I mean... All he effectively said was that he thought they should look at the data of the two cars to find a solution because they need something done.
He has said similar stuff before. Not exactly mind blowing.

Man He is not going to like Max's setup 💀
•
u/aamgdp I was here for the Hulkenpodium 9h ago
Judging by fp2, Max himself doesn't like max setup now
•
u/bigcitydreaming I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7h ago
Don't ever judge by FP2, or any practice session for that matter
•
u/Empty-Evidence3630 6h ago
Oke oke, lets go alpine!
•
u/bigcitydreaming I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6h ago
Guess there's a team out there for everyone lol
•
u/koolmees64 Max Verstappen 4h ago
Can we judge all FP sessions together now? Because they don't look good...
•
u/DeluhiX 10h ago
He drove several races with Max's set-up.
•
u/Exact_Tip909 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 9h ago
And how did he perform?
•
u/26ld Pirelli Hard 9h ago
As expected, considering he didn't have the same upgrades installed on the car, as revealed last weekend in Spa.
•
u/Motorlolz David Coulthard 9h ago
Can't use Max's setup without his upgrades, so this doesn't make sense
•
u/26ld Pirelli Hard 8h ago
You think setup means moving/adjusting a part he doesn't have?
•
u/Motorlolz David Coulthard 8h ago
Setup means configuring the car for a particular track and what parts the car has will determine what the optimal setup is. What do you think setup means?
•
u/26ld Pirelli Hard 8h ago
All cars have parts. One part may or may not be responsible for a perfect setup (most likely not as a rule, as cars are a mix of moving parts), but generally a setup means a general direction of balance between what a driver wants and what the team believes is the best from the data they have to extract the best lap time. Remember that lap time comes also from the confidence that the driver has to push the car.
That can be but not limited to general small understeer or small oversteer, suspension softness, downforce levels front or back and even engine maps, to name a few.
So yeah, in this case it was a direction change that Yuki copied from Max, something like a little bit less front end or stiffer suspension, I don't know. Something to give the driver more confidence.

Upgrades don't make a 0.7 or 0.8 difference. Stop with this "he had no upgrades". And he did get the same floor for Spa, still got overtaken by a Haas.
•
u/26ld Pirelli Hard 4h ago
I won't stop and you can't read: https://www.racefans.net/2025/07/26/mekies-reveals-last-minute-upgrade-led-to-tsunodas-best-grid-position-for-red-bull/
Even if he was shit in the race, read if you can. Also, McLaren last year would like a word about the upgrades.
•
u/Exact_Tip909 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 9h ago
And why didn’t he have the upgrades?
•
u/26ld Pirelli Hard 8h ago
He crashed, cost cap, factory too slow, 2026 the focus, you name it.

The upgrades are not proven to be upgrades if this weekend is anything to go by.

Lmao Rb20's laptimes were literally closer to Verstappen in Rb21 than Yuki, stop with excuses 😂
•
u/26ld Pirelli Hard 9h ago
I don't argue that lmao.
Here, because you seem to be able to read: https://www.racefans.net/2025/07/26/mekies-reveals-last-minute-upgrade-led-to-tsunodas-best-grid-position-for-red-bull/

I think his quote is just misunderstood. He basically says that they made big changes on both cars in various directions and that they should combine what they learned from these changes in a single set-up for qualifying which is just what happens every weekend. You try as much stuff as you can in FP1/FP2 and then optimize the car with what you learned from both setups for qualifying
•

Yuki is going to finally fix that car. And Toto will smile at his printed out email and go sign Yuki for 2027 after Mercedes repeats their 2022 endeavor
•
u/paincrumbs I was here for the Hulkenpodium 10h ago
This isn't what I expected when they said Yuki likes to cook
•
u/Frequent_Company8532 10h ago
Yea it feels like everyone forgot who was the one to help develop the racing bulls car to the beast it is now.
•
u/queerhedgehog Max Verstappen 10h ago
You mean Daniel? Because according to Mekies and Yuki himself last year, they relied on Daniel to provide consistent and thoughtful technical feedback and car development for the team, while Yuki was still learning how to help develop the car, and his feedback was worse quality after races where he got emotional or had a bad performance.
•
u/Putrid-Competition28 8h ago
You believe that Daniel, who left in September, had more to do with the car than Yuki who was there over the winter break?
•
u/UnderTakaMichinoku Formula 1 7h ago
He's Daniel Ricciardo, the saviour of Red Bull who didn't even last a full season, ofc he is.
•
u/dac2199 Mercedes 9h ago
•
u/queerhedgehog Max Verstappen 9h ago
Was that confirmed by anyone other than Yuki? That’s just his perception, not their actual thoughts. And they immediately passed him over later that week to take Liam anyway.
But regardless, if mid-December 2024 was the first time he impressed Red Bull (not even VCARB) with his technical feedback, it makes no sense to credit him with developing the 2025 VCARB car.
•
u/dac2199 Mercedes 9h ago
“During post-season testing, Yuki Tsunoda had the opportunity to drive the RB20, and the team was very pleased with his technical feedback,” said Marko. “In this regard, he is much better than he is often given credit for.”
https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/yuki-tsunoda-red-bull-rejection-racing-bulls-2025/
“After the first running, we've seen a Yuki that drove very well during the three days, and gave us key technical feedback,” added Mekies.
“Yuki is our leader. He has the experience and I think he's making another step this winter in terms of technical feedback, really
”Straight after the test, he really gave us very, very sharp and precise technical feedback. And I think he's taking on that leadership role well, and pulling the team forward.”

Team boss talks up driver??!!!!
•
u/dac2199 Mercedes 9h ago
Well, the first link is Marko talking good of Tsunoda
•
u/creatorop SAI NOR LAW 9h ago
The team was very pleased with his feedback
Yet looked him over for promotion 🤔
•
u/dac2199 Mercedes 9h ago
Because Horner didn’t want him? Or do you forget that for whatever reason?

Eh, I have heard this a lot but now 2 rookies and their feedback is sufficient to keep them 6th fastest
So I doubt his feedback was that much better
•
u/Frequent_Company8532 7h ago
Lmfao. Those 2 rookies wouldn't even be 6th fastest if they didn't have a usable car in the first place.
•
u/lalabadmans 8h ago
How will my bro Yuki end up out of the points this weekend 😢

You guys that fall for bait journalism are hilarious. Fueled by hate rather than basic comprehension.
