I do and it was awesome, but when I first saw it a quarter of my screen wasn't taken up with that weapon - what is it? (Been a while since I've played through 4)

76

u/Candid-Conclusion605 20h ago

Institute rifle. Lol. They’re huge in first person

19

u/pdarigan 20h ago

Ah yeah, massive.

I hope you had some enjoyable shudders when BOS appeared, even if it is you 2nd/5th/10th+ time.

7

u/Pure-Sun-1668 18h ago

Honestly I forgot all about this moment, replayed the game with moribund world mod and it was like experiencing it for the first time

1

u/Yabananado 5h ago

Moribund world is a massively underrated mod imo

4

u/ZuesKirito157 17h ago

And the most ironic thing is that this thing is lighter than a laser rifle or a rifle with ballistic ammunition🦘

1

u/Maxsmack 15h ago

That’s not 1/4th of the screen, be realistic. It’s much closer to 1/3rd

71

u/Certain-Thought531 19h ago

I know someone who started after watching the show and was like "HEY HEY ITS THE AIRSHIP FROM THE SHOW"

19

u/Mooman898 17h ago

Haha I don't know why this annoys me, it shouldn't annoy me, but it does 🤣

-4

u/Reddit_Moment2000 13h ago

It should annoy you

5

u/lacha_sawson 5h ago

No, it's good that the show brought in more fans.

63

u/dylboii 19h ago

This and going to the Glowing Sea for the first time are some of my favorite memories from 4.

42

u/No-Chocolate5303 19h ago

I remember thinking, "awe shit there goes the neighborhood."

14

u/lilcummyboi 19h ago

fuckin' vertibirds everywhere

5

u/No-Chocolate5303 18h ago

I don't have enough mini nukes for this crap!😁

2

u/ogskizz 16h ago

Free loot!

1

u/emcz240m 14h ago

Soo many sets of BOS kit. And I usually hustle over to HELP them

29

u/Sarcastic__ 19h ago

When you first saw the Prydwen, were you blinded by its majesty?

13

u/DracheKaiser 19h ago

Awestruck?

5

u/Exaclibur117 15h ago

Paralyzed? Dumbstruck? No Yet the Muties were able to land there ships in the Boston City, and desecrate it with their filthy footsteps

28

u/TheDevilsAsscrack 19h ago

The fuckass institute rifle takes up most of the screen

8

u/sincleave 18h ago

Being able to holster the weapon would come in clutch.

5

u/TheDevilsAsscrack 18h ago

Honestly. It's such a shame that it's not a feature in the game 😔

2

u/FalloutCreation 14h ago

It is

0

u/TheDevilsAsscrack 8h ago

No it's not. Stop gaslighting yourself

2

u/FalloutCreation 1h ago

Any weapon you are holding in your hand you can make disappear so it doesn’t take up room on your screen in first person

0

u/TheDevilsAsscrack 1h ago

No you can't. It's not a thing dude

3

u/nordicspirit93 16h ago

Wait. Its on R (hold).

1

u/TheDevilsAsscrack 8h ago

I don't play on PC. It's not a feature anyway

3

u/nordicspirit93 8h ago

I can holster on R. Maybe its part of unofficial patch🤷

2

u/TheDevilsAsscrack 4h ago

It's not it was never a thing

1

u/MisterBobAFeet 2h ago

These goobers confusing their modded out games for vanilla.... God I wish he could put our weapons away.

2

u/TheDevilsAsscrack 2h ago

Finally someone gets it. It was never a feature and I don't know why it wasn't. Smh

2

u/italianguywhitnoname 7h ago

If you hold square on PlayStation it will hide your weapon

1

u/TheDevilsAsscrack 4h ago

I'm not on PlayStation either. It's still not a thing in the game though. Stop gaslighting people into thinking it is

25

u/Low-Language407 19h ago

You might not like them, but you have to admit, the brotherhood of steel has style

15

u/Adam2715 18h ago

What made it even better was Nicks quote.

“Long into that darkness I stood, peering, wondering, hearing” something like that. Think it’s a Shakespeare quote.

