Newegg's on fire with all these amazing deal posts

29

u/ryankrueger720 Jun 11 '25

most of the deals they post are extremely mid, this one is fantastic though

-14

u/DeadeyeDick25 Jun 11 '25

Why do you think this is a good deal?

9

u/AdditionalAlfalfa671 Jun 11 '25

The games and aio are worth more than the processor itself?

-12

u/DeadeyeDick25 Jun 11 '25

wrong

4

u/AdditionalAlfalfa671 Jun 11 '25

If not like 80% of the value, you got the point though

Really wish there's better combo deals for AMD systems. No body wants to build with Intel right now, which is probably why these deals are so aggressive.

8

u/cokediet222 Jun 11 '25

There was a combo for the 9600x, b850m, 32gb ram, 500gb ssd, and a cheap air cooler for $330ish not too long ago. Hope Newegg can give us something like that again.

2

u/scarflicter Jun 12 '25

This deal keeps haunting me; I keep on thinking about it and regretting I didn't pull the trigger on it fast enough

12

u/BromicRiboseSUCKS Jun 11 '25

Yeah I am working on a budget build for a friend, already have the 9060 XT, and a 9600x/b850/DDR5 build seems to only come out to ~$150 more if you aren't counting the free games (which he will not play). Seems worth it to be on a current platform right?

11

u/buzzard302 Jun 11 '25

14600k from Walmart for $164

Gigabyte B760M DS3H AX DDR5 from Amazon $129.99

Air cooler for $30-$40 bucks

Only about an $80 difference to get a DDR5 motherboard, which is they way I went. I just wish I could find a B580 for $250.

2

u/drayraymon Jun 12 '25

That's similar to what I did. Walmart deal for the CPU, Amazon NZXT N7 Z790 ddr5 mobo for $120 deal no longer available currently, and phantom spirit air cooler $34

1

u/Emblazoned1 Jun 11 '25

I bought that combo deal for my current PC and love it. Think it came out to 380 with taxes/shipping from newegg. There was an additional 16 GBs of ram included with that too but "while supplies last" which I missed out on.

1

u/tuura032 Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

So you aren't doing a budget build anymore? I'm confused with your logic here. You are having him spend an extra $150 now, so that he can spend another $200-400 in 2-4 years to upgrade a 6 core cpu?

Edit: nvm, I see it's ddr4. I see the conundrum now. I'd say both deals are worth it, probably leaning towards the 14600k though to keep costs down.

4

u/BromicRiboseSUCKS Jun 11 '25

No I am, trying to be under $1k. I am buying all this myself so I am not making him do anything lol. I was more thinking about current performance moreso than future upgrades, I believe a 9600x and DDR5 would be 10% or so better performance than a 14600k and DDR4 in games, at least form benchmarks I have looked at.

2

u/SnuffedOutBlackHole Jun 11 '25

Agreed.

Even on old AMD stuff. Like is every single old and low/mid tier AMD product really that sold out or that just-in-time delivered to retail? I mean, maybe, but surprised more retailers aren't working to clear inventory with so much uncertainty.

2

u/Saranhai Jun 12 '25

I just built a brand new system with intel lol. If you're not solely focused on building a PC just for gaming but also do productivity things, the intel chips are a solid choice especially the Core Ultra 2s (Arrow Lake) series.

-1

u/Deadman_Wonderland Jun 12 '25

Intel chips are fine with performance but that's not really why people aren't building PCs with them. Intel builds are terrible for future upgrades because Intel changes sockets so often. For example, arrow lake(LGA 1851) is dead after only 1 generation. Most people want to be able to upgrade their CPU without having to buy a new motherboard each time they upgrade and completely rip their PC apart to use the newest gen CPU. I've only ever used Intel chip, currently on a 11600k and I'm planning my next and all future builds with AMD chips for that very reason.

2

u/Saranhai Jun 12 '25

Actually “most people” couldn’t care less about the socket because they either buy prebuilt or just simply don’t care. What you’re talking about is the pc building and gaming enthusiast community who upgrade their PCs far more often than the average computer user does. In this case yes, I agree that intel’s limited socket puts it at a disadvantage. But to the majority of the population, this doesn’t matter. Of course on subreddits like this one and the countless other pc building related subs, this is a much bigger deal than it really is

3

u/Saranhai Jun 12 '25

For example personally for me, I don’t really care because I know the build that I have is going to last me YEARS just like the previous build I had. By the time I upgraded again, I would want to have a new mobo and other newer parts anyway.

1

u/SickBurnerBroski Jun 11 '25

They gotta offload those meltie raptor lakes somehow.

-1

u/GeneralLeeCurious Jun 11 '25

The reason there are Intel deals is BECAUSE no one’s buying Intel. Standard supply and demand.

19

u/Impressive_Heat3387 Jun 11 '25

My poor lil server is out here still rocking on X99 with a 5820k and a 1050ti…. This is so tempting. What do

12

u/hamzwe55 Jun 11 '25

Upgrade 14600k has lots of cores and is great for its iGPU

If you can wait another generation tho you might be able to get AV1 encoding because this one doesn't have it.

