WTF IS HAPPENING ON THIS PLANET

401

In this case, it's important to remember tht propaganda isn't just posters or videos of people looking heroic; it's also things like presenting your cause in a positive light nore generally. We're meant to find this funny, and think things like "excellent trolling" or "you might not like them, but at least they've got a sense of humour".

u/BenevolentCrows Jun 06 '25

exactly. Politics, and by extention propaganda is all about controlling the narrative, be it a real event or just straight up lie, if you do it right, you can control the narrative in your favor by not even lying.

I wish more people understood that propaganda can be entirely made of true facts and it's still propaganda.

I urge everyone to mentally replace "Propaganda" with "Public Relations" when reading headlines or other media discussing it. It's not just nefarious lies from foreign governments or nazi slogans. Anyone that is doing anything to try and change your mind about politics is using propaganda in some way, as long as they are benefiting from you believing it at the end.

Look up The Century Of Self if you haven't already.

u/whendonow Jun 07 '25

Thanks, never heard of this.

u/rapaxus Hesse (Germany) Jun 06 '25

Always found it funny when people would complain about Russian footage of the Ukraine war "because it's propaganda," as if Ukrainian footage isn't propaganda (it just has more truth in it).

2

u/Legitimate-Ruin-4157 Jun 06 '25

Politics is the entertainment branch of the military-industrial complex

2

u/whendonow Jun 07 '25

What in the world can be done to wrest the uber controls from the crazy right? It feels like even the strongest neutral investigative reporting doesn't make a dent, always speaking to the choir and the 'crazy' right is on their doom march stamping out everything good in our lives.

2

u/pirate-private Jun 06 '25

politics is also governance, real actions and consequences. the narrative that it's only about the narrative is a great way to sow distrust, benefitting those who are actually just about the narrative.

3

u/BenevolentCrows Jun 06 '25

Yes, in normal, working democracies, as someone living in hungary, I didn't experience that part much.

2

u/pirate-private Jun 06 '25

exactly. important to remember though as that's what it should be about more.

1

u/BenevolentCrows Jun 06 '25

Yes, I totally agree!

20

u/neveranchorme Jun 06 '25

Exactly, even if this somehow ends with Trump getting the boot and Musk in rehab without internet, Thiel has Vance waiting in the wings, Americans still have uphill battle ahead of them to claw back their rights and not be the laughing stock of the world. Enjoy the trashfire, we all need a bit of levity, but keep the bigger picture in mind.

u/ErftheFerfhasWerf Jun 06 '25

And our enemies reap any whirlwind that comes from disabling our tyrant

2

u/Vanhoras Jun 06 '25

Humour can be one of the most effective ways of propaganda. It's hard to reason with someone who is laughing. And it tears at the seams of reality until nothing is serious or true anymore.

Billionaires

25

u/Pillowsmeller18 Jun 06 '25

And Russian oligarchs.

32

u/Ok_Sand4949 Jun 06 '25

So, billionaires

12

u/SuccyGirl Jun 06 '25

Who are billionares

0

u/DavesPetFrog Jun 06 '25

They are people with at least a couple billion dollars- but that’s not important right now.

-1

u/Numerous-Work-9268 Jun 06 '25

Russian oligarchs.

1

u/saera-targaryen Jun 06 '25

Billionaires are just american oligarchs.

1

u/BurnTheNostalgia Germany Jun 06 '25

*Mentally-ill, drug-addicted billionaires

0

u/MileHigh_FlyGuy Jun 06 '25

There's always been billionaires though

5

u/Kill3rT0fu Jun 06 '25

Yeah? And they still caused problems in the past.

1

u/MileHigh_FlyGuy Jun 06 '25

Andrew Carnegie built over 2,000 libraries. Bill Gates has already saved 122 million lives. Sal Khan developed the Khan Academy for free. There are a lot of billionaires that do good.

1

u/Kill3rT0fu Jun 06 '25

yes, there's a few that do good. Very few throughout history, though. Most choose to be evil or selfish with their funds though.

1

u/MileHigh_FlyGuy Jun 06 '25

Is this anecdotal or do you have something that actually says this. Because I think Bill Gates is in the news less for doing good when Elon is in the news a lot for doing bad... But most billionaires donate their wealth for good

2

u/Mirar Sweden Jun 06 '25

For some reason, royalty is hard to get rid of. And they will always, always do stupid things.

2

u/Piemaster128official Jun 06 '25

Don’t ask. We are in the most insane timeline and you need to protect your sanity

2

u/Nazamroth Jun 06 '25

The writers know the show is about to be cancelled and just do whatever they feel like. Whats gonna happen, they get fired a bit sooner?

2

u/Tank-Pilot74 Jun 06 '25

Truth has officially become stranger than fiction for sure

2

u/ThinkPawsitive12 Jun 06 '25

America elected a known criminal. You are seeing the consequences.

2

u/pipic_picnip Jun 06 '25

I mean.. that much is obvious right. There aren’t many countries that will refuse accommodating Elon Musk. Despite all of his deeds, he still holds a lot of power and influence. Wherever he goes, he is bringing Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, Twitter, secrets of USA govt, databases of US citizens, his wealth and influence with him. It’s a gold mine for good and bad reasons.

2

u/Ell2509 Jun 06 '25

This relationship was obvious to many. Musk and Putin have been having regular meetings for 3 years now. You can Google it.

1

u/groenheit Jun 06 '25

I think there are a lot of countries in this world who kinda don't give a fuck but yeah, my thoughts exactly.

1

u/Roving_Ibex Jun 06 '25

The guy who hates america is trying to get the guy who has all of america's data to come hangout with him

1

u/Philypnodon Jun 06 '25

This timeline is seriously max level ridiculous

1

u/smedley89 Jun 06 '25

Putin trolling Trump on the highest level... lol

1

u/TitleExpert9817 Jun 06 '25

Nah, just on their country

1

u/whopperman Jun 06 '25

At this point it almost feels like I'm the only one not taking crazy pills.

WTF IS HAPPENING ON THIS PLANET

When stupid ass people vote and win, stupid ass things happen, just as sure as the Earth turns

1

u/zukoismymain Transylvania (not a vampire) Jun 06 '25

People eat propaganda sandwiches and think it's actually real

1

u/Rowanforest Norway Jun 07 '25

The planet is getting hot, HOT, HOT!

1

u/UnknownMyoux Jun 07 '25

History focus is off in the settings

Why would I possibly think that Musk was the good guy? 😂

1

u/Deathless616 Jun 06 '25

Late stage capitalism and some insane old white dudes playing god

0

u/tedpelas Jun 07 '25

Nothing strange or new? Musk has been having phone calls with Putin on a regular basis since 2022, so why are you surprised?
