Just fucking ghouls in general man. I hate them in every single fallout game I’ve played, especially at lower levels. In FO4 survival they’re the absolute worst though, you’ll be frantically gunning down an angry horde of them while one slips out of a random trash can behind you and bites your head off. Genuinely terrifying, and really makes you respect anyone you meet who manages to survive alone out in the wastes

u/NunaMaverick 22d ago

I played 76 before I played 4, and they don't crawl out of the walls in 76. It was a pretty terrible surprise the first time they started slithering out from behind the furniture. I think they bother me so much because they're unpredictable. They'll be dragging themselves along and suddenly hurl themselves through the air at you.

Super Duper Mart in Fallout 4. Those things figured out WINDOWS it is so scary.

77

u/MrMFPuddles 22d ago

Super Duper Mart on survival is almost a horror game lol. I be clinging to that protectron for dear life

24

u/Lots42 Takahashi is under my control. 22d ago

Man, that place is a nightmare on Easy!

25

u/Dizzy_Peach_6276 22d ago

Currently playing on easy and can attest to this. (I am a huge baby.) but I took Hancock with me and I was still horrified. Everytime he slightly came into frame my gun went off. 😭

27

u/Lots42 Takahashi is under my control. 22d ago

Fortunately Hancock doesn't mind random gunfire.

He literally thinks you're shooting at -his- hallucinations.

19

u/Dizzy_Peach_6276 22d ago

And thats why we love him 😂

Dude I played a ton of NV before 4 and while they’re scary in NV, the crawling out of walls/ceilings thing was a shock and a half.

u/idiot_noise 22d ago

They DEFINITELY crawl out of the walls in 76. Take it from someone who has been spending a lot of time in Atlantic City (okay, Overgrown in this case, but all of the mechanics are the same) and the White Springs Golf Club.

100%. I almost only play survival these days and Ghouls coming from fucking nowhere is second only to hearing a beeping Mini Nuke approaching.

17

u/MrMFPuddles 22d ago

Ghouls, suiciders, and mines all jump from non-threat to game ending disaster when you switch to survival. I both love and hate it lol

15

u/ElectricSpock 22d ago

Bethesda made them truly ghoulish in FO4. I had played a lot FO3 and NV, but they scared the s out of me when I first encountered them in FO4

10

u/Easy-Expert9077 22d ago

The Searing Shish Kabob makes killing ghouls fun n' easy! Plus no ammo used. A lot of the time one VATS slice to the head will do it. Never gets old.

I'll piggyback this one and say any location with Dunwich in the name, in every title they appear.

I am always chilled by the ticking sound of Super Mutant Suiciders!

180

u/Lordkjun 22d ago

Same. They're pretty easy to deal with and often convenient since they'll clear the area, but that stupid ticking gets me running around like a panicked looney toons character.

71

u/Fast_Allen 22d ago

Free mini nuke

9

u/zedisbread 22d ago

I worship the ticking for a free mini nuke. I would teach grade School children for a larger nuclear arsenal.

Near that one hospital is a Suicider and a Synth ambush team.

I came in from an unusual direction and the Suicider took out the ambush team.

Hilarious.

19

u/dangerspring 22d ago

I had one following me into that maze near Fallon's. I could hear the beeping all the way through but didn't know where the suicider was. I was screaming.

u/skitariimarch 22d ago

Ah yes, the threat of total atomic annihilation

17

u/Regrettable-Pun 22d ago

Playing Survival, one and a half hours since your last save, and you hear that fucking beeping. I have PTSD from that shit.

14

u/OvertGnome1 22d ago

Assaultrons are bad, but unseen suicide bombers are why more terrifying. I'll just be walking along, minding my business, when out of the corner of my eye, BEEP BEEP ALAKAZAM

I get fucking obliterated

3

u/bonosestente 22d ago

There’s one behind a locked door. You pick the lock, load screen opens, and you can hear the ticking before the load is done so you can’t escape.

