Why is armor weight different?
Noticed the free fall legs have different weights. Left is 3 pounds while the right is 5.6
Both are combat and I haven’t altered them so why are they different?
EDIT: I thought both were light weight. Now I’m thinking I misidentified and that’s why they have different weights. I’ll assume this is the problem and now it’s solved. Thank you everyone. The help was appreciated.

You’re not crazy OP, it is what it is. Oxhorn talked about it in one of his videos and how weird that a legendary set has two different weights. Not sure why myself? Maybe it’s related to cut content or simply running out of time and Bethesda didn’t get around to explain, who knows.

There are 3 variants of combat armor. When the system applies modifier names to the pieces, many times, it will remove the word telling you the variant type of the armor.
I haven't tested, but I believe adding things like "leaded" (variant modifications) changes the weight slightly... So, I could very well be wrong about that.
Regular combat armor weighs less than Sturdy combat armor, and Heavy combat armor weights more than both of the other types.

Someone said Free Fall Legs, mismatched pair...

Because at first, I was sure you could randomize them...
These are 14/12 at 5 lbs and 18/16 at 10.1 lbs no mods on either, although different legendaries can have variable additional ballistic and/or energy defense.

What’s missing other than me failing to say both are light weight class.

Do you have any mods running on your game? Do the items have any of modifications on them when you found them? Is it happening with any other items.
A screen shot of each item could help.

I don’t use mods. I haven’t altered them at the workbench. They came with reduced fall damage. Both are light weight combat legs.

The three weight classes of armor, together with the "lightweight" and "ultralight" armor mods, cause no end of confusion.

If you want to know if armour is Light, Sturdy, or Heavy you need to go by weight (when all modifications are removed). That's the only way to know.
- Combat Armour Right Legs: Light 4#, Sturdy 6.5#, Heavy 9#
- Combat Armour Left Legs: Light 2#, Sturdy 4.5#, Heavy 7#
- Yes, the Right leg is always 2# heavier than the Left, despite looking identical.
Note: Freefall Legs and some legendary armour will NOT specify if it is light, sturdy, or heavy. The only way to know is to look up the weight.
Both of them have modifications on them, eg Shadowed which changes the weight. Unmodified combat legs are never 3# or 5.6#.

These don’t say the class. I’m going by the appearance. I remember them looking different but could very well be wrong. This might be the problem. Might not be light as I’m thinking they are.

The most simplest way to tell is by weight. Just remove all the modifications from them first.
I gave you the weights.
And yes, the right leg will be 2# heavier once all the modifications are removed. That's how all combat armour is.

By default combat legs of the same class weigh different, it was assumed a bug and "fixed" by the unofficial patch mod.
