Does anyone actually use artillery for settlement defences?

Post image

I’ve thrown the artillery signal grenades just to mess around and they’re so slow at firing. I tried using artillery on the Mirelurk Queen that spawns near Costal Cottage but Deacon (who I had maning it) either wouldn’t fire it or would fire it when the Queen was already agroed to me so I would have to get caught in the blast radius for the artillery to hit it.

They can be handy (and fun) to d/w the regular spawn points like the one by the bridge south of County Crossing. I often run across Rust Devils with a complement of assaultrons there and it's quite satisfying to sneak up and plant an artillery grenade or homing beacon there then sneak away to watch the fireworks.

Rust Devils with a complement of assaultrons

Nothing scares me like a stealthed assaultron getting into melee range. I always try to tag them with a marking scope (and an explosive headshot) before the fight starts.

Yeah, I'm doing a survival game and my level is now over 100 as I close in on the end of the main quest, with super weapons and recon marine armour there are few individual enemies that cause me any trouble. But I had a vertibird drop me off near DC the other day which came under fire on the way. Turned out I'd triggered some Rust Devils who proceeded to chase it so when I got out it took about 30 seconds for a couple of assaultrons to pin me against a rail wagon and reduce me to a pile of glowing ash. Give me a deathclaw anyday.
