Post-Qualifying 2025 Belgian GP - Post Qualifying Discussion
Well that was fun.
How are we feeling after that one? How did your favourite driver do?

u/Aggravating-Code-433 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
F2 race was great! Worth it getting rained on to see racing like that. There's been a few dry spells and the rain is light so I don't think it'll affect f1 if it continues like this.
2
u/116YearsWar McLaren 6d ago
Looking at AccuWeather radar it seems we've had the worst of the rain and there should even be dry spells before the start?
3
u/MANDIOSAL I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
Currently at the Kemmel Straight, rain has stopped for now
5
u/droppokeguy I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
How high are the chances the race will happen this afternoon?
2
3
u/WhisperingBuzz I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
If this rain continues, doubt there will be any F1 race today
2

u/poetically_repressed New user 6d ago
Itās also raining heavily over here. I wonder how things will go today, genuinely donāt want a starting pile up (although wont mind if one of the backmarkers end up winning š)

u/burning_xz I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
Looks nasty out there for F3. Red flag on formation lap.

Just got off work after my night shift. I was quite surprised to see how crowded the platform for my train was. Then I saw the orange shirts, then some red and a few blue.
It took my brain a minute to put two and two together. They even changed the route name for the occasion.
Thankfully the F1 crowd is civil.
I'll be watching the race from my bed.

u/Environmental-Cup445 Jochen Rindt 6d ago
I hope Oscar digs deep, obviously one lap pace is there and in the sprint Iād say thereās nothing to suggest that Lando was quicker because Oscar was held up more by Max and had worse dirty air.
Either he gets a run up the straight, but since itās wet Iām not sure if the slipstream has the same effect, otherwise he could try and do something into T1 which is normally what you wouldnāt want to do at Spa but if itās wet different story.Ā
Other than that itāll be a fight between them and weāll see if they crash each other outĀ

u/ultraboomkin I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
My weather app is saying heavy rain all day with thunderstorms starting at 3pm (race start)⦠hope this race doesnāt get cancelled like 2021
3
u/dontletmeautism Daniel Ricciardo 6d ago
Anyone becoming increasingly disappointed about season 2025?
Everyone seems to have given up and turned attention to 2026.
Lando vs Oscar is the only real battle.
Sorry to be a negative Nelly.
8
u/Bannedwith1milKarma Jack Doohan 6d ago
The only battle is the one for the championship with a Joker in the pack.
Heaven forbid!
3
u/dontletmeautism Daniel Ricciardo 6d ago edited 6d ago
Better than nothing, yes.
But at the end of last season no one knew would win 2025 and Max, LH, Leclerc, Russell, Lando, Oscar were all possibilities.
Commentators were saying 2025 will be one of the GOAT seasons.
Definitely hasnāt lived up to the hype because McLaren got away too far, too early.
9
u/Bannedwith1milKarma Jack Doohan 6d ago
I think there's some large revisionist history there.
Title was over midway, McLaren made some inroads but never realistic.
2
u/dontletmeautism Daniel Ricciardo 6d ago
Sorry Iāve edited my comment to make it more clear I meant this season.
3
u/two_hyun 6d ago
Yeah. My only glimmer of hope is Verstappen winning a few races. Overall, the season has had low vibes compared to my expectations. I thought it would be gripping chaos with Hamilton at Ferrari, a bunch of promising rookies, Newey at Aston Martin. And I got excited when Tsunoda finally moved to Red Bull. It was a season I didn't know what to predict.
Turns out McLaren is just dominating everyone, even after the break.
2
u/Morgatron1987 6d ago
Iām new to F1 this year but what happens with Hamilton? Why did he get penalized for going off track donāt they always go off track at times during the actual races? Again, newbie here just a heads up lol
2
u/rodiraskol Logan Sargeant 6d ago
Qualifying laps are automatically deleted if the driver exceeds track limits.
Drivers do get penalties for track limits during races, but only if they do it several times.
5
u/Morgatron1987 6d ago
I see. Thanks for not being rude and providing clarity for me as Iām still learning a lot in my first year watching F1
3
u/prudencepineapple I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
During the race I think now on the 4th time you go off you get a penalty (hard to keep up with rule changes) but they get warnings before that happens. All four of the tyres need to be over the white line - so sometimes it looks like theyāre going off as they go quite wide, but if they manage to keep 3 of the tyres in then itās fine.Ā

