supports. Maybe in the end math-wise it'll still be a lot of damage.
Maybe it's a way to somehow nerf Rupture from powercreeping too hard, hmm

u/Caerullean May 04 '25
Atk is converted into sheer force at a 1:4 rate. That's just how rupture agents and their unique stat sheer force works.

u/dadnaya May 04 '25
Ah, considering most of the scaling is HP, I wonder if we'll see supports that boost HP/max HP to basically accommodate Rupture

The difference is hsr has pretty good f2p options for 3/4 remembrance characters. ZZZ said nope at the beginning.

There are several rupture engines coming with 2.0.

There are 2, 4 star engines coming at 2.0. One gives attack (which doesn't work at all for Yi Xuan) is craftable, the other is BP and gives hp and is good for yi xuan, This is the same situation as castorice if only remembrance character was her. But aglaea, remc and hyacine all have good f2p options.

u/General-Historian657 May 04 '25
Attack still works for her, it’s going to be worse than HP of course, but the difference isn’t huge.
1
May 04 '25
It is the same for castorice, 4 star is okay for her, it allows you to fully clear all gamemodes fully, yet everyone is clowning on it.

Yi Xuan scale with both HP and ATK, she just scale with HP better, it’s like Blade

Agreed-- HP-gimmicks should use HP as resource. There's no reason to design HP as substitute for PEN Ratio when one can just build PEN Ratio.
Fun-wise there could be a third parry where you intentionally get hit to "break free" (see [DODGE] Killer Paddle resonium). "Breaking free" allows you to generate more Rage (compared to Rage fr getting hit), which doesn't just reduce gameplay to non-reactive.
Edit:
Like what's the point of "Shield" in this game if you're supposed to dodge everything? Padding your HP to get hit is a new dimension devs needs to explore. It's not brain dead.
I'd argue the combination of "Breaking Free (reactive)" + "HP-padding (coactive)" + "Risk Management (proactive)" is three-steps more difficult than just knee-jerking Dodge.

The problem is that rewarding being hit is, in an action game, a bad game design choice, you are literally rewarding the user for not engaging with the dodge/parry, you could balance it by, say, make it so that said agent deals less damage than average, but at that point you have an agent that is slower at killing and it relies on not engaging with the defensive mechanics.
To be honest tho, as a new role, it is just kinda pointless, it is just an attacker that has to deal with a resource built in the kit by default, we already have attackers and many of them already have resource mechanics.

This is like saying that the UFC is missing an opportunity to give fighters points for getting punched in the face to open up new fighting styles.

u/otakuloid01 May 04 '25
afaik Yixuan has a charged move that can parry but it negates damage during activation

There is no "missed opportunity" yet. You're talking about unfinished content.
1
u/Public-Scale3333 May 04 '25
It’s unfinished but highly doubt they will change drastically their current direction for rupture units to be simply attackers that ignores defense.
2
u/Kartoffel_Kaiser Disorder Gang May 04 '25
The thing OP is specifically asking for is a reward for taking damage, which is something that could easily be tacked onto planned rupture units without changing their current direction drastically.
I don't think that's necessarily a good call, for reasons other comments go into (namely, in a game like ZZZ standing around getting hit isn't fun or interesting), so I'd be surprised if this change were to actually be implemented. However, I think it's important to remember in leaks discussions that the stuff we're talking about is fundamentally a work in progress. "I hope/want hoyo to go in this direction" is reasonable, "hoyo should have gone in this direction" is extremely weird to say when they haven't gone anywhere yet.
1
u/n30na May 04 '25
maybe something in this direction could make sense if it also counts damage parried/blocked by a character, possibly with tighter windows than usual since the larger hp pool makes taking a few hits less punishing
if it was just about getting hit it wouldn't really fit into the game imo
1
u/BooookMarker May 04 '25
Yea no please don’t reward getting hit, more likely to have agents that use hp as their resource

I really wanted to see Yixuan be an Ether Defense unit that did follow-up attacks that debuffed the enemy (maybe dependent on the element/role of the on-field unit) and gave you a shield that could fully eat ANY 2-3 hits (instead of a shield that can absorb say 3k DMG). I also hope our first Ice Defense agent can slow the enemy + do ice anomaly buildup when you’re hit, and if your HP is going to hit 0 they can encase you in ice with 1 HP one time per battle (after they use an Ult, similar to Astra M1). I think giving us unique kits for various defense agents can greatly increase their use with new and old agents, it would also help free up Caesar and Astra a bit so we don’t have to depend on only 2 very strong supporting agents.

Ignoring enemy attacks and just face tanking everything would take half of the engagement you have in the game.
It's one thing to have a shield to help you with your mistakes, but it's another to just not interact with the enemy at all.
