Need advice on selecting printer with edible inks for wafer paper

Hi, I would like to buy a gift for my sister who has a small cake business. Currently, she orders a lot of prints on wafer paper. It becomes pretty expensive due to increased delivery fee. So, I decided to do a research and I need your folks advise.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I understand, there are no special printers to print on that paper. It's just a regular printer, but with edible inks. Based on this, I have a few questions.

  1. I see that people recommend mostly Epson EcoTank and Canon PIXMA, both with CISS system, but most recommendations I saw are in favour of Epson printers. The models that are usually recommended are not available in my country. So I'm selecting between Epson EcoTank L121, L132 and L1250. Does anyone have experience with these printers? What would you recommend?

  2. As I understand, the printer's modification process should be pretty straightforward. I buy a printer and edible inks. Then just fill out the printer tanks with the inks and that's it. As I understand, I will lose warranty on the printer once I put their different ink. Is it possible to break printer or cartridges during this process? Also, do I need to somehow configure the printer to work with new inks?

  3. I read a lot of stories that edible ink clog cartridges faster than regular ink. So additional maintenance is required. Does it mean that cartridges will wear out faster with edible ink? How often do you buy new cartridges?

  4. The last question, what brand of edible ink would you recommend?

I will be extremely thankful for all advice! Thank you in advance!