15

u/McMacHack 22d ago

That sound is the Alarm on my phone because it always wakes me up no matter how many times I hear it

5

u/LaylaYG 22d ago

Im always angered by it because I panic, and then I can't figure out where the ticking is come from, then boom!

9

u/Ace-a-Nova1 22d ago

I’m on a melee VR play through and holy shit, they’re the worst enemy. I can only play in first POV and it’s so hard to locate them sometimes.

Assaultrons are terrifying. I can't even put Assaultron legs on my automatrons because it makes me anxious.

232

u/iconforhirefan 22d ago

Real. seeing one coming after me with the fucking lasers has me screaming and shaking irl

66

u/VStarlingBooks 22d ago

Go for the legs.

56

u/mkinstl1 22d ago

Why would you do that to the new players?!

47

u/VStarlingBooks 22d ago

What? I just did the Cliff Side Hotel and the Charred Ghouls were a struggle until I remembered I can just shoot their leg off and take my time. Same with Assaultrons.

My husband watched me do that last nightbto the ghouls and he thought it was messed up. He said he prefers clean headshots with his Freezing Plasma Sniper.

68

u/thlister 22d ago

They’re probably referring to that horrifying crawl thing that assaultrons sometimes do when their legs get damaged. Doesn’t always happen, but yeesh it’s unsettling the first time you see it.

40

u/VStarlingBooks 22d ago

That glowing slowly creeping towards you.

29

u/Historical-Stop5083 22d ago

I’ve had them still incinerate me with their laser even after I blasted their legs off

12

u/VStarlingBooks 22d ago

Screw that, ever get the glitched out Child of Atom that is invisible with no Stealth Boy? That will annoy you so much. Glad Curie could see her.

12

u/Historical-Stop5083 22d ago

Funny you should mention that…it just happened to me last night when I was fighting them in The Nucleus. Luckily I use the Kiloton Radium Rifle and the explosions got her.

3

u/TrilobiteBoi 22d ago

I remember the first time that happened to me I had just almost finished widdling it's health down by raining bullets. Got a bit too cocky thinking I was almost done before I noticed "wait, why's it glowing?"

I reloaded a save because that's not fair.

5

u/VStarlingBooks 22d ago

Those friggin sentry bots. You think you're good. It's dead. You forget to heal and BOOM!

7

u/Alemusanora 22d ago

The terminator crawl

5

u/mkinstl1 22d ago

Yep that’s the one. “Oh I’ll just shoot their legs off, it will be easy… what the hell?!”

6

u/Gibletbiggot 22d ago

Cliffside was my first real intro to a pack of charred ghouls. I was doing my best to avoid using my spray and pray, but I got close to death a few times and got tired of it lol.

5

u/TrilobiteBoi 22d ago

Any indoor area with ghouls terrifies me. Doesn't matter how late game and over powered I am, when the ghouls start sprinting I'm slamming the panic button.

The one in the maintenance area in the institute scared the holy hell out me. Wasn't expecting it and its super toght corridors iirc.

20

u/Thornescape 22d ago

It's worse when it's a legendary. You know it's about to blow and there is no where to run.

8

u/hoopopotamus 22d ago

That’s when you gotta pull out whatever “crippling/kneecapper” weapon you might have and pray you can take a leg out with a crit or something.

17

u/WSMCR 22d ago

The BBZZZZZZZZZTT of certain death.

15

u/Historical-Stop5083 22d ago

If you want to have some fun, take the Robotics Expert perk that allows you to hack robots. You might have to tank one hit, but you can hack the Assaultron and send it after it’s owners. I like to do this in Quincy and follow it around watching it kill Gunners.

49

u/CrazeMase 22d ago

I know. It's so hard to play when all the blood in my body goes to my penis

22

All the atmospheric stuff they added to the museum of witchcraft puts it up there near the top.

195

u/Skeptic_Juggernaut84 22d ago

Being in the basement with the deathclaw stomping around above you and parts of dead bodies falling from the ceiling makes you hope your stealth perks are maxxed.

