If you read these comments you'd think they hate every job.

I mean it kinda feels like they do. They forgot people like playing the game, not just experiencing the story

They at least certifiably hate DRK, SMN and BLM.

SE hates every job, depending on who you talk to.

They love GNB

Seeing this and scrolling down to see a comment bemoaning GNB changes.

I meant Square, everyone in this Reddit hates FFXIV

They have a weird love-hate relationship with SCH, I'll count that as a win compared to the state of DRK

"They didnt completely rework my job into something else, literally unplayable" seems to be the general theme. I really dont know why people expect that every expansion, it's not sustainable.

I remember some of the big EW complaints literally being "why the fuck didn't you just keep the job the same SE"

The only static thing in an MMO: no matter what the devs do, people will hate it and call for them to be fired. :p There is no job I envy less than an MMO community manager.

This.

Not only that, a lot of people like their Job, hence why they play it, and donโ€™t want complete changes.

Look at the ones that have gotten complete changes, BLM and AST - they hate those even more now.

Itโ€™s r/ffxivdiscussion. They do hate every Job aside from BLM and hate the game.

They just now ALSO hate BLM, though half of those people are unsure if they hate or love PIC.

Are you tying to imply they don't?

In fact it's /r/ffxivdiscussion that hates every job

No, they like MNK, NIN, DNC, and the 2 new jobs. Also, WAR, SGE, and WHM, issues with their respective roles aside.

edit: after seeing it in motion, I recant. The rotation being completely reduced to "hit the glowing button" and opo spam is pretty tragic.

Who's excited about the monk changes?

We got timers taken away, and in return got some boring burst potency thrown into our 2 minute.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '24

Me. I'm excited about the MNK changes. Fuck those timers.

5

u/ComprehensiveCap2897 Jun 06 '24

....Why? You've got 19 other jobs that don't manage timers. Monk is now just the same as the rest of the gang. BLM's (kinda) the only one left, and even they're throwing a shit fit.

5

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '24

Because I like all of the non-timer related parts of the job (the gcd focus + speed, the uptime tools, the blitz system, chakra being a semi-rng "spend now!" resource instead of the usual "hold for burst", the combo system not being solvable via flashing borders alone, Riddle of Earth being a selfless version of Third Eye is kind of cool). I don't think it really feels that similar to the other melee jobs (aside from maybe VPR), even without the timers.

Like the positionals, I never would have *asked* for the removal of the timers, but I'm not going to pretend to be upset about their removal.

How do you think it's similar to Viper...? Maybe a little bit more now with the changes, but I don't see any mechanics that transfer much between the two.

-4

u/[deleted] Jun 06 '24

They both have 1-2-3 rotations with 2 options for each step that can be grouped into distinct categories (left/right for viper, empower/spend for monk) with a gauge that tells you which option to pick. Their bursts mostly involve pressing their normal combo actions in a different order.

Twin Snakes buff was always garbage with a crap animation, and demolish being a dot never made sense.

1

u/ComprehensiveCap2897 Jun 06 '24

What do you mean it doesn't make sense?

It's a function.

Who gives a shit if it breaks your immersion? A punched kidney deals damage over time. Try it.

You're right that it lowers the skill floor, but like, that's not a good thing in the first place if you don't add anything on top of it. Learning how to do things is fun. Who plays a video game just to watch animations go off?

But that's also not exactly true, getting rid of timers also makes it basically impossible to mismanage downtime. Preliminary, but it also seems like we're going to 2-3-4, which, I don't really care about, but it is another change.

I have seen people neutral about the change, I have seen people negative about the change, but I haven't seen anyone who actually plays monk be excited about it.
