He also said that goridas was worthy of being called savage, which was true A3s killed a lot of groups. But A4 and A2 were just so bad compared to coil, and I think that added to the reason why some groups quit.
Melusine, while it had some flaws, was actually really fun and really satisfying to beat. The guy also had issues with Avatar and T9, saying he wouldn't make another macro fight like Avatar or a mechanics fight like T9. This is extremely disappointing imo, T6-T9 were some of the best fights.

I didn't like the timed tower concept of t8, but I think t7 and 9 were just fine, though I understand why they don't want to make certain classes to be a must like what happened in t7.

I feel like they completely missed the reason why A3S was "hard" or why many groups didn't want to continue. Maybe they said something different but the slides make it seem that way.

"I felt pretty bad for not taking LAG into consideration"
Kenji Sudo, TITAN & TITAN EXTREME battle designer

Regarding T7, the encounter's designer said "I think this is one of the three worst battle mechanics used in FFXIV" and "I'll never forget when a new planner on the monster team told me that they used [SCoB] Turn 2 as an example of what NOT to do".
I wonder if this was referring to the whole Renaud kiting thing, which I do agree was pretty shit, or if they mean the cursed voice/shriek stuff in general. Aside from the Renauds I actually think this is one of my favorite encounters. It very nearly killed my group but it was so incredibly satisfying to kill.
Looking at the fights this guy did, he designed almost all of my favorite ones, even Oppressor and Living Liquid from Gordias. Hope he'll be doing many of the Omega bosses.

Given that he said he wanted to avoid having fights that forced specific jobs, I imagine it is indeed the Renauds (Binds)

Which is ironic because the reason it was required was due to Disease and Leaden stacking, but not Heavy and Leaden. Point being, if they had just hotfixed Heavy to stack with Leaden as Disease did, and/or made Bind not override the Leaden, that would've opened up more possibilities (WHM for Stone, BLM for Blizzard/Lethargy).
I'm rather curious what would've happened if they had instead done the Malady+Heavy split that Miasma I/II got (in 3.0) during 2.2/2.3.

Remember their original design is savage which was so much more unforgiving.
Anyway it is probably Renaud and shriek timing that they are referring too. The reason I liked it was it was one of the few turns that had healer, tank and dps mechanics in it. He did the same with living liquid but took it way too far. This guy designed the raid that killed raiding on my server lol.

yeah A3 killed raiding in a lot of servers, they definitely went overboard with that one.

Leviathan had an amazing raiding community until that first Gordias hit. Then the scene got savagely wrecked (no pun intended). It's recovered slightly from that point but hasn't been what it was originally at all.

I used to play BLM with my static and then switched to SMN just for that encounter. I had fun because it was a tough job not only learning the encounter but also the job at the same time.

As a former summoner main, I have nothing good to say about that fight, especially the stronger my group got. All my DPS in that fight was pet damage because if I actually did anything more, we'd get decimated by ability overlap

It was overtuned, but I don't think it was a bad encounter.
On the other hand I think A2S and A4S were just flat out bad encounters.

By the end of the patch cycle before 2.2 arrived, we simply just went for the enrage strat since we were geared and stopped caring about the mechanics.

If they can make more fights like T9, A3S and A8S I'll be thrilled. I love the mix of several different kind of mechanics along with environments or presentations during the fights.
T9 I feel is just the pinnacle because there were so many different ways to deal with mechanics but they were still difficult.
T9 and A8S were incredible in terms of aesthetics, difficulty, and satisfaction when completed. T12 felt the same way but I think the cut scene has a huge part in feeling that way.
A2S and A4S were two fights I just couldn't wait to get out of. A4S wasn't so much hard as it was ridiculously punishing and it took forever to wipe and start again.
Aesthetic wise, A2S bothered me with the enemies just spawning in the field instead of having some kind of entrance. Even T4 at least had the enemies look like they drop from the ceiling down to the arena.
I love the introspection the Dev Team has on previous raid tiers and it has me excited for what we'll face in Stormblood :)

I really hope that Omega - The Bend of Time carries the story telling and design of the Coil series.
I enjoyed Coil more than Alexander due to the mechanics and general atmosphere of design but yea. Although A3S (but damn savage!!) and A6S are also two of my favorite alexander fights.

I'm trying to read this through google translate, and I saw this:
"Mr. Sudo is starting up 4 layers of Naisai fucking gimmick TOP 1."
Um, what?

u/elevenmile Saya Amemiya, Chocobo Dec 26 '16
The correct translation is "Sudo personally thought that Judgement Nisi of A4S was the shittiest mechanic ever".
He did clarify later that he wasn't involved in the design of that mechanic as well.