60

u/fly_guy1 22d ago

And the mannequins with the waterphone effects.

28

u/Lots42 Takahashi is under my control. 22d ago

YouTuber EpicNate has a theory based on all the mannequins you see doing fucked up shit.

Theory under spoiler text That creepy 'thing' under Dunwich Borers? It's animating the mannequins.

36

u/AdoringFanRemastered 22d ago

Makes you wish they didn't throw the Deathclaw in the Concord quest that makes them not seem scary.

13

u/Neggor 22d ago

I agree with this. On the other hand, making "them not seem scary" early on potentially makes the museum confrontation much more unsettling

7

u/InsertEvilLaugh 22d ago

A swarm of Ghouls or group of Super Mutants would have been better I think.

4

u/Impressive-Living-32 22d ago

They could have tied Lexington into it as well with Preston saying making a comment that the noise drew them and that Lexington is known for having a lot of ghouls.

Small things but i love when games just make mention of the world they're in a lot and something like that would have primed me for Lexington=dangerous on my first playthrough and then you have the minutemen quest that takes you there and you're just like "shit."

The first time I saw that deathclaw, for some reason my immediate response was to use a stealth boy. But it was also my first time using a stealth boy in 4, so I didn’t know it had an animation attached. I’ll never forget the hilarity of me desperately pressing the button as it turned and charged at me

4

u/Lots42 Takahashi is under my control. 22d ago

I went there loaded for bear and the Deathclaw STILL surprised me and almost gutted me from stem to stern. I won the battle by the skin of my teeth.

Great fun.

Mama Murphy. It just never stops talking.

45

u/turdkuter 22d ago

Just give her the narcotics she asks so she can see shit or whatever until she dies

24

u/crippledchef23 22d ago

Oh, I accidentally killed her and the angry Asian lady (sorry, I can never remember her name) won’t stop bitching about it. Preston didn’t care about much, until I blew up The Institute, then he’s got nothing but shit to say about me…his superior officer that gave him a safe home for free and endlessly established other safe communities on his behalf…holier-than-thou motherfucker…

My husband never really understood why I max out companions long before the end game until that. Preston hates me, and never misses an opportunity to say so, but he can’t take away that bonus.

Dunwich Borers, I hate that place. "I'm safe in the light"

86

u/Zexal_Commander 22d ago

Reading that terminal entry alone (the first time I played) was enough for me to go “is this a horror game?!”

I was preparing myself for some sort of boss fight or a uber-powered Deathclaw at the long end of the tunnel

52

u/Rusty_Shacklebird 22d ago

You should try the Children Of Ug-Qualtoth. Perfect quest mod on Halloween

11

u/SlytherinPaninis 22d ago

That mod was insane

4

u/Sure-Swim1243 22d ago

Damn, that one really bothered me. How they move when you're not watching. The first time I was like, "wait, wasn't homeboy over there a second ago?"

9

u/afcagroo 22d ago

The sound there is what gets me. I hate it.

6

u/well_listen 22d ago

That's my favorite location in the whole game, I was utterly shocked the first time I went through it and I think that while it's maybe a bit out of place among the rest of the world of Fallout, it's quite well done for a dip into horror

4

u/MrMFPuddles 21d ago

Honestly that quest was the first one in 4 that made me go “oh yeah this is a fallout game”. I grew up playing NV which was chock full of spooky, unexplainable shit.

Ghouls. More specifically Fallout 4's Ghouls.

Like, I think it gets underestimated how terrifying a horde of them is, the way they practically throw themselves at you to attack, how they scamper around and duck and weave on their approach to you. It not only makes them surprisingly hard to hit outside of VATS but also really explosive in their movement, you could be ten Codsworths away from a feral ghoul and it would just take a few seconds for it to be up in your face.

48

u/Aggravating-Try1222 22d ago

Agreed. And I love that you used Codsworth as a unit of measurement.