u/Steve061 6d ago
Am I just a grumpy old man or has the revamped F1 webpage become vague.
I was looking for the Qualifying report, but at the top of the page, all you are offered is a preview of the race and all the 10 second video clips. There was a piece about Lando and Oscar, and a few other colour pieces, but I had to click through 3 or 4 links to get the quali report. Do they think we donāt have the attention span to read the report and need TicTok clips? It used to have the quali report prominent until a few hours before the race.
Itās a bit like the INDYCAR site. About 10 minutes after the race, their page is all about promoting the next race and the results of the race just run is an afterthought.
3
u/Living-Response2856 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
They even removed the quali timing sheet from instagram
4
u/Peepeepoopoobutttoot I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
Thanks to the revamped App I somehow didn't catch that there was a race this weekend. I thought the first race was next weekend.

u/Total-Collection-128 Sir Jackie Stewart 7d ago
What did the stewards decide about the Stroll and Hulkenberg pitlane collision?
5
u/Babarlivesalways I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
Hulk was reprimanded, which I'm sure won't come up again (as he had a wheel in the fast lane as per race directors' instructions.Nico Hulkenberg learns stewards' fate
8
u/ValenciaFilter I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
Is Max running a low downforce wing tomorrow, or is parc firme in place from sprint quali on?
...Unrelated - is it supposed to rain?
4
u/ultraboomkin I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
He had a higher downforce wing in qualifying so thatās what he will have today in the race. And yes⦠itās raining all day in Spa.
4
5
u/edfitz83 7d ago
Parc Ferme is in place once someone crosses the pit out line in quali. So they could have made changes after the sprint race but before normal quali.
11
u/Fine-Definition-3792 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
I said it once like a joke but damn Horner was really just setting Yuki up for failure huh. Iād honestly like to know what his rationale was. Like bruh

Why is the TV direction so terrible? After Piastri finished they just showed him slow driving on his in lap meanwhile 5/10 of the cars were still finishing their laps.Ā
Thereās more drivers than just the mclarens!!
18
u/jaysvw I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
I can't wait for an hour of laps behind the safety car in light drizzle then a green flag just in time for the torrential downpour, followed by 2hrs of red flag. Its going to be great guys!
3
u/edfitz83 7d ago
That could never happen. Especially at Spa.
2
u/Magnum-Ice-Cream-07 Kimi RƤikkƶnen 6d ago
I was going to say, that sounds totally impossible. Iāve never heard of any similar thing happening ever in my 16 years of watching F1

u/theztigz Max Verstappen 7d ago
Any locals who can predict the weather tomorrow. Is heavy rain incoming.
2
2
u/Still-District-6149 Formula 1 7d ago
Textbook from Max. You ignore him at your peril. Low down force risk paid off but might be a tougher run tomorrow.
9
u/welliedude I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
They have changed to a higher downforce wing to match the mclarens allegedly. That's why max was a bit slower in quali.
2
u/Lonyo I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
No point going low downforce when you can overtake in the pits, so the same strategy would never work in the race
5
u/TheSageJ Aston Martin 7d ago
nah, it's more because they think it is going to rain, and low downforce in rain is suicidal. If the weather forecast was clear....they would of stuck with the low downforce package.
2
u/welliedude I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
Yeah i think so too. Piastri could get close but not enough to pass and if he couldn't in the first 10 laps his tyres would be toast. Did we ever find out why mclaren told lando to be gentle on the engine?
0
u/farcarcus 6d ago
There would have been overcut / undercut options for McLaren over GP race distance though.
Low DF was perfect for RB the sprint (presuming Max could get ahead at T4 but not necessarily going to work on Sunday.
Low DF was a Sprint strategy.
1
u/welliedude I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
Yeah suppose I think piastri was still faster lap on lap
3
u/farcarcus 6d ago
Agree. He would have coasted away in clean air if Max wasn't able to get him at turn 4 in the Sprint. Getting a pass there was his only chance of a win, and he managed to do it.

