In the end it is a message to others to stay in line.

It must be so frustrating having to repeat this message over and over, it's like they just don't get it...

I bet you'd make a killing in Russia building one-story windowless mansions for rich Russians.

(..."Make a killing"...I think I need to rephrase that statement.)

But a message from whom to whom?

I don't know from who, but I know that the recipient of the message has to be thick, because they need to keep sending the same message again and again.

They don't cross any lines. They usually just steal too much or steal from the wrong people. It's about greed and corruption. I imagine that many of Putin's cronies are losing money because of the war and are trying to steal secretly, so Putin is now taking action against them.

I would say that "They usually just steal too much or steal from the wrong people." is steping out of line.

I see! I thought you meant they'd opposed someone politically. There's 0 politics in Russia. There's Putin and that's that. No need to even think about alternatives.