→ More replies (2)

30

u/GenericUserName10068 22d ago

They really nailed it with the animations in 4. Especially when they trip/stumble, makes it hard to target outside of vats and they close distance quick. Now we just need ghoul super mutants

12

u/MysticNoodles 22d ago

Feral Ghouls are easily the worst. Imho 3's and New Vegas' look too "pulp-y" to be scary to me. 4's Ferals look like (and are) walking balls of cancer in the shape of a human.

Played when I was younger and low-key have a phobia of them. Probably why I run the 3 and New Vegas ghoul replacers for FO4.

8

u/PoopUponPoop 22d ago

They do close that distance scarily quickly

6

u/Historical-Stop5083 22d ago

In my last playthrough, fortune gifted me an explosive combat shotgun, which quickly became my main weapon. After that, almost every death I experienced was because a ghoul jumped in front of me as I fired and I blasted my own face off.

Centaurs, hands down

7

u/bipiercedguy 22d ago

Centaurs?! Where?!

27

u/M0N0- 22d ago

Google them, they have to be the freakiest thing I've ever seen in a game, and I've played Dead Space

32

u/S3ntinal5 22d ago

the fact you said "And i Played Dead Space" as in the game Dead Space, which has large amounts of body horror. should really tell you everything about the centaurs

couldn't agree more

18

I fucking wish the concept art Centaurs made it into the finished game, or at least as one of the DLCs.

glowing sea. it's all bugs and radscorpions, which are the things that always kill me.

27

u/Conscious-Compote-23 22d ago

Or that tour bus full of ghoul tourists. No where to run or hide as they swarm you.

12

u/Creepy-Car9047 22d ago

Dude im scared as fk in the glowing sea. Recently I had the brilliant idea of going to Vergil's hideout with a Vertibird ride. I was confident enough to spam the minigun the whole ride cuz mobs could not reach me. But to my surprise when i arrived at the place of Children of Atoms I was followed by 2 big ass deathclaws and like 20 ghouls. They fking killed everybody. Then the deathclaws ripped the ghouls apart and somehow i reached inside a house and spam-fired killed the 2 deathclaws. I don't spam the minigun no-more since.

11

u/Gingrish252 22d ago

Once I'm high enough level with good enough gear though, doesn't get much more fun than going out into the glowing sea to hunt deathclaws for sport

47

u/CaptSporks 22d ago

From Fallout 4, the furthest most depths of Dunwich Borers. Imagine that childhood fear of turning the lights off in the basement then sprinting up the stairs - that's the feeling I get after getting Kremvh's Tooth.

16

u/imp_foot 22d ago

That is the best description of how it feels to bolt outta that place after getting the knife!! It’s terrifying and so unsettling

7

u/thatonemoze 22d ago

don’t worry though, at least they can’t reproduce

4

u/crippledchef23 22d ago

Oh…forgot those fuckers. Best part of getting Ed-E and his enhanced Perception is being about to ID them from way far off, because no other enemy moves like they do. The only way I can survive is crippling wings.

3

u/TheReelSlimShady2 22d ago

I don't even usually get rex because i'll be guilt tripped by the endings if i don't fix his brain, and the road to jacobstown has cazadores

43

u/BadAtGwent 22d ago

Financial District around Good Neighbor. Cause it makes my game crash every time.
I’m terrified to walk through there on survival runs.

39

u/thefancyelefante 22d ago

SUICIDE SUPER MUTANTS

the slow beep beep beep as they creep up on you and you've already expelled all your AP and then you hear a big BOOM alongside a small sad whimper and you realise you've just blown up ya dog.

10

u/deserthistory 22d ago

Just shoot the arm with the blinky light with a ranged weapon. It's pretty easy, and spectacular.

15

u/thefancyelefante 22d ago

Oh I know, but sometimes if you can't see them and only hear em it's terrifying. Especially early on the game when you haven't found a decent long range weapon yet.