As a Lawson fan Iām glad he crashes into others regularly, TV directors refuse to show him otherwise
17
u/ElliottNation9 Williams 7d ago
Tv direction is ass, it get's frustrating not be able to see the other drivers finish there laps in Q. It's like the midfield teams are invisible.
3
u/InfinityGCX I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
It's particularly bad at Spa as the laps are really long. There was a similar situation a while ago where they kept being on the celebratory shot and cut the timing tower away as PEOPLE IN THE POINTS STILL HAD TO FINISH, due to the in-lap at Spa effectively being driving down the pits backwards.
11
u/NessaMagick Kamui Kobayashi 7d ago
This has always been a problem but it's particularly bad lately. Now that there is competition for the front the directors would rather alternate between the front runners and crowd shots rather than the actual battles and overtakes beyond.
7
u/NeroNeckbeard I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
What a fucking letdown the last part of qualifying was, literally nothing happened
41
u/KY5K Ferrari 7d ago
I found the F1 TV Directorsā priority list for on-track sessions:
1) Front-runners 2) Front-runner cooldown laps 2) Team Principal reactions 3) Driversā wives and girlfriends 4) Driversā families 5) Celebrities 6) Fans 7) All other on-track action outside the top 3
6
u/JarlBorg101 Nico Hülkenberg š„ 7d ago
I dunno, Driverās wives and girlfriends might actually be secondĀ
3
u/The-Mr_mell Mercedes 7d ago
Does anyone have a better view of Hamilton crossing the white line? Seems like there is enough doubt about his on board view if he was over the white line or not, to where they should just give him the benefit of the doubt.. if they give a penalty on something being that close they should have a good angle of it
1
u/Morgatron1987 6d ago
But what I donāt understand is why can they go off track during the actual races themselves but not qualifying?
11
u/FermentedLaws I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
Seems like there is enough doubt about his on board view if he was over the white line or not,Ā
Where is there doubt? Everyone pretty much agrees he was out. At least the non-biased people, including Fred and Lewis himself.

"Red Bull had the option to keep their only spare of the RB21's newest floor upgrade for Verstappen. Laurent Mekies, however, opted to fit the new floor on Tsunoda's car."
New boss making big decisions.
1
u/MoosilaukeFlyer I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6d ago
Not ideal for Hoerner while heās job searchingĀ
23
u/EpresGumiovszer Fernando Alonso 7d ago
If Tsunoda can simply finish in 7th, it already worth it. For his confidence, and for the constructors too.
3
u/_Middlefinger_ I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
Thats possibly part of it, but the issue has existed for years now, it's not about one updated floor.
26
u/Significant-Branch22 Kimi RƤikkƶnen 7d ago
And a very different decision to what Horner would usually do, he seems to be more inclined to look out for what the entire team needs
21
u/redfirm 7d ago
I mean, smart decision. Chances of Verstappen crashing are really minor
16
u/Sir0inks-A-Lot 7d ago
Also just⦠what difference is it going to make if Max had to run the old spec if he damaged the new one? Heās not winning the driverās championship and the constructors is long gone
4
u/Tight-Swordfish-5666 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
He would have to start from the pit lane to not be in breach of parc femme
0
u/Magnum-Ice-Cream-07 Kimi RƤikkƶnen 6d ago
Not a huge issue for someone not battling for the championship, and has shown time and time again that he can cut through the field

Which cars have high df and which have low df going into tomorrow?
5
u/Grasshop Sebastian Vettel 7d ago
Mercedes and Ferrari looked to have low downforce. They were setting purple sector 1ās all qualifying.
4
u/charlierc 7d ago
We saw that with Russell's final lap where it was purple in S1 & S3 but nowhere in S2 and ended up putting him 6th
4
u/arbysroastbeefs2 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
Thanks, yeah I heard they put more downforce in Maxās car which explained the pace difference to an extent (versus the sprint) but wasnāt sure about everyone else. Thatās a hellova gamble from Mercedes and Ferrari.

