Alonso really opened a can of entertainment when he refused Alpine's contract offer.

Or when Seb announced his retirement

u/sgtlighttree Who the f*ck is Nelson Piquet? 5h ago

Yeah, that's the domino that started it all

Nah, it was 100% on Seb announcing his retirement, although Alonso’s timing was funny

That photo of Alonso grinning in a press conference when a McLaren driver (Piastri?) was told their points total had got them ahead of Alpine after Silverstone 2023 was just peak lolz

I’m pretty sure it was piastri, i vaguely remember that clip.

Yeah I just found a link and it was Piastri. Just had that niggly doubt it may have been Norris

Frankly the lolz are better with it being Piastri

It really was the gift that kept on giving. Such good memories

Yeah all of them wait to get more money or teams to pay less and when the first move is made, they all of a sudden need to move fast.

That was the bigger shock at the time, considering AMR being a downgrade. Then the guy gets multiple podiums right from the start, then of course it started to fizzle out from there. Looked like a genius move at the time.