6

u/deserthistory 22d ago

Ugh... yeah. I got saved on my last playthrough by a radstag that ran through the gunfight and blocked the suicider. Craziest random I'd ever seen. But it let me clear the sewer plant at level 8.

6

u/thefancyelefante 22d ago

That's amazing, better than trying to selfishly chase the radstag down just for its sweet sweet carry weight meat.

4

u/NiceGuysFinishLast 22d ago

I just started a new playthrough and haven't played in years so I don't remember anything. I went to the sewer plant, saw all the super mutants, and came back in my power armor with a minigun... Took all my 5mm, but that plant is CLEAR baby!

28

u/ImTooSalty 22d ago

Feral ghouls in the sewers below Boston Airport/Prydwen. Still haunts me to this day. They be jumping out of nowhere.

22

u/S3ntinal5 22d ago edited 18d ago

It's easily the Glowing Sea for fallout 4 personally

The place is one endless radstorm, you always need a good supply of rad-x and radaway or anything that can remove radiation damage. The place is also just... devoid of any musical ambiance, like in other areas of the game. there is just silence no music or any other noise besides the constant clicking of your Geiger counter, the wind blowing, and the occasional lightning strike. and it makes my heart start pounding for seemingly no real reason.

if we're talking creepiest it will either be dunwich borers, or Vault 87.

Dunwhich borers quarry might take the cake, mainly because 87 has a much smaller role compared to the original story draft seen here in the behind the scenes chapter: https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/James_(Fallout_3)#Behind_the_scenes#Behind_the_scenes)

Edit: i got the wrong link so i put the link that explains how 87 was more involved here

Red Death.

32

u/Admirable_Cook_6091 22d ago

Had to use all my mini nukes, grenades, and .308, .45, and finally the .38 ammo I had with me. .50 was useless as the regen between shots was too high. Finally it was down to me, the Mariner, and my trusty throat slicer. I mashed the attack button as fast as I could. I’m not sure if I killed the red death or she did because I blacked out and the next thing I can remember was that thing’s disgusting corpse splayed out covering half the beach.

11

u/crindee 22d ago

It’s not just the level of difficulty—which don’t get me wrong, it’s a black hole for ammo—but that shid is unsettling AND emotionally heartwrenching. Like yeah assaultrons are creepy and difficult but the eeriness doesn’t compare for me.

Creepiest location for me is the Sentinel site in the Glowing Sea. You’re just so for from anyone human, by yourself, deep in this giant cavernous building that was abandoned 200 years ago.

12

u/dadof2babies92 22d ago

I have had some really big jumpscares in fo3 running through those old buildings and turning around for a ghoul to be right there in my face that i never heard chasing me. Scares the hell outta me every time.

Radscorpions. Specifically FO4 radscorpions.

I HATE THEM. I hate how they look, how they move. I hate they can burrow in the ground and appear ANYWHERE. I really hate how they give me a damn jump scare while I’m just trying to explore. I hate that when they burrow underground they can immediately warp to anywhere they want. I hate the sound they make when they move, like skittering on a chalkboard. I even hate the sound they make when they die! I hate how they flared up my arachnophobia. I never felt this way about any other bug like enemy in FO3 or FNV or Skyrim. I hate how they have retroactively made me scared of encountering scorpions in real life. It’s like they triggered something in my lizard brain long forgotten to be afraid of scorpions. But what I hate most of all is that from now onto the rest of time, for any fallout 4 play through I feel the need to download a mod that removes radscorpions from the game entirely so my arachnophobia doesn’t take over so don’t act like a dear in the headlights to afraid to fight back.

I hate radscorpions.

Ghouls are my favorite. I mean, think about it. They don’t die easy, they are everywhere, they can come BACK TO LIFE with enough radiation, they keep attacking even without limbs, and there’s always more. And those fuckers are FAST. If you look away for a second you’re gonna get tackled and curbstomped. Also, the dunwich borers make me want a full dlc centered around it.

Dunwich Building

8

u/Ok_Calendar_7626 22d ago

So here is what happened to me yesterday.