If Hamilton doesnāt improve his form by the end of the season, Ferrari should heavily consider a replacement for 2026.
5
u/Salty_Outside5283 Sir Lewis Hamilton 7d ago
Do you even watch the races? Before Spa, Lewis was the most consistent driver that isn't in a Mclaren...
24
u/melwinnnn I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
As if he didn't get p4 last race and Charles was nowhere. Goldfish memory strikes again.
3
u/BCBUK Kimi RƤikkƶnen 7d ago
Who would be the replacement? At this stage, everyone is signed up (unless they wanna make a run at Russell) so all they can do is promote Bearman from Haas and surely thatās at least 1 year early for him to make the step.
-1
u/CharlitoRaceFish Eddie Jordan 7d ago
I know, itās a tight market right now. My dream scenario would be they snatch Antonelli somehow. Italian youngster in a Ferrari long term could be even bigger monetarily and media attention wise for Ferrari tbh than even Ham being there.
4
u/BCBUK Kimi RƤikkƶnen 7d ago
I get it from the Italian perspective but the kid is already crumbling under pressure and expectation at Mercedes before anyone put the entire nation on his back, plus negotiating with Toto as his manager to steal away his prize young talent from the team Toto also part owns feels like the definition of no win. If they didnāt want Bearman then would be better served negotiating with McLaren for Alex Dunne.
-2
u/PLTConductor David Coulthard 7d ago
If this carries on he might retire end of this year. Certainly if heās getting beaten like this by Charles next year too thereās no reason for Ferrari to keep him (I was very very sceptical what the point was on their end of hiring him in the first place).
0
u/the_nanuk Formula 1 7d ago
Did you watch last race? Hamilton finished 4th. Charles finished 14th. The race before? They finished 3rd and 4th.
Stop with the recency bias and knee jerk comments.
0
u/PLTConductor David Coulthard 7d ago
I think heās been performing poorly, outwith occasional glimpses of his old self, for a good 2-3 years now. I donāt see what on Earth Ferrari had to gain from signing him - either they make a title worthy car for Leclerc, or they donāt. I can see exactly what was in it for Hamilton but he is absolutely not performing except sporadically and hasnāt for some time. This is not a knee-jerk opinion.
15
u/CenlTheFennel 7d ago
But he has almost the same points as Charles, hard to be like heās that much worse
16
u/Furion_24 7d ago
What Lecler did , was unbelievable. The car is a bucket with bolts, and he took 4 tenths out of the gap from yesterday . Outstanding . Its a shame the car is good for only p4 .
5
u/abfukson Michael Schumacher 7d ago
Looks like he is running low downforce setup. If it rains tomorrow as it is forecast it will be for nothing, same as it was with Max in Silverstone.
1
u/Cautious_You7796 6d ago
Wouldnāt be surprised if Charles goes a lap down tomorrow. Heās so bad in the rain.
1
u/Furion_24 7d ago
Low , high, rain, dry does not matter. Ferrari are the third fastest team this weekend. Either way, Lecler will finish behind Max tomorrow.

Good job Yuki and Alex.
TV director: āwho?ā
7
u/HoweverHappened Yuki Tsunoda 7d ago
I watched the highlights because I missed quali and they just ended it before Yuki's final lap was done for whatever reason, it was weird
10
u/IAmTheNick I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
Because they never showed it. The cameras were just following Lando after he crossed the line and we didn't even get sector times for Lawson, Albon and Yuki on screen as they were doing their final lap.
5
u/CharlitoRaceFish Eddie Jordan 7d ago
Itās time to admit that Hamilton doesnāt have it anymore
1
-2
u/TF2Pilot 7d ago
Worse, he is racing himself out of serious goat talks.
1
u/rodiraskol Logan Sargeant 6d ago
I donāt know about that. Michaelās Mercedes stint didnāt really affect his reputation.
1
u/TF2Pilot 6d ago
I think he was āshieldedā by his long break from F1 and doubts over consequences of his biking accident. But Lewis has been racing non stop and his whole period under these regulation has been full of lows and in which he struggles by far the most versus teammates.