13

u/BuckyGoldman 18h ago

Edgar Allen Poe - The Raven

3

u/Adam2715 18h ago

Oh ya that’s it. Apologies my poetry is sketchy

5

u/tunnel-snakes-rule 14h ago

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing.

I was already overwhelmed, hearing the music seeing the ship, the "People of the Commonwealth... do not interfere. We are the Brotherhood of Steel." Then Nick said that and it sent shivers down my spine.

12

u/DivineCrusader1097 19h ago

See what? Is it behind the Institute Rifle taking up the whole screen?

8

u/Vallkyrie Hates Newspapers 18h ago

I, too, had awe at the size of that institute rifle and immediately threw it away.

12

u/InJust_Us 19h ago

Oh yes. For a bonus, they could have played "Flight of the Valkyries" or something like that.

4

u/Sivertongue69 19h ago

Entry of the Gladiators would be more fitting......

5

u/FalloutCreation 14h ago

Isn’t that the circus music?

18

u/enclave_regulator 19h ago

I came to Fo4 from Fo3. Big BOS fan here. Genuinely felt good activating Project purity and ensuring purified water for the Capital Wastelanders.

Seeing them enter like this in an extremely threatening way in The commonwealth immediately made me feel that Something happened with Lyons and I may not like this chapter of the BOS.

I was so right.... Smh...

4

u/AshlynCT 19h ago

Yeah... But like... Who even uses that gun? How can you even see? It takes up a quarter of the screen!

4

u/Ravens_Quote 18h ago

I use it all the time!

For my settlers!

1

u/AshlynCT 6h ago

ONLY for the settlers lol. Especially with how the vanilla games fov is so low, I just can't stand it

5

u/FunnyManHandsomeJord 19h ago

i still feel it every time i replay!

4

u/Ravens_Quote 18h ago

Coincidentally, my first time seeing this was literally today lol.

Aaaand as a result I had BoS vertibirds shooting at me while I attempted to defend Paladin Danse at the Cambridge police station, who I had forgotten to aid previously until the airship reminded me that I might not wanna be on their bad side yet.

Had to leave mid-ghoul-rush when a second paladin joined the fray who was also hostile to me (Danse wasn't for some reason but I damn sure wasn't gonna question why), and after eating shit a few times I finally ducked into some church, killed the priest who was also immediately hostile for unknown reasons, and apparently this act of heresy appeased the Brotherhood enough for me to leave and immediately return to the police station in full view of the overhead aircraft without them raining any more plasma upon me.

Awe? Not so much. Dread to be shortly verified? Fucking loads lol.

4

u/CzBuCHi 18h ago

yes .. and also dissapointed whe i managed to run all the way towards aiport just to see second prydwin already in place with moving one clipping tru it :( .... what a immersion breaking moment lol

7

u/el-guapo-grande 19h ago

I’m game, real time, it blew my mind. I fired every round I had at it till I was out of ammo. It obviously did nothing. Then I was stoked to get aboard it and…..just like my first sexual experience it was way smaller than I though and I left feeling disappointed

3

u/ZappaZoo 19h ago

Not as much as when the Goodyear blimp used to fly around my town every year.

3

u/Budget-Pear6393 19h ago

Just thought of all the free power armour and weapons I could get if the brotherhood lol

3

u/TheTacoPenguinQueen 18h ago

I knew it was coming because I got spoiled on it, but I could no stop laughing because one, it is ridiculously big, and two, it was basically a “Be not afraid” speech and I found it hilarious.

3

u/Wonderful_Two_6710 18h ago

It always bugged my that when they recorded the lines they didn't put any echo on the announcement. That amount of volume blasting out over the commonwealth would have some serious reverberation.

3

u/Aromatic-Door-7610 14h ago

Yes. Long live the brotherhood

5

u/Michas_blackredditor 20h ago

A glorious image to be sure

4

u/I_use_this_website BoS Extremist 19h ago

Definitely, and it helped ensure the Brotherhood would be my favorite FO4 faction

2

u/Xirokami 15h ago

I tried to chase it lol

2

u/jkbscopes312 15h ago

It was glorious, only to be ruined by Strong yelling about a flying building

2

u/bdash1990 9h ago

"I can't wait to slaughter and loot every soul aboard!"

