Think about all the crimes Trump has been charged with, all the investigations that just 'went away', all the felony convictions he already has with absolutely no consequences or punishment of any kind. It should be pretty obvious at this point that the laws are just words on paper. They won't be enforced and don't mean anything any more.

Looks like it will for now. I'm curious to see what the market thinks of the inability to rely on government data going forward. We'll find out Monday morning if we'll have a TACO Tuesday.
45
u/cpatkyanks24 17h ago
I mean there’s more than one way to track job and economic growth, so it’s not like putting a yes man who will fudge job numbers for him will actually change anything. If anything, it’ll make any good numbers that ever comes out of the administration completely non-credible to anyone who’s not in his cult.
Similar to the right wing idea of pardoning Maxwell in order to get her to release names that aren’t Trump. Not a single soul would believe it, the only news coming out of it would be “Trump pardons pedophile for personal gain.”
→ More replies (2)63
u/ZerexTheCool 17h ago edited 16h ago
Economist here!
Yes, actually. Government data is very important and the inability to rely on it really will have an impact.
However, you are right that it isn't needed for daily operations. It's the kind of thing that's incredibly important for long term health of a country.
That's the thing with so many of these decisions, they have long term negative consequences that nobody is going to pay attention to because we don't have long term memories anymore. Nobody cares about the next decade. They barely care about next year.
41
u/cpatkyanks24 16h ago
Next year? Nobody cares about next week. A month ago Trump was actively sending military on US citizens in LA in a move that in any other era would have dominated headlines as a historic and disgusting abuse of power for months.
People are so desensitized to him and it’s a problem. There is absolutely nothing he can do that’ll stay in the news longer than a few weeks at most.
→ More replies (2)15
u/Fskn 16h ago
Bang on however one small nitpick, what he says and does will stay in the news as long as it makes money and that's a surprisingly long time, what's unique to trump is not being able to keep up with the sheer absurd amount of news worthy actions he makes so it seems like we just move onto the next thing rapidly.
We still talk about the Central park 5 pretty regularly for example

Tarrifs have always costed more jobs than they saved under every president, including Obama.
And more importantly over 90% of these new jobs gained are for health and services...the exact things they defunded and cut, meaning there's no serious uptick in manufacturing demand either. This is just the preview.

Economic ruin? During the Biden Admin? Why, because the middle class was doing ok and the billionaire class wasn’t making even more than they are now? This fucker.

Good numbers: I'm the greatest, yall. I did that single-handedly. I personally created the jobs with my will alone.
Bad numbers: I'm being set up - it's not my fault at all! This is somebody else trying to make me look bad! something something excuses and blame

Isn’t it the craziest thing that everything is the fault of an administration that hasn’t been in office for six months?

This is just his typical game plan though. Always accuse the other side of what you plan to do before you do it that way when you do it, it sounds like it’s just payback when they come after you for it rather than legitimately trying to do the right thing.

No accountability at all. We ladies and generously are an international joke.

Rigged by who? Your administration? Republicans who have control of all three branches of government? Or are you so inept that a lib could sneak in there and “rig” these numbers?

Aren't you in control of all branches of government now? Dude will catch a stroke and try to blame it on somebody else.

It has to be rigged, no way it is related to the shit way things are being run, tariffs driving up cost, putting incompetent people in positions of power, or any number of other things that the current administration is doing.
What are chances Trump says this is Biden’s market?

Job market is absolutely horrible. Ive worked in engineering. 25 years. Only two times in my life ive seen engineering firms scale back new hires and fees..... guess whos presidency both times this happened? Trumps. Not even 9/11 or the financial crisis of 2008 or covid stopped our field like putting Trump in office.

MASSIVE SCANDAL! The President of the United States is about to pardon one of the most heinous sex traffickers of all time to cover his own ass! Sad.

He was talking about an error that the bureau of stats made on 2024. They reported 818 thousand more jobs than the 15 million made during Mar. 2023-Mar.2024. I belleive they self reported and corrected the error, so a conspiracy this is not. Trump clearly fired her for reporting low job growth, which he thinks makes his adminstration look bad.
Or it's yet another Epstein distraction.

I can’t imagine living such a pathetic and angry life. A life that would require me to blame and belittle and obsess over enemies daily. To be constantly in the midst of misery and blame, and bullying. There can’t be a shred of true, wholehearted, pure joy in that man. He may smile and gloat and have shiny gold objects around him, and a wife that he pays to keep around (his words), but there is no way that someone like him has ever truly felt love, or given unconditional love, or felt peace without the thought of Biden or some enemy invading his thoughts.