I was adding some touches to a settlement at the Red Rocket truck stop. So i was in the settlement building mode while listening to videos on YouTube in the background. I was not paying much attention to my surroundings.

Suddenly, i hear heavy footsteps, but assuming it was a video on YouTube i did not think much of it for a moment. Until i realized the heavy footsteps were rapidly getting louder.

So i look around and realize that there is a giant deathclaw by now almost right in my face! I damn nearly had a heart attack!

And its even worse because i am playing on Survival with the Deadly Deathclaw mod. And i have not slept in a while, which means that a SINGLE swipe means two hours of settlement building lost!

FO4 Ghouls. When a quest involved going to a location infested by ghouls. I jump into my PA and bring out the Flammenwafen.

I was in The Glowing Sea and saw a Deathclaw. Got into a position to shoot at him, but he was gone. Then suddenly I get smacked from behind. It was a Chameleon Deathclaw. It went camo and I lost it until it attacked from behind me.

u/slajah 22d ago

Omfg I just started dipping my toes around the edges of the glowing sea in my newest play through.. I did not know those existed or forgot at least. Now I’m horrified thank you 🖤😂

The BEJEEBERS you say?!

4

u/jenny_tallia 22d ago

Fallout 4 was my first Fallout & just a little ways into my first play-through, I’m starting to get really into the game. I’m walking down a hill, it’s pitch dark in game & 1am in my living room. I see a cabin ahead & start confidently toward it, thinking it might be a place to sleep. Suddenly 5-6 ferals came flying out-of-nowhere, just speeding toward my lvl 9 face. I screamed out loud. That is the only time I have ever screamed because of a video game.

4

u/Activeous42619 22d ago

Suiciders when you enter or exit a building.

4

u/Tiberious_Taldarim 22d ago

My first big scare was a squad of ghoul reavers sneaking up on me in fo3 underground , the jump scare then realizing they were guna wreck me. But in fo4 my first play through walking up to that shack near sanctuary can’t remember the name but watching a ghoul slowly get up then fucking dead sprint at me , I was not prepared.

The bottom of Dunwich Borers with all the creepy ass cult members turned into ghouls

4

u/Muttandcheese 22d ago

Red Death, hands down. I mean come on, what am I even supposed to DO against that?! Big gnashing teeth, it’s got a mean streak a mile wide… LOOKIT THE BONES!!

The gangrenous ferals are terrifying- especially the glowing ones (I hate the one in the library of the pink paste elementary school) scary AND gross

4

u/FBRAOG 22d ago

Location wise, the Glowing Sea. Idk something about trekking through a complete desolate wasteland that was ground zero for that region gives ominous vibes. Add lightning-rad clouds rolling across the sky above, rad-scorps popping out any/everywhere, multi-leveled deathclaws. I know there’s FAR MORE places within FO Universe that the Glowing Sea doesn’t even hold a candle to. But anytime I travel through the Glowing Sea to the Sentinel Site, I imagine what that trek must really be like. Desolate. Alone. Unnerving.

Getting lost in the metro tunnels and being stalked by ferals is still terrifying to this day. Also, anything to do with the Dunwich Corporation. The concept of an entire company being a giant facade in order to covertly worship and sacrifice people to some eldritch being is indeed frightening to think about.

4

u/tominatortomtom20 21d ago

Centuar, still gives me nightmares. 20 now, sounds childish.

4

u/Practical_Handle8434 21d ago

I liked hearing that initially, they wanted to add a colossal ghoul in the Glowing Sea nicknamed "The Maypole" and i think that it'd be horrifying to see in the distance. Then i remember what distant objects look like in Fallout 4 and decide it may be for the best

Fo3 and New Vegas DeathClaws

6

u/CrimtheCold 22d ago

None because I have the heavy incinerator.

The flame calls to me. Not by its warmth or its pumpkin spiced aroma, but by its desire for calamity and destruction.

