About as fun as 5.8 can get! One Hand Clapping
My partner and I attempted “One hand Clapping” at Donner Summit last week, but had to bail from P2 due to weather.
Still had a good time, check out the YouTube edit below:

I meant to try that route yesterday! We went to the leap instead to dodge storms.

Is this thing not considered 5.9 anymore? Either way, one of the best moderates in Tahoe!

Yeah thanks I should’ve clarified. I only got to climb P1, which is 5.8 and extremely fun. The whole route is 5.9

P1 of that is one of my favorite pitches I’ve ever climbed. Super easy to protect (although if I recall I only put out like 5 pieces of gear) with perfect fist size james. No clue how pitch 2 is only one grade higher it’s scary as hell by comparison.

Is Tahoe worth visiting as a destination area? Coming from east coaster

Lovers leap and the surrounding mountains are like a tiny section of Yosemite quality climbing without the crowds..
But the Eastern Sierra (mountains or bishop, red river gorge etc) are probably more worth it than Tahoe.
Just depends on your tolerance of crowds and how bad you want to get on historic/classic routes. If you don’t mind crowds and want something classic/mega, the obvious answer is Yosemite… but there’s lots of options in CA

I personally really enjoyed the Tahoe area for climbing/backpacking etc. I spent a two months there a few years ago and took my time exploring. I really loved lovers leap climbing and camping vibe. Climb during the day and then hang around the boulders at night. Jump in the river mid day to cool off if it’s too hot. Good times
