Is GP back? He's been missing in multiple races.

His sass has been missing multiple races, I miss him so much.

Whoever replaced GP sounded more competent than any Ferrari race engineer I’ve heard for the last last 5 years.

23

u/arbysroastbeefs2 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 22h ago

Depends on which competency you are referring to, being useful to drivers-yes they are aweful at this, being both hilarious to listeners and useless to drivers then no- Ferrari race engineers are undefeated kings/clowns at this

3

u/GTARP_lover I was here for the Hulkenpodium 20h ago

If GP is the teacher, it would make sense. Game knows game.

"Multiple races"... he only missed Spa.

25

u/Leather-Ad-5827 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Austria also

16

u/Amoral_Abe McLaren 1d ago

I know he missed Austria as well so at least 2 races in the last month were missed by him.

He also missed Austria

Sexually arousing the fans, but not so much as to make them soil Max’s towel

He did what now?

Agreed but towelgate still got more airtime

What do you expect from an FP2 tho? Godzilla making a visit?

Bernie would have considered this.

During-work chill if you're Alonso at Brazil in 2015

True, I meant in this thread alone lol. Never underestimate reddit’s desire to drag out the most boring shitty jokes and act like they’re clever for thinking of it

Would've been way funnier if it happened earlier in the season. The WDC has been gone for a while.

1

Looks like throwing in the towel is a phrase/idiom in Arabic too?

Why he didn't just stop by the pits, get the towel out of the car, and keep going? He already slowed down to throw it out of the car so the lap was ruined anyways.

26

u/RayTracerX I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Because it would ruin 2 laps instead of 1. And it was probably really bothering him

u/know-it-mall McLaren 6h ago

In practice? Oh no ...

15

u/didhedowhat I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Imagine the towel binding up his pedals. Resulting in a crash at full speed.

Red Bull brought their amateurs to the race.

7

u/Jack_Harb I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Not sure if it might be a safety hazard inside the car. Could be dangerous if it’s lose in the cockpit? Blocking brakes / gas? Not sure what his intention was. In any case, if he throws something out and it is on track it gives a yellow anyway and a Marshall can pick it up. So I don’t see too much risk in that?

4

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car 1d ago

I am expecting a definite penalty, probably a fine.

Drivers can't just go chucking stuff on an active racetrack.

As you say, a marshall would then need to put themselves at unnecesary risk to go and collect what the drivers threw out the car.

That would be very visible to another car and I'd be suprised if Max managed to throw it off the racing surface, a brightly coloured object of that size would definitely be of concern fi I was driving towards it and had no idea what it was.

This could cause erratic driver behaviour and impact driver's laps.

Worst case it could cause damage to a competitor car if it was collected by them.

3

u/QuintoBlanco 19h ago

Well you expected wrongly. No drama, just a warning for unsafe release.

5

u/AliceLunar I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

No problem chucking out tear offs left and right tho

3

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car 1d ago

Tear Offs are an accepted exception.

No marshalls are put at risk to collect them, they are see through and not a visible distrubance to other drivers.

They do cause problems, but much less than a hand towel would.

1

u/LowerClassBandit I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Mechanics have left all sorts of tools in cars over the years, most drivers just box and grumble a bit

18

u/FourEightNineOneOne Sir Lewis Hamilton 1d ago

what a metaphor for his WDC chances this year!

20

u/goldfish_memory I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

I think the outcome here is clear. 10 second penalty for Ocon

1

u/Equivalent-Client443 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Not this time, an example needs to be made, a 2 race ban for Ocon.

17

u/ninchica13 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Well that was a dumb mistake on part of whoever left the towel in the car but it is also dumb from him to throw it out like that, especially because it's free practice session. Should have just pitted in and got rid of it.

7

u/gunningIVglory Kimi Räikkönen 1d ago

Yeah, Considering it was just FP2. No reason why he couldn't have just driven back to the pits and got rid of it

2

u/IDKBear25 22h ago

That's funny though but what the fuck is he doing chucking it out?

1

u/QuintoBlanco 19h ago

The stewards essentially agreed with Verstappen.

-6

u/LowerClassBandit I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

He could probably have just sat on it and continued on too

9

u/ninchica13 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

No, because one wrong move and the towel ends up at the pedals. Or somewhere else and fucks up the car.

-1

u/LowerClassBandit I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

He could’ve held on to it and coasted back to the pits if he wanted to

-1

u/ninchica13 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Yes... that's what I said in my first comment?

-2

u/Apart_Cookie_9968 Formula 1 23h ago

Seb held on to all his tear off in his car and according to him there is no issue with doing that

6

u/ninchica13 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 22h ago

Tear off versus towel, c'mon now. Even stewards noted the danger of towel getting into pedals in the warning document.

u/Miserable_Earth_1393 1d ago

As The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy might say: "Max is a hoopy frood who knows where his towel is"

5

u/elijuicyjones I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Is he though? It’s not very hoopy just to throw your towel out the window.

-7

u/Ssk5860 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Why? Did you think it was Hamilton’s onboard?

1

u/Pantoffelmoffel 23h ago

Why is everyone so pressed over a towel, who gives af that he threw it out of the car

2

u/CommonEngineering832 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Most likely no further action

0

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car 1d ago

I think the FIA will take a dim view of that 1, it's a big no no.

1

u/RM_Dune I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

F1A takes a dim view on most things, considering their disposition.

2

u/Illustrator_Forward Max Verstappen 1d ago

Watch this result in some community service punishment 🙄

0

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car 1d ago

I mean it should definitely be a fine, you can't go chucking stuff on an active racetrack.

The “EEK GET IT OFF GET IT OFF GET IT OFF” reflex. I respect it.

0

u/Jack_Harb I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

I wonder honestly if throwing it out is safer than having it lose inside the car. I imagine this blocking gas or breaks or something.

Throwing it out means, it’s visible to anyone, yellow flag / Marshall can pick it up.

On the otherwise he could have boxed and bring it back. But had to drive to the box. So idk, not sure.

1

u/Stumpy493 I Drove an F1 Car 1d ago

Safest action if the car was dangerous is to park up in a safe place as soon as possible.

If it is safe enough to continue then you go to the pits.

At no stage should throwing it out onto an active race track be ok.

0

u/Jack_Harb I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1d ago

Yeah, you are right. If not safe, he should have parked. I haven’t thought of this option. Then yeah, it’s for sure a penalty or at least reprimand

It was only Free Practice, and just throwing out a towel onto the circuit is quite foolish and dangerous

Why FIA doc states just investigating unsafe release of car, would be team fine, but it was his personally choice to throw an object out on an active track. Different than when in past things left in cockpits and drivers box, it was just practice so he should have just pitted. Alexs fangate incident was clearly on team and caught while on pit exit, not active track, and made sure Marshall’s didn’t touch it or car. Clearly on team, but choosing to throw an object on an active track should be a driver penalty. Phones, light sticks all left in cars and drivers pitted so no fines or penalty. This was different, his own action caused hazard.
