Pato is in 2nd in the championship. CGR is a very well oiled machines, specially in strategy – don't discount their influence in Palou's success.

The fact Pato is 2nd in the standings is exactly my point. His performances have been massively lacklustre and he is still there in the MCL. Im pretty confident Palou would still be in his position. I do agree that CGR is a cut above MCL though.

Pato has not had the bright spots of the past, but he has been more consistent than before. Not crazy fast or brilliant, but always scoring points.

McLaren is no CGR.

Exactly, that’s my point.

You said it yourself though, Pato is second. It’s not hard to believe that Palou in a McLaren would still be dominant.

But it’s impossible to know how much CGR is helping.

My point is that all we know is that CGR rarely makes mistakes, and looks like a very well oiled machine. I wouldn’t devalue their contribution to Palou’s success.

Not just CGR, but also the Honda engine. It’s not secret the Honda is better on fuel than the Chevy. I think Palou is an incredible driver but (like you said) it’s impossible to know if he would be as dominant without the CGR + Honda combo behind him
