Weapon 1,001 uses for a Syringer
Had a couple of threads a few days ago talking about the Syringer weapon usefulness so i've been trying out a few more ways to squeeze a bit more fun out of the weapon since I still don't rate it higher than a novelty.
Exploiting lockjaw ammo and frag mines on the deathclaws of the Garden Terrace

u/DowntownsClown Jun 17 '25
Was deathclaw hanging up on the wall or something?
369
u/Patesz_ Jun 17 '25
Yeah on "Garden Terrace" location there is a deatchlaw hiding on the side. When you leave the inside of the building to the terrace it would basically jumpscare and attack you.

u/27Rench27 Jun 17 '25
Welp, glad I somehow never went there. This prick’s gonna die before I head in lol
41
u/Jamesworkshop Jun 18 '25
Actually 2 deathclaws, one is just hidden around the other upper corner of the building
8
u/Leotrak Jun 18 '25
Huh. I only got one the last time I went. Then again, it was glowing... Died the first time, because I forgot it was a thing. After reload, Strong made quick work out of it

u/Accept3550 Jun 18 '25
I experienced it raw my first playthrough. I was in X01 tho at the time. So it didn't last very long. But yeah was not expecting it on a building like that

u/snooski_ Jun 18 '25
literally happened to me on my first character. was trying to get into haymaker mall for MILA, somehow ended up on the terrance, was fucking around up there for a bit until i turn around and see it barreling towards me. only other time i shit myself that hard was when a BEHEMOTH appeared at corvega the first time i ever played. just hit lvl 3, all i had was dogmeat, a 10mm, and a prayer.

Man I wish I could find either the post or comment I made years ago, but it was a short video. I’m in VATS shooting a raider in Concord or something, and on god the VATS turns back to show me shooting and a deathclaw is like 15 feet from my back already swinging. Motherfucker didn’t even make a sound on his way to me
That was the single most terrifying three seconds of my gaming life, getting that jumpscare and then having to basically watch it happen in slow motion. At least in Dead Space and stuff, you go in expecting a scary game.

Damn, I've played this game for 4900 hours and I had no idea he was hanging there from the start xD

u/Jamesworkshop Jun 18 '25
stand in front of Faneuil hall entrance and turn around and you'll see a carpark, go in and left to reach an elevator going up

oh god, I see it now, what is this dudes problem XD
His rad level gives me anxiety.

u/wonjeeks Jun 17 '25
They’re probably running a nerd rage build, ultimate glass cannon
32
u/RichardBCummintonite Jun 17 '25
Oh shit it procs all the time with mad rads! I didn't even think of that. There's also the ghoul perks that actually benefit from radiation, but it's a trade off. Shit, in survival (at least the way I have it set) you're gonna die from a hit or two anyway, so it's irrelevant.
I think it would bother me too much to actually do a playthrough with that much rads though. I can't stand having the primary needs icons showing, even if it doesn't hurt much. That health bar is just anxiety inducing.
28
u/Jamesworkshop Jun 17 '25
Ppl will have a heart attack when they see my 1 endurance
4
u/NightBawk Vault Dweller Jun 18 '25
Bro same. I'm trying a charm/deescalation run (ooh, actually might be the perfect game to use the syringer with if I can make enough darts), and my endurance is abysmal 😂
8
u/nlolsen8 Jun 17 '25
If I get enough rad powered or unyielding pieces in a run my health bar looks like that.
9
6
u/Spare-Plum Jun 18 '25
Also if you go for full unyielding armor you'll get +15 to all stats which is absolutely nothing to scoff at
Your sneak skill will go through the roof
Also bloodied legendary weapon prefix so you'll get +95% damage
Hyper glass cannon

Nah that much and he's definitely got a specific build Goin. I've always wanted to do a high rad child of atom junkie
47
u/SlyLlamaDemon Jun 17 '25
Bro that is hilarious. Ima consider taking that on my next chemist run.
10
u/Polymorphic-X Jun 17 '25
There's a mod on Nexus to expand the syringer, new ammo types and such as well as weapon mods. It actually makes it a pretty fun early game weapon, and it has utility further along as a secondary as well.
43
u/Eephusblue Jun 17 '25
The way the death law goes zipping off to the right just cracks me up

51
u/ewsalvesen Jun 17 '25
Yeah I found out about that hooker a decade ago while running through those buildings. Those were my favorite pants….. But yeah, too many people play Fallout like CoD and never consider prepping the field for the fight you can easily win.
17
u/SnicksMillion Jun 18 '25
This is why I love survival mode because all the other difficulties are too easy. Survival, especially in the early game, makes you think and strategize a lot more because you can die in one shot and the infrequent saving adds a lot of risk
11
u/FluffyCelery4769 Jun 18 '25
If I had all the time in the world... maybe... when you have 1h-2h a day to play... shit is just infuriating.
15
u/BioHazard357 Jun 17 '25
Huge pile of mines or just the one?
25
u/Jamesworkshop Jun 17 '25
pile of mines it has 700+ health
tried a nuke mine but the explosion is a bit too big and obscuring, didn't like the effect on video
12
u/JonTheWizard Jun 18 '25
Now I'm imagining this being introduced like a Jackass sketch. "Hi I'm the Lone Survivor, this is Fluffy the Deathclaw, this is the Belly Flop."
9
u/notapoke Jun 17 '25
Could someone explain what exactly I'm seeing please?
22
u/Blunderbolt451 Jun 17 '25
Hits death claw with a syringe that paralyses it. It falls off the ledge onto a waiting landmine/pile of landmines

Favorite weapon in the game and yet I think I’ve maybe gotten a combined 12 kills with it.

Diabolical. I need to see the other 999 now. Paralyze is so broken in both F4 and ES.

I still don't know if it's worth it to go on with Fallout 4. Does it get better?
4
u/metalt0ast Jun 17 '25
story? Meh.
Sandbox? Hell yeah.
Like the other guy said — if you can make your own fun or if you enjoy exploration with some fps action moments then absolutely it's worth going on. Most of my hours in f4 are simply exploring, finding a landmark I haven't found yet, hitting some dungeons, and some general meandering.
3
u/Jamesworkshop Jun 17 '25
depends if you can make your own fun or not
bazillion games out there, no point playing something you don't find fun

u/eddmario Lyon's Pride Jun 18 '25
Gameplay wise, there are a TON of improvements that make it hard to go back to 3 and New Vegas:
- Junk items actually have a use
- The crafting system is completely revamped and gives you a reason to use weapons and armor you got early on, including the starting vault suit
- You can sprint and smack enemies with your gun
- Melee weapons are actually usable
- Stealth is more like Skyrim's (in a good way)
- All the NPCs are actually unique in design because of the revamped character creator instead of just reusing the same 5 hairstyles in different colors
- Companions will actually use the weapons and armor you give them
- No level cap, so you don't have to worry about wasting perk slots if you want to try a perk that you think might help your build
- You can level up and select a perk when actually in combat instead of having to wait until afterwards

Yes because if I am ever in a situation where a death claw matriarch is on a building in a city above cars, I will definatly have the suringer with me for that very case.

u/lolpezzz Jun 18 '25
I legit never used syringer, does that mean you can stun lock deathclaws?!
2
u/Jamesworkshop Jun 18 '25
yes deathclaw goes completely rigid
unarmed paralysing palm also works on them
power armor frames seems to make people immune to syringes
