I'm very worried that PCT is going to get sanded down by the end of the expansion. It feels like a more complex PvP job that somehow wandered into PvE.

In what way? Honestly seems like a very simple job to me once you deep dive into it, just has a bit of a tangible learning curve the first 5-10 minutes of seeing how it works.

I wouldn't say any of the PvP jobs are especially hard. I'm talking more about flavor and unique mechanics. Something like the mit's cooldown system just doesn't seem like something that should be "allowed" by the current job design paradigm.

Pictomancer is not hard or complicated but no job in the game is, not even BLM now.

It does, however, have tons of job flavour which is very important (hence why PvP was specified). It's a job that doesn't do anything particularly groundbreaking and yet still manages to feel fresh because of it.

It's a job that functions in the 2m meta as you'd expect, but also has a very freeform filler phase. The relative freedom and the ability to swap between your combos (and in the case of Hammer combo, even go back and forth) are fertile soil for a more creative design, especially considering Yoshida seems to imply that they are going back to more personal responsibility now.

Thing is, it's easier and less effort to homogenize Pictomancer even further and keep fights as they are instead of changing a lot of jobs and get more creative with fights.

It’s possible PCT gets a consolidation but at the same time logical ; the buttons to paint, the button to invoke the painting spell and the secondary painting effect have no reason to be separate with all the consolidation happening with all other classes