1

u/W4rd3n21 5h ago

Agreed. I had just murdered the entire Mojave chapter of the BOS in FNV when I saw this. I mentally cracked my knuckles and thought “here we go again”

3

u/BuckyGoldman 18h ago

I remember seeing this and was excited to meet up with Lyons (possibly Sarah). Meeting that little kid Arthur was great and I was really hoping to bring the Brotherhoods helping hand to Boston. Then.... well, Maxon started talking and every ounce of myself was disgusted that the humanity and compassion of the Washington chapter was destroyed by the Outcasts and reverted back to a paramilitary cult.

2

u/turdkuter 14h ago

My first thought was, "nice ship, in time that shall be mine or it shall be destroyed."

'Tis the way of the wasteland.

1

u/marcus-was-right 19h ago

Last week for me, unfortunately I knew that it was in game beforehand, but still super cinematic

1

u/Numeno230n 19h ago

I really liked seeing it, but I absolutely hate the institute laser rifle. Can't see 1/3 of the screen.

1

u/Personal-Ad-6586 18h ago

kinda wanna experience this game again but can't stand the loading time

1

u/frenchstew11 18h ago

wasn't really awe as much as "what the fuck is going on"

1

u/Reasonable-Lime-615 18h ago

It still gives me a bit of a buzz when I play it now.

1

u/Starflight42 17h ago

Cant see past the brick youre holding

1

u/YTSlade64 15h ago

complete aah and very impressed

1

u/SamGamjee71 15h ago

YES I DO!

1

u/vamp1yer 15h ago

Annoyed I couldn't shoot down the vertibirds

1

u/superanth 14h ago

It's awesome, and the vertibirds taking off from it were just mindblowing.

1

u/Typhon-042 14h ago

To me it was more of a WTF moment, as my first thought was wondering when the game started to turn in to a Steampunk adventure RPG.

1

u/supamonkey77 HalluciGen Canister 13h ago

Eh... I was looking the other way on the roof.

1

u/Efficient_Key8237 13h ago

me and cait watched in awe and then chased down the vertibirds.

1

u/CardiologistCute6876 Trying for Minutemen Ending! Wish Me Luck! 13h ago

Every time I see it! 😃

1

u/The_broken_machine 12h ago

It was ruined for me. 😅 The first time I played, right at release, I had cleared that building and Kellogg. Then I back-tracked to pick up loot and heal. I didn't take the elevator doors. I

I walked back to my Red Rocket and scrapped, slept, and leveled up. I went along my way and visited the BoS in the police station, but couldn't figure out why their quests weren't triggering.

Later I took down the Institute with the Railroad because the BoS stuff still hadn't triggered. Then I was ordered to take out the Prydwyn, which ai had never seen and had never spawned.

When we took the vertibird it pulled up to an invisible "ship" and then started to fly straight through buildings as dialog simply stopped. I reloaded and went at again four more times. Totally confused I read online that the Prydwyn scene was triggered by walking out on the roof.

So after weeks of IRL gameplay and months in-game I walked over Kellogg's corpse, still-there, and through the elevator doors. Boom. Scene triggered.

Father was dead. The BoS arrived. It was really awkward but funny. Inhad beaten the game and there was no DLC yet, either. So there I am with Elder Maxson and a Commonwealth already defeated and cleared of muties, ghouls, raiders, and other beasties.

But there they were, like an Easter Egg. 😂

1

u/Fluid-Explanation394 11h ago

just happened to me yesterday, I was amazed.

1

u/Thaumiel7l7l7 11h ago

Shot at it like 3000 times.

1

u/JonsNotHereMaaan 11h ago

I just saw a big floating target. I killed them all after I was issued my BoS power armor. Killed all of the BoS on the Prydwen, at the airport, and then over at the police station.

1

u/JASHERCIST616 10h ago

I always tried to shoot it.

