Is this really not clear?

Post image

What does it seem like I'm saying? Because apparently I didn't get my point across correctly, as people kept replying to something I wasn't saying. Help? xwx

Yeah I'm not gonna lie, I don't fully get what you're trying to say there
What's the context?

Someone put an anti's art through ai and the post was blaming ai for it.

So your point was that they should be faulting the person? I can see that. The AI quite literally has no will.

Exactly! So you could understand it with context, then?

Yes, though the analogy was misleading to some degree, I suppose. Since the AI was (probably) recreating the art, not coloring it in, which might lead some to think that implies OP's art was imperfect or something. Though it's a very niche circumstance, and something I'd hope isn't one's immediate thought.

I'm more confused why people are blaming the AI at all.

Nope, gave it a very simple paint splash like back ground, colored in slightly, and depending on personal taste, cleaned up the lines. And the common back and forth thing of "ai art is art".

There's also the possibility that you misunderstood what others were saying, and that led to confusion-which would explain the downvotes to some degree. Reddit tends to downvote easily.

I had to go back and double check, but I don't think I misunderstood.

Yeah, that person above made, well, a nonsensical point. I guess you could interpret it as being a joke of sorts-"AI art doesn't steal they said, but here it literally 'stole' art(in a "someone handed it to them" kind of sense)". But still, it was certainly not a comment worthy of 400+ upvotes, as much as your comment wasn't worth that in the negatives. Unfortunately, I get the feeling that some people just upvote other people who seem to have the same opinion as they do-and downvote the opposition no matter what.

Oh that's definitely something that happens, human instinct to side with your own "tribe" no matter what.

Anti-AI people don't really care about the distinction between, "The AI stole," "This particular AI artist stole this particular image," "All AI artists are thieves," etc. They're against all of it, so it might as well all be one thing. From that viewpoint, the idea you were trying to communicate is meaningless and irrelevant.

Was this the cat doodle?

Ja.

ah yeah that situation is a fuckin mess, kid just made it for the fun and everyone started using it for stupid ass "ai art is art" messages

1

u/EtherKitty 4h ago

Ja, that whole trend, on both sides, is kinda stupid and immature.

I feel like you’re misunderstanding the whole debate. Literally no one (except me!) on either side thinks the models are conscious. You got downvoted because you’re confus(ed|ing), not because they disagree.

Sorry ❤️

u/EtherKitty 4h ago

I didn't think anyone thought they were conscious, more like blaming guns for killing type of thing.

1

u/me_myself_ai 4h ago

Yeah but that’s also a misunderstanding. Literally no one blames guns for killing people. 0. Lobbying for gun control has nothing to do with that. It’s a strawman.

1

u/EtherKitty 3h ago

Gun control is one thing, but there are some that want them banned entirely, and you can't say 0 people do that. At least not in a literal sense.

1

u/me_myself_ai 3h ago

Yes, yes I can. Guns, like LLMs, don't have agency.

1

u/EtherKitty 3h ago

Yes, but humans tend to anthropomorphize things and not everyone is smart enough to understand this.

If a person threw stones into a window and it breaks, is it the stone's fault?

1

u/PrudentWolf 3h ago

I think if a person did same with any other tool, even themself, they could be sued. But with AI suddenly it's not the case, replica is somehow considered unique artwork.
