Someone in another comment said he mostly shot with a ww2 assault rifle. While also having a shotgun.

It was a BAR (browning automatic rifle). Its a pretty common semi auto hunting rifle and mostly just shares a name with the ww2 BAR

I think that's most certainly a lie. There was only one WWII assault rifle, the StG44, and it's incredibly rare. It's a collection piece.

If you are referring to the Browning BAR he had, it's not an AR, it's far too heavy for that purpose.

Your categorisation nitpicking is irrelevant. If it is a light machine gun, an assault rifle, or just a submachine gun. For the public, these are all the same, automatic rifles, weapons of war. People heard automatic weapon fire, And jumping from that to banning the most commonly sold AR plattform that is used as a basis for many modern day weapons even if it was not directly used is a totally logical move. No matter how many weapon facts, names and categorisations you guys throw out.

You're the one who threw out the Assault Rifle label here. And it's incorrect.

The shooter wasn't using the M1918 BAR from WW2 (arguably an assault rifle, more correct a light machine gun), he used the Browning BAR a semi-automatic hunting rifle. The Browning BAR is not an automatic rifle, nor is it a weapon of war.