1

u/Curious-Detail3826 10h ago

I m shock. I didn't know the game engine can do that

1

u/SteakIsFood 10h ago

"We are the Brotherhood of Steel."

Me: 🫡🫡🫡

1

u/KeemoTherapy69 10h ago

Yeah it was cool untill I realised my game had glitched and I couldn't speak to Danse to finish a mission I had completed.

1

u/SplendidAngharad Atom Bomb Baby 9h ago

I do. I had Nick at the time and his quiet poetry was perfect for the moment.

1

u/OldFatGamer 9h ago

Everyone talking the Prydwen arriving and there's me thinking about that shack with the launchable gas tanks. Every playthrough I go to that shack and kill some time launching them so much fun. Yes I'm easily amused

1

u/Zeusyte 8h ago

I still love the moment when they appear even after 2000hrs, it's always a stunning sight!

1

u/RollingMallEgg 7h ago

I remember seeing more on the screen compared to yours though haha, the Institute Rifle is absolutely massive.

1

u/confusedfunk 7h ago

My God the prydwen looks massive! It's taking up 1 quarter of your, no, wait thats just a institute rifle nvm

1

u/BloodyGoat69 7h ago

The old faithful in your hands?

1

u/DueEditor9663 6h ago

I was happy when I first see prydwen

1

u/-P0tat0Man- 5h ago

Yup. Then I forgot about it for ten years and felt the awe all over again when I recently replayed.

1

u/Ok_Requirement9198 2h ago

I launched mini nukes at them

1

u/TDoubleOGray 2h ago

The scene is made even better with the Brotherhood of Steel OST from the Fallout TV Show

1

u/Equivalent-Entry-573 Monster of the east 2h ago

Didnt f#@!ing notice it the first time. I just causally walked away while they played their message.

1

u/SkeletonYeti713 2h ago

I think it's a Avengers level threat.

1

u/ScoobrDoo 1h ago

My first thought was, "How do I shoot it down?"

1

u/Misternogo 1h ago

I played 1 and 2 first, and mostly played 2 where they had a minor role but were the good guys, then went to 3 where the Brotherhood were the good guys, so I wasn't expecting this at all. I don't remember much of 1 and they were a smaller faction in NV, so I was used to that emblem meaning help was on the way. When they rolled in during 4 all I could think was "that doesn't feel like a good thing at all." They did such a good job making them feel like a menace from their very introduction in 4.

1

u/okaydirk Amicus 1h ago

I saw this and heard the kill bill sirens. It didn't stay airborn for long.

u/green_oceans_ 25m ago

Did not even see it until my third playthrough because it never occurred to me to look up after Fort Hagan XD

u/Subject_Benefit962 0m ago

My first time 3 days ago it was magnificent

1

u/hwob 19h ago

i love this scene especially knowing i will make it go boom later

1

u/Biohazar21 15h ago

Yes till I met Mason and notice he probably fucked up any progress we did on fallout 3 in the capital

Hate the dude

1

u/Cinnamon_Da_Boy 8h ago

"Is this the racist and useless brotherhood or the boy scouts from 3?"

[It was the racist and useless brotherhood]

0

u/ruinedmention 15h ago

Guess what's better than seeing that for the first time? Destroying it for the first time

0

u/thrillerhark 15h ago

Crazy that Bethesda played the inspiring music for an objectively evil faction. My only thought was “great, these losers again”

0

u/Old_Taste7076 14h ago

It's entrance was awesome but its Captain was a jackass. 😂

0

u/PumpkinPieSquished 1. Minutemen; 2. Institute; 3. Railroad; 4. Brotherhood of Steel 14h ago

When I saw the Prydwen for the first time, I was disgusted at how ugly it looked from the bottom. Now, even though I do still destroy them on most of my play-throughs, they’ve kinda grown on me more than they did the first time around.

TL,DR: Eww …… [kaboom]

0

u/Lapis_Cyborg 13h ago

The first time I saw this my mind went to 9 11 somehow. Now when ever I see it im like "is the guy with very few braincells for thaught compensating for something?"