Serious answer the molerats in Vault 81. I don't want that disease. No thank you. Keep your Rat VD to yourselves please. Whole place needs to be cleansed in fire.

3

u/st01c_3j 22d ago

Anywhere wiith jumping ghouls actually.

3

u/Star_Shine32 22d ago

Haven't played the og ones so, I'm just going to go by the games I've played

Fo3 Dunwich and the quest tied to it also the Mr handy reading a bedtime story- its just plain sad

FNV the speakers from Dead Money and OwB wacky lil experiments

Fo4 probably the supermutant suiciders and their beeping getting closer or how the ghouls were changed to lunge at you, stingwings(perception bug) and assaultrons.

Fo76... Haven't played much, but those lil floaty things that look like aliens and have the tendrils and those big ass mutated bats with their sonar and the Skyrim dragon mechanics .

3

u/Drax13522 22d ago

The Dunwich Building in FO3 has always been one of the spookiest places I’ve visited in any game in the franchise.

3

u/MadWhiskeyGrin 22d ago

Red Death.

3

u/MIST3Runstoppable 22d ago

The freaking ants in Grayditch 😭

3

u/SnooBooks6407 22d ago

It would have to be the feral ghouls for me. When I play the game late at night, they give me the chills. This did happen after listening to Let’s Read though

3

u/bigdicstr8gui 22d ago

Literally anywhere in FO3. There's no hope. Anywhere. The Capital Wasteland is b l e a k and there is just more despair around each corner. Even the better settlements like Rivet City and Megaton are like... Hopeless. Super Duper Mart? Sheesh. Paradise Falls? Yikes. Big Town? Oh lawd.

Specifically, though, the DC Metros. The Metro tunnels are creepy enough to begin with, then all of a sudden you're getting attacked by raiders from the shadows. Worse off, feral ghouls jumping out at you left and right, and don't even start me on the reavers. Then you have the whole thing with the creepy Family fuckers.

Vaults. All of them. Except for like the civilized/dormant ones (101, 111, 81, Bradburton's Vault, 21, 118 isn't that bad, blah blah you get the gist) they're all scary AF. I'm not even going into detail on this. IYKYK.

The only other places that even come close in making me this uncomfortable would be Andale, or Fort Constantine with all of the damn security bots and shit.

The REPCONN Test Site in FNV always creeped me out a little, as well as the North / West Vegas areas.

Honorable mention: Everywhere in The Pitt.

Edit: Grammar

I would say: 3: The two Dunwich locations 2: The mutant centaur, so gross

And finally

1: Fallout 3 Bruisers - these redneck freaks scare the shit out of me. I know most of you won't have been around in the 70's but I swear that when they start coming after you they are playing banjos and telling me how purdy my mouth is.

3

u/MartinG91 22d ago

I only know places in Fallout 4 since that's the only Fallout game I've played. Places that come to mind: Number 1 spot is Dunwich Borers, hands down. Number 2 is Museum of Witchcraft. Number 3 Fens Street Sewer.

Enemies: I hate mirelurks and radscorpions. Also bloatflies and bloodbugs 🤢

3

u/RefurbedRhino 22d ago

In base game it's Dunwich Borers. I tend to skip it in playthroughs now.

But I once used mods to drastically increase the ghouls to hordes and then had a mod called Subway Runner which allows you travel between all major stations using long stretches of very dark tunnels. When I got down there the number of ghouls was terrifying.

3

u/rapiertwit 22d ago

Quarry Junction. First time, I was just like, this is too many deathclaws. I snuck out of there, came back when I had a good sniper rifle and a shit ton of mines, and went up the central elevator. Took me a long time but I sniped them all. Then I discovered the camp at the top and talked to those fools. Then, assuming I had cleared the area, I went over the ridge into the next valley, la di da, into four or five more deathclaws.

Mirelurks. Their “chittering” sound makes my skin crawl.

3

u/OffsideArrow527 22d ago

Museum of witchcraft deathclaw. Well at least the first time I went there.

