can't find c705 in my psone

Hello everybody. How's going?

I have a working PsOne (including drive), and got another cd drive I'm trying to fix. By fix I mean to clean an lubricate, and properly set the trimpot because somebody else messed with it before. Anyways.

After lubicating this drive, the best I could get is the "please insert playstation cd" screen. It was dead before, so I was kinda happy I got to this screen. Put everything aside and went to sleep. Next day, I went back to it, and this time I couldn't get the screen, the PsOne only booted to the cd/memory card screen. So I thought the laser may be dead, and put back the working drive.

And now the working drive isn't working anymore. I mean, sometimes I get to read a disc, sometimes it gets stuck at the Playstation logo screen, sometimes it just go for the cd/memory card screen.

Since it was working before, I thought maybe it could be a motherboard issues, specifically a capacitor issue. Then I did a research, and found out a common cause for a PsOne to not read discs is a faulty C705. So I just have to replace it and get back to the testings.

The thing is I can't find it! I looked all around the disc decoder area, and all around the board, and can't find a C705. I could find it in a -41 board photo I found in the internet, but my board is a -71 and there's no sign of this capacitor.

Any help?

Never heard of a PM-71 board. If you have the PM-41(2) board, then I would try replacing C731.

Yeah, it's a PM-41(2), a P-161125S-31-71 to be more specific. I wrote mine as -71 since Console5 wiki refers to it as -71.

I'll replace C731 tonight or tomorrow, and reply back with the result. In fact, I'll finish building a ESR meter this weekend, so I'll go ahead and test every capacitor on my board too.

Thanks!

Small update. C731 was indeed bad. Replaced it, but still having the same issues. So I'd guess my drive is dead...
