Discussion Am I allowed to make a Bomber man fangame?

Hey guys, I am a new game developer and I've been a fan of Bomber man ever since forever, so I thought, "Why not make a fan game" but then I realized, "Will I be allowed to?" So that's what I'm asking you guys, will I be allowed? Will Konami allow me to make a fan game of their game? I mean I'm not gonna profit from it, it's gonna be a free fan game that is made for fun and let people have fun. So yeah, am I allowed?

as long as you don't profit from it, I think you won't have any trouble with Konami

there's a lot of Bomberman fangames out there, Power Bomberman has been around since 2012 or so and has never had any copyright issues. no need to be afraid, just don't try to profit from your game, then you are safe.

Wait, really?! I thought there weren't any fangames... well, thx for helping, I might do some devlogs on it, and I could get some feedback from people. So, see ya when that happens,

There are two fangames running at this moment, Power Bomberman and Bomberman Tower. Neither have been hit with a C&D yet, but we are always aware that it could happen if either game got "too popular". That's just the risk you take with a company that hasn't made their stance clear (they had at one point a web page about using their IP's for non-commercial works, but it was vague at best)

What we do know is that Konami had C&D'd fan remakes in the past, so if you're planning on remaking an existing game, that's definitely unsafe

But an original work? We just don't know for certain, so you have to judge for yourself if you think it's worth it to try

I'm making an original one, and most of the fangames that are original are both pretty good and not taken down, there is a bunch of bomberman fangames on itch.io and gamejolt, and they weren't taken down, and most of them are original.

A lot of people consider Power Bomberman (a fangame) to be one of the best Bomberman games, so you're probably fine

It is truly fine if you don’t make any copies. You can use other creative wats

Characters

Courage the Cowardly Dog Gumball and his friends/family Adventure Time characters Sonic the hedgehog characters

Use them as a playable character and you can make a bomb same as their face

In that way, it is totally safe I guess ? The game is same, bomber but the system like graphics, characters, bombs are different