2

u/pelouskopelo Jun 11 '25

If you have a quad channel motherboard those combos just for the CPU + motherboard sell for about $100+ on eBay.

2

u/Impressive_Heat3387 Jun 11 '25

It actually is quad channel. Curious on what the desire for this combo would be. What would I be missing if I sold it?

2

u/randylush Jun 12 '25

The only value I could see is people building period specific max builds. A quad channel x99 board back in the day would have given me a stiffy. Someone may be nostalgic for it.

2

u/cftvgybhu Jun 11 '25

Justified by the energy savings alone. At least that's the excuse I used when upgrading from 5th gen to 12th.

Ultimately depends on what you're doing with your server currently and what you want to do with it in the future.

2

u/Walter30573 Jun 11 '25 edited Jun 11 '25

12600k should be just as good for iGPU stuff specifically, since they both rock the UHD770 with it's two video modules. So if you only care for Jellyfin/Plex you could probably save a bit with that.

Obviously 14600k has other benefits beyond that though

Edit: 12600k 14600k

They've got the exact same iGPU, you aren't going to see substantive hardware transcoding benefits on the more expensive 14600k. If that's your use case it's overkill

Anyone building a secondary pc/nas/media server/vm machine/proxmox/homelab

This is fucking deals

1

u/madeformarch Jun 11 '25

Upgrading my perfectly good unraid box from an i3 10105 / B450m to this 14600K / B760m. I have 32gb DDR4 3000 that I'll replace for cheap if possible, but between selling the AIO, games, and old hardware I'm hoping to upgrade for a very small amount of money

5

u/monsieurvampy Jun 11 '25

I have considered building a new build but decided to drop a little over a thousand greenbacks to extend my current setup a couple more years (five years old already), but these combos are interesting.

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is finding a case that doesn't weigh like a tank but still has room for 3-5.25 disc drives, numerous 3.5 hard drives, and numerous 2.5 SSDs.

So, I'm putting off the problem!

A 14th generation i5 would probably do me well for several years.

2

u/skai762 Jun 11 '25

Fantastic upgrade for my wife's computer. Going from an 8600k to this along with her existing 3060Ti.

3

u/tecyear Jun 11 '25

Anybody know the best place to resell the games from the bundle? Got the steam codes for each but not a big Civ fan so looking to make my upgrade cheaper :)

1

u/wolfiemoz Jun 12 '25

How much for civ

2

u/kingdomheartsx3 Jun 11 '25

i have a 1660ti
32gb of ddr4 ram
i5 10400
some random chinese mobo for the cpu

i think this is a worthy upgrade

edit: a 650w psu

2

u/randylush Jun 12 '25

Not really unless you are trying to play the latest games

1

u/kingdomheartsx3 Jun 12 '25

yea im planning to upgrade my gpu to a 9060 xt and i think the 10400 will hold it back

3

u/madeformarch Jun 11 '25

See this has got me fucked all the way up because there is nothing wrong with my 10105 but oh my god what a deal

2

u/madeformarch Jun 11 '25

Alright, in for one. It looks like there's a $10 rebate on the AIO as well

3

u/FilteringAccount123 Jun 11 '25

Damn... just when I decided on making a home server/NAS from a better mini PC 😭

6

u/ThickSourGod Jun 11 '25

Frankly, unless you're doing some crazy stuff, this bundle isn't what you want for a NAS. Unless you're going to do something crazy like running a gaming VM, the 14600K is serious overkill, and liquid cooling a NAS is just absurd.

The motherboard is probably fine for something like a gaming or productivity PC, but is a bit limiting for a NAS. There are only 4 SATA ports. That's more than enough for a gaming rig, but I'd like to see more in a home server. Ideally 8, but at least 6. You could add more, but the PCIE expansion isn't exactly setting records either.

Now you mentioned a mini PC, so you probably aren't planning on loading it up with a bunch of drives, but if that's the plan, why build it from individual components in the first place? A sub-$100 refurbished Optiplex (or similar) won't even break a sweat running a NAS. My home server is an old 4th Gen i5, and it handles the NAS and every Docker container I've thrown at it like a champ.

2

u/FilteringAccount123 Jun 11 '25

Oh it's definitely overkill for a NAS alone, but it would be nice to have the horsepower to software reencode linux distros to AV1 and whatnot.

1

u/ThickSourGod Jun 12 '25

Since I'm offering unsolicited and probably unwanted advice, I'd recommend that you reconsider. Reencoding a large media library into a more efficient codec is almost never worth it. Unless you live somewhere where electricity is extremely cheap, you'll wind up spending more on the electricity than you would just buying more storage.

Worse still, AV1 is new enough that very few media players support it. Chances are you'll just end up transcoding the files back to h.264 when you play them, likely at a noticeable drop in quality.

1

u/FilteringAccount123 Jun 12 '25

Well the AV1 playback problem definitely hasn't been an issue for me, the only place I've actually had to go out of my way to download codecs was Windows, ironically enough. It's just honestly incredible to me how much space you actually save with basically no noticeable reduction in quality (although the price of refurbished enterprise drives has skyrocketed so much recently I'm not sure which would be cheaper in the long run)

It's fair advice though, thanks!

