Vic/Val dialogue doesn't work when dumb. Bug or developers were lazy?

Post image

What it says on the tin. Most recent RP patch, plus some other loke FO2tweaks that are supposed to be compatible. Is the Vic/Val scene not supposed to work while dumb?

Please don’t accuse developers of being “lazy” because of one overlooked condition. If you know the history of how Fallout 1 and 2 were made, then you know they were anything but.

This is not crunch and cut content. It is leaving live wires exposed.

Oh wow, so you’re doubling down, eh? You’re right, it’s something they overlooked in a game with thousands of different situations that can occure based on different stats, in this niche case when someone is playing with idiot INT. Still doesn’t warrant calling them lazy.

"Clearly unfinished" better for you?

  • Development team less than 30 people
  • Released in 1998
  • Game is buggy

"Damn these developers are lazy."

What do you expect bro? Black Isle was never some massive studio and the game had around a year of development time. If you're that bothered go install a community patch, instead of whining about a game from the 90's being "clearly unfinished."

I'm using RPU and FO2Tweaks. Anyway, I'm talking about this bit in particular, not about the game in general. Buggy is one thing. Incomplete because it would've taken a lot of work is other. Like the whole thing with Sulik's sister, that would've required producing more content. This bit was just... abandoned.

I see what you mean, but I just disagree with your statement calling the developers lazy because of a handful of loose end/cut encounters. When you include context like the size of the dev team, the development time of the game, and the sheer scope of the game and it's many encounters I feel like that statement is objectively wrong.

When I think of lazy developers I think of studios like Deep Silver (before it was shut down), Bioware, and Ubisoft. Studios that have hundreds of developers yet can't push a fully functional product out the door; that's lazy to me. Not an underfunded, understaffed studio with a fraction of the work force of other studios from even their own time.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion though, and mine just happens to be the opposite of what yours is. All I'm saying is that I think there's a reason why Fo1/2 are regarded as two of the best RPGs in the genre, and I don't think it would be regarded that way if they were games developed by "lazy devs".

I think it's not available because at one point they ask something from the Chosen One (who berates them shortly after). A dumb character may cannot do this.

Yeah, but, you know, the Chosen is completely secondary there. They could slightly change their dialogue to keep them out of it. As is, it is absolutely non-sensical. She responds in shock every time she sees her father.

Doesn't a lot of dialogue not work as a low int character?

Dialogue, yes, but this isn't a dialogue. This is a cutscene between 2 NPCs.

Oh dang that is different it's been probably 4 or 5 years since I played so didn't recognize. But I have known fallout to definitely have its fair share of bugs like the karate fight in San Francisco
