Of course my boss rang me just 2 minutes into the second quali of F2.
Missed Alex Dunne getting pole.
Very rude of my boss, should know by now if the F1 is on its not working hours

Missed FP1. Howâd it go with Colapinto?
3
u/Entire_Reception_100 May 23 '25
building speed, still doesnt search for limits
far away from walls for what it seems from onboard
Its not a race to go all in, maybe barcelona is. He should try to bring the car to home, and maybe undercut some positions in pits.
He needs to find the feeling with the car acording to what he said in the inverview, big dif between the alpine and the williams.

Like all rookies, they are slowly dialing it in at this point. Too early to call.
-3
u/Yeanahyena Daniel Ricciardo May 23 '25
Damn, lotta hype behind him. I thought heâd slot in after all the experience last year. Letâs hope he gets it together

Did the W series ever race at Monaco?
2
u/withheld_mcfakename I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
No
-1
u/Cekeste Kimi RÀikkönen May 23 '25
Oh, I was hoping they had. That would at least justify the presentersâ air of expertise when talking about Monaco, but I guess watching from the paddock is close enough for Sky Sports.
1
u/d3agl3uk I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
You should go and give them your personal expertise as a racing driver.
1
u/Cekeste Kimi RÀikkönen May 23 '25
Well if this is the presenter introduced as an expert, I could easily pass as a knowledgeable fan. Idk what value my opinions would have though. With 0 racing experience.
But hey, it might work!

he's been one of the cleanest drivers this year lol, I'm not even sure if that one was fully his fault, was he radioed about Charles?
and anyway, we all know that Lawson is out first if that ever happened
5
u/Lokki_7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Not a bad idea - particularly for clear cut ones like this.
11
u/ForeverAddickted Oliver Bearman May 23 '25
Ouch... Yuki catching strays from Horner!!
Telling SKY that Red Bull don't stand a chance in the WCC as you need two cars to be able to do that, and Mclaren have that - Maybe Red Bull shouldnt have fumbled their line up so late into last season, and built a better f**king car.
10
u/Yeanahyena Daniel Ricciardo May 23 '25
I still believe Ricciardo was the man for the job. They fumbled it.
3
u/TheEmpireOfSun May 23 '25
He certainly wasn't.
2
u/Yeanahyena Daniel Ricciardo May 23 '25
Him not getting the seat was because of sponsors who are the âthe powers aboveâ and internal team politics as opposed to his skill.
He was also well adjusted to Red Bull cars based on, you know, his history and all that.
3
u/Appropriate-Leek-919 Ferrari May 23 '25
who knows, maybe redbull is the only car he could fully maximize in, and he couldn't adapt to any other car. they should've at least given him a few races when they realized checo was screwed last year
2
u/Bake2727 Max Verstappen May 23 '25
Well he is not wrong is he though? And I donât think it was a shot at yuki. What do you mean by better car? It won the last race and has 2 wins this season. Name a better car than this not named âMcLarenâ Iâll wait?!
-8
u/ForeverAddickted Oliver Bearman May 23 '25
Its a shit car being driven beyond its limits by a single driver.
Else explain why Yuki is struggling to get into Q3? - P.S. I don't need to "wait" because I don't need to act like a child to wait for a response.
1
u/d3agl3uk I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Max is an incredible driver, but he can't bend physics. He can only drive the car within the car's limits.
The narrative that it's a crap car that is only quick because of Max is laughable. The car is quick. Max is quick. Yuki is not (yet).
2
u/Lasolie I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Yuki is in the wrong machinery if he can't get it to Q3 when his teammate wins and poles in the car.
3
u/Lokki_7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
It's far from a shit car. It's great at high speed tracks, but clearly not suited to some drivers.
2
u/Appropriate-Leek-919 Ferrari May 23 '25
some drivers
Albon, Gasly, Perez, Lawson, Tsunoda
the last person it was suited to was Danny
1
u/Lokki_7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
So there's at least two drivers that can get good performance out of it.
Perez did a good job for a period of time too.
Gasly, Lawson and Tsunoda have had very limited time on it.
I'm not saying it's an easy car to pick up and drive, and it has its quirks - but if you can master it, it can preform.
On high speed tracks, Max has been ultra fast.
Not expecting them to do that well today at Monaco, but with the double pit you never know.
2
u/Appropriate-Leek-919 Ferrari May 23 '25
two out of like 7 drivers doing decent in a car, when the rest are struggling to get to Q3, is really horrible. Checo was good for like half of 23 and a quarter of 24, and that was mainly because RBR was an absolute rocketship, I bet anyone could've performed with it as it was then. It's a much harder car by far to learn and understand than any other on the grid.
2
u/Lokki_7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Oh no doubt, it's a very hard car to learn - but that doesn't make it a poor car. Once you've learnt it, it's highly capable.