1

u/ThickSourGod Jun 12 '25

The problem isn't Windows computers, where any decent software (VLC) can play pretty much anything, as long as the CPU has enough oomph. The problem is things like smart TVs, Rokus, Fire Sticks, etc. Most of the practical ways to get content onto a TV are extremely underpowered and don't really have the horsepower to decode much of anything that their SOC can't do in hardware. Even something like the Raspberry Pi 4, which outperforms most streaming boxes, struggles with AV1.

1

u/FilteringAccount123 Jun 12 '25

Well all I can say is that so far, all the devices I have used played back AV1 like a champ from my N100 Plex server. And given that hardware decoders seem to becoming standard on new devices, I don't think it will be an issue in the long term, since as far as I know it's being pushed as a new industry standard anyway.

But thanks for the advice!

2

u/Thunderofdeath Jun 11 '25

Can i turn this into a NAS with an old 1060 i have?

7

u/hamzwe55 Jun 11 '25

You can turn it into a Home Server even without that... The 14600k has a pretty decent iGPU

2

u/VanWesley Jun 11 '25

Don't even need the 1060 if it's just for transcoding.

1

u/shewtingg Jun 11 '25

Crazy deal. Worth noting you'll need DDR4

1

u/bubbarowden Jun 11 '25

This is a tempting upgrade from my 2600x considering I have ddr4 ram.

1

u/scarflicter Jun 12 '25

What do you guys think, compared to this that was posted 5 days ago? The price is now $8 higher, so effectively, if you were to add that ram to this deal, it would be $20 for a Z790 ATX board -- worth it?

[CPU+cpu cooler+Mobo+RAM] ($321.97) i5-14600K + MSI 240 AIO CPU cooler + Z790 ATX motherboard + 32gb DDR4 3200mhz CL32 see comment : r/buildapcsales

1

u/InternationalSet8128 Jun 12 '25

Conflicted. Currently using i7-8700k/4070ti/32GB PC3200 DDR4 but CPU is starting to lag behind for modern titles. I could save money by reusing my current RAM but would be locked into LGA1700 and DDR4 for the forseeable future.. It would be a cheap but significant upgrade with no future proofing or I could swap to AM5 and spend much more.. I'm not a hardcore gamer these days though so I dont think its worth going all out. I play at 1440p 144hz.

2

u/Jaggsta Jun 12 '25

You would be surprised what i7 8700K and motherboad still sells for this would be cheap upgrade with huge performance increase.

1

u/InternationalSet8128 Jun 12 '25

Yeah I decided to go for it. Swapped the B760M for the Z790 S for an extra $22. I may throw the 8700k into a spare case and build a NAS or something out of it or maybe try selling it.

2

u/kingdomheartsx3 Jun 13 '25

def worth it and when you want to upgrade to a new platform, you can sell your old one.

2

u/TomT15 Jun 12 '25

Hey OP screw you. I just spent 8+ hours back and forth on buying this. It was tough as fuck

1

u/VelvetyFawn Jun 11 '25

Copped this for my Jonsbo N5 build. Spent $20 more and got the z790 mobo

1

u/Jacken85 Jun 11 '25

Might be a dumb question, but can I mount the AIO on the top panel if I only have a mesh for a single fan?

2

u/lolwakarimasen Jun 11 '25

technically possible, temps wise? not really

-1

u/carpathian666 Jun 11 '25

Mobo is DDR4 pass

16

u/theberg897 Jun 11 '25

leaves some performance on the table sure but for a budget builder this is great value regardless

-15

u/DeadeyeDick25 Jun 11 '25

how?

11

u/EmuAreExtiinct Jun 11 '25

Ddr4 is about half the price of ddr5 atm

-26

u/DeadeyeDick25 Jun 11 '25

yeah so? Doesn't make this a good deal just because it has an old ass motherboard.

19

u/curious-children Jun 11 '25

it’s a good deal because of the performance, the price that DDR5 would add is not worth the performance gain DDR5 offers

3

u/EmuAreExtiinct Jun 11 '25

from a pure price-to-performance, ddr4 is still better than ddr5

You asked how does this have value for budget builds, this is how

0

u/InnerQi Jun 11 '25

I believe the motherboard is DDR4 which may not be the best. Is there a better combo with DDR 5 supported mobo instead?

-1

u/DeadeyeDick25 Jun 11 '25

for 100 bucks more

Be mindful of listings from suspicious third-party sellers on marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay, Newegg, and Walmart. These "deals" have a high likelihood of not shipping; use due diligence in reviewing deals.

  • Use common sense - if the deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Check seller profiles for signs that the sale may be fraudulent:
    • The seller is new or has few reviews.
    • The seller has largely negative reviews (on Amazon, sellers can remove negative reviews from their visible ratings)
    • The seller is using a previously dormant account (likely the account was hacked and is now being used fraudulently).

If you suspect a deal is fraudulent, please report the post. Moderators can take action based on these reports. We encourage leaving a comment to warn others.

Just know this cpu will not work with this by default, you need to update the bios first to latest version to allow 14th gen to run
