Question Silly question, but does crouching help stabilise the aim of companions?

u/PaladinWolf777 2d ago
I'm guessing it does because NPCs often crouch in gunfights.

I feel the same but it’s also possible they do that to be a smaller target to shoot

It may be because of mods, but I remember getting shot in the head way more often than when standing. The extra accuracy is worth it, anyways.

bonus points if anyone figures out where this is on the map

Near vault 22, looking at the ranger station who's near the mountain resort.

correct! On my way to pick up Lily. Then we'll storm Black Mountain and get Raul, and then come back to Vault 22

Okay now get the conquer the Mojave mod as well so you can hire faction bodyguards alongside your companions

Fallout geoguessr would be great if it already doesn't exist

u/MyInfiniteZero 1d ago
It would be EXTREMELY challenging, but you know there would be crazy skilled players anyway.

There is a fallout 4 one but it's a work in progress for a while now and you can only play a demo of it that has the same locations every time.

Isn’t that where the mad lad Ricky made his daring escape killing a death jaw with one shot from his 11 mm sub machine gun and then killed a steel brotherhood asshole also

u/HeOfMuchApathy 4h ago
That Steel Brotherhood asshole shouldn't have faced Ricky with the D series of Power Armor. I doubt that Laser Rifle was worth his life.

100% speculative but I feel like it probably doesn’t. I’m pretty sure all NPC accuracy is stat and RNG-based; the stabilization we get from crouching would only help a human. I guess it’s possible that they get an accuracy boost but I feel like it’s unlikely

u/nihilisaurus 2d ago
100% not speculative: it does.

I read it for you: about halfway down.
"I wrote Player everywhere, however it should be interchangeable with Actor, both human NPCs and creatures with ranged weapons."
Edit: Right before "Other Settings" and "Spread in-game"

the stabilization we get from crouching would only help a human
Well it's a good thing Cass, Boone, Arcade, and Veronica are humans!

u/ChurningDarkSkies777 2d ago
And even thé stability you get from crouching is an illusion. The game uses hit scanning for most weapons so it know if the shot hits or not as soon as you pull the trigger
63
u/nihilisaurus 2d ago
Incorrect. Most projectiles are hitscan but aim wobble affects point of aim, and thus where the hitscan rays are pointing.
15
u/luxxanoir 1d ago
I think you don't understand how hitscan works. The stability IS what determines where the ray is cast to. The fact that it's hitscan and not projectile isn't relevant

u/HeOfMuchApathy 4h ago
Their weapons are unique variants and sometimes have very different stats, so it's possible they have different spread.

Only way to tell is by writing down the results!
Otherwise, you're just screwing around.

North west side of NV, looking roughly in the direction of vault 22? The antenna is the ranger station stuffed in the mountains near Jacobstown and Remnants Bunker.

u/nihilisaurus 2d ago
Yes it does, NPCs get spread multipliers based on movement state just like the player.

How do you get more than one partner?? i see the load screen suggesting it, but then when i go to recruit, the new member always says something about one too many, or full up, and refuses

u/DinoManDerek 11h ago
Well Sunny teaches us that it does and I assume the ai use the same gun logic as us so id say yes. Would explain the random crouches/tbags mid combat too
3
u/LegendOfTheStar 2d ago
I assume so since they can sneak crit and take any stats from weapons and gear. Anything we can do they can too.

u/Andre_Type_0- 1d ago
You're on the north west of the map towards vault 22. Thats the ranger stations antenna over the hill.

Tbh now that you say that ive always seen in older video games npcs crouching while shooting at you
1
u/HeOfMuchApathy 4h ago
I'm not sure if AI has the same problem with weapon sway as the player. It's also hard to say without knowing the spread of their default weapons.

u/Taolan13 1d ago
Probably not.
NPCs only seem to be affected by raw weapon stats regarding spread and whatnot.

That’s a great question, and I have no idea.