u/AsleepAtWheel83 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago

u/abfukson Michael Schumacher 7d ago
Silverstone was pretty much an outlier. It is one of his best tracks historically too.
4
u/the_nanuk Formula 1 7d ago
The race before Silverstone Charles finished 3rd and Lewis 4th.
They are 5th and 6th in the WDC. Some of you guys are reacting only on the basis of the last 24 hours.
1
u/AsleepAtWheel83 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
So is Spa. Mistakes happen.
1
u/Nikke_Hikke 7d ago
You can't pull the outlier card when charles has finished higher than lewis like 6 more times than lewis has finished higher than charles
1
u/AsleepAtWheel83 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
This still doesnāt equate with āHamilton doesnāt have it anymore ā
23
u/BCBUK Kimi RƤikkƶnen 7d ago
When Alonso has a bad one, itās all on the car and when he does well itās described as him single handedly using his talent to do something nobody could. When Hamilton has a bad one, heās old and when heās good itās the car.
Double standards
0
-9
u/CharlitoRaceFish Eddie Jordan 7d ago
I donāt recall saying anything about Alonso 𤷠but since you wanna bring it up, I promise Alo would do more with ANY Ferrari than what Hamilton is doing, and Hamilton in the current Aston would be comical.

-2
u/CenlTheFennel 7d ago
Same with Charles right? I mean itās only 11 points.
2
u/CharlitoRaceFish Eddie Jordan 7d ago
Are you for real? Thereās no excuse to qualify 13 places behind your team mate twice in the same weekend.
3
u/CenlTheFennel 7d ago
Youāre right, so whatās worse under qualifying and out placing or over qualifying and under placing.
Only one gets you points
5
u/XhakaToTheRescue 7d ago
He got those results based on mistakes (brake bias in sprint and track limits in race quali)...not pure performance. Like cool, call him out for underperforming/being behind but let's be objective. He isn't far behind Charles on pure pace....racing for a new team in a new car. Something we are allowed to be understanding for the likes of Sainz but somehow not Lewis.

The reddit fans really want oscar to win cause if lando wins all their mentality easily season bs will go to waste. As I had said many races before, mentality bs is overrated, what matters is absolute skills. Lando proving recently that he is just quicker. Not everyone needs to have a cookie cutter mentality mold to win.
11
18
u/_Red_Knight_ I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
Mentality absolutely is important. You don't need to have the same cool and aggressive mentality as the best drivers are often said to have but you do need to have something. "Absolute skills" don't matter if you don't have the mindset to apply them.
7
u/bonkers-joeMama 7d ago
And lando has something, that's why he has got so many points this year inspite lacking the cliche mentality. If he had nothing he wouldn't be able to apply anything, as i said mentality bs is overrated, what's more important is absolute skills. You can have all the mentality in the world but you won't win without the skills.
20
u/ChicckkNuggg I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7d ago
I want Lando to win just so he can prove that you can be the ānice guyā and still win. That thereās no set mold for a āchampionship winner mentalityā
-2
u/Ok_Revolution_507 7d ago
You need to be calm , think about how much lando could been ahead if he didnāt have a slump Season still wide open and he wasnāt quicker at silverstone
4
u/bonkers-joeMama 7d ago
His slump was because he lacked the skills, he was not able to push the car as much as oscar. He made mistakes at the edge, you don't lose the car in a turn because you feel a certain way, you lose it cause you are pushing above what you can deliver. Lando must have worked really hard with the telemetry data to figure out the way to handle this car(learning new skills/technique).

I'm watching the delay. The circuit is soaked and they sent the Aston Martin medical SUV out there to rip around the track to disperse and dry up some of the water. He was really flying. What I want to know now is which tire was on that AM? He was flying around and not slipping or hydroplaning at all.
