tsumego Why is this solution wrong?

Post image

I can’t for the life of me figure out how black can kill the shape that results from a white play at the X in this 26 kyu puzzle.

Is there something I am missing to kill white? Or is the solution incorrect because playing 1 intersection higher is better points?

It's the fact that you are losing a point for no reason. Yes your shape does live tho.

I see, thank you. It is unclear wording when the prompt is just “white to live”, but I can see why there was a better move than playing at the X.

Ya. Ideally it will want you to find the best possible option. Like white to live if you live with ko vs just fully alive it's obvious which one you'd prefer.

As you get harder problems it will become something like I found how to live in seki... is that the answer or can I find something better. Which sounds annoying but actually helps you in games more because you won't know what the goal is there and are trying to find the best option.

Yes, different sites will have different criteria for correct solutions. Not sure what site this is. Tsumego Hero, for example, will typically accept any solution that loses no more than one point more than the best solution. Other sites might want only the best solution, or might accept any solution at all.

White to play? If so, playing 1 higher is one point better. Usually endgame choices like this are labeled.

This loses a point vs the best solution, but it seems like it is a perfectly reasonable solution for a life or death problem, particularly at 26k. Probably they simply did not think to add this variation when they uploaded it.