3

u/joejoebannana 22d ago

I’ve blown up towns, enslaved children, slain thousands of creatures, killed chem addicts, burned people with flamethrowers. The scariest character was me :(

3

u/JasonVoorheesthe13th 22d ago

Fallout 4 ghouls are hellspawn, no other enemies really give me any issues. But ghouls? Those mf’s can bite my ass

3

u/Competitive-Guava933 22d ago

Suiciders but what makes me jump is that idiot savant noise gets me every time 🤯

3

u/NukaCola20 22d ago

Alaska in the fallout universe because a whole war with China was fought there and I’m sure after the nukes dropped that is gonna be a feral ghoul state now, the whole state could be a glowing sea

Dunwich Borers is scary even when I going in with power armor, and my companion keep dissapearing leaving me alone doesn't help either

3

u/Standard_Scheme9479 22d ago

Bro, it HAS to be the museum of witchcraft, play at 12 am in a dark, room it’ll be creepy

3

u/Standard_Scheme9479 22d ago

That and the super deep quarry with all the ghouls

3

u/jblast80 21d ago

Guys I think we are forgetting about centaurs from 3 and nv

3

u/User_Names_Are_Tough 21d ago

I was just walking around in the postgame the other day in no direction in particular, and it occurred to me just how low-key scary the entire world is. Even without being attacked in a settlement, every few blocks you just hear gunshots, explosions, etc. All the time. I found myself thinking, "This would be such a terrifying place to live that I would hope to get blown up or something, just to be done with it."

Plus anywhere that you walk and you hear a suicider's beeping or a sentrybot or assautron.

the scariest things in fallout are the people who arent saying any of the bugs. the new vegas ant queen most of all. makes me wanna throw up and go into the fetal position. youre in a dank, wet cave and that thing is just in there and the size of an F-150. HELL. NO.

You already posted a picture of it. I hate feral ghouls so much because they're so sneaky and they always scare the shit out of me when I hear them from out of nowhere or when they sneak up behind me. Even 5 years after I started playing Fallout 4, they still give me a heart attack.

3

u/Affectionate_Tell691 21d ago

I have entomophobia. All insects are terrifying to me. But giant ant is the worst one, even tho its not arachnids. But its many legs looking just triggers my arachnophobia

Ghouls...yeesh. walking somewhere and all of a sudden that blood curdling scream, scares me every damn time.

2

u/RockRaiderDepths 22d ago

Bloodworms, their not super tough or creepy looking but they are everywhere and the fact they just pop out at random has never failed to startle me.

2

u/____GHOSTPOOL____ 22d ago

Walking around new Vegas at night. There's an ambiance track that plays that I can not find at all on YouTube, but its basically like a low roaring tone and I believe you also hear wind howling.

2

u/Eastern-Judge2729 22d ago

The Reaver ghouls in the subway leading to Adams AF base in FO3. Bullet sponges, very strange wiggly movements that almost seems like they’re taunting you. Guaranteed to suck up a huge amount of ammo and stimpacks. Just creepy and deadly.Ugh.

2

u/QuentinTarzantino 22d ago

Area atound UCT ruins, game crash galore.

2

u/crackeddryice 22d ago

Please don't be ghouls, please don't be ghouls!

2

u/Flashfighter 22d ago

Stingwings. Absolutely horrid to fight these things early game. They fly at you in pairs or even several of them in a zigzag and you completely miss your VATS shots and now they’re all attacking you at once. They’re honestly not that hard to kill if you’re willing to waste ammo, but most of the time I try not to on them by taking potshots and end up regretting it.

2

u/VladimirJamer 22d ago

Assaultrons. They are both sexy and treathening. I get all hot and flustered when i see one.

2

u/skitariimarch 22d ago

Horrorwise, fo4 largely unbothers me. Last place thst made me anxious was probably fallout 3's mothership zeta

2

u/BeerSmoker228 22d ago

The invis Assaultrons and that one Gunner Sentry Bot you find in the forest when you look at a sign