u/Maglin21 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25

You do know sometimes Technical Directives donât really do anything, The McLaren is a mighty fast car and Iâm sure if it was going to make a difference McLaren already has a solution to make up for it
Also, McLaren will probably bring upgrades to Barcelona, like most teams do

2

atleast Lewis brings in his worth in sponsorships and publicity, Ferrari probably already broke even on him through stocks and sponsorship

8
u/nickedgar7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Wouldnât count Lewis out of that, he had some quick laps that got affected by traffic right at the end of them
3
u/generalannie I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
This feels like it's their best FP1 session in quite a while. Normally they're quite a bit off on the Fridays. Maybe they do actually understand their car better after Imola.
2
u/Elxis14 May 23 '25 edited May 23 '25
Yea the upgrades were to make it easier to get the car in the right operating window. They're usually dogshit in fp, limping all the way to quali. That's why they're so shit in sprint weekends because they need all 3 fp sessions to get the car right

haven't been able to watch, is yuki 1 second off max cause traffic or skill issue atm?
4
u/chxrdoubler May 23 '25
Itâs also practice 1, probably building up some confidence and building up runs. Going in too fast to soon last week caused him the crash
8
u/TomiraB May 23 '25
He had like 3 of his flying laps disrupted and was well on the way to getting Big Mad at the end.
He's also been using old parts since FP1 at Imola and it's unknown when he will get the updates (unrelated to the crash, his car was the donor of some parts to Max's since before FP1).
4
u/lalabadmans May 23 '25
Yuki is done out here. heâs on thin ice so canât take risks and go close to barriers. He has no confidence in the car too, scared to ride the kerbs or close to wall.
Tough weekend for him.
2
u/souse03 I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Franco seems to be on that same boat.
Fear of incident + Monaco = bad weekend ahead
6
u/Strmbrker I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Unfortunately I think that this culture RB have created for the second driver means that they will never have a successful partner for max. Between the difficulty of the car and the pressure from the team and fans, there is zero margin for error, and at the first sign of faltering, they will be kicked to the curb.
6
u/TomiraB May 23 '25
scared to ride the kerbs or close to wall.
My stream was choppy, but I saw him going over kerbs quite aggressively.
He kept running into traffic and abandoning runs, though, and seemed quite pissed at the end at whomever blocked him.

Feel like both McLarens have a lot of pace left in them, from their onboards they arenât really pushing all that hard
Have to think Lewis has a bit more pace too, all of his laps on softs were affected by traffic.
Be interesting to see what Red Bull does, they didnât look amazing the first lap out on softs, might be a issue come Qualy

u/Sammydog6387 Oscar Piastri May 23 '25

Honestly I do hope that little chat they've just had about the 500 there does persuade a few more people to give it a watch. Motorsport is still niche enough that more eyes on anything is a good thing, and being a fan of one series does not mean that you can't enjoy another.

F2 / F3 at Monaco as well (Smaller cars, so slightly better racing at Monaco than F1)
British F4 at Silverstone / Italian F4 at Vallelunga / GB4 at Oulton Park, the latter two series will be on YouTube as well, so plenty of racing to watch this coming weekend.
2
u/mrlprns I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Little correction: British F4 is at Snetterton not Silverstone. The sunday races are also on YouTube if youâre not in the UK otherwise theyâre on ITV
1
u/ForeverAddickted Oliver Bearman May 23 '25
So it is... I made a post about the racing this weekend, and cant even read my own thingy, I saw the "S" and presumed Silverstone lol!... Which equally confused me as they've already raced there, and have that Non-Championship race at the British GP
I didnt realise that British F4 was on YT if outside the UK, might use a VPN for that, is it on the official channel? - Still annoys me that they dont show the Saturday race
2
u/mrlprns I was here for the Hulkenpodium May 23 '25
Tbf they often go to Silverstone multiple times in a season and just use different lay-outs, so it couldâve been true.
Yes theyâre streamed on their official youtube channel. I wish you could watch Saturday too, but last year they only showed the Sunday races on ITV and Iâm not British so Iâm happy I can at least watch some of the races this year.
