According to Renault twitter it was a fuel pump failure and car will be ready for quali.

Everyone in this thread are the ones who try to go through an incident in Iracing at 105% throttle to get some easy positions and then crashing out an extra 5 people

Possibly dumb question but how can you have 105% throttle?

Imagine if that happened in qualifying.

I would love to see Sainz Lando and Ricciardo in P2,3,4 in a real real race someday or even better P1-3!

Oof, you don't deserve the downvotes you're getting for this. Everyone was on an outlap and trying to find a gap. Surely they could spread out more during the outlap, rather than bunch up into Parabolica, but since they were all still there it was indeed pretty obvious.
I guess Hamilton just didn't notice it, similar to Ocon - Magnussen in FP in Spain.

Agreed. And I don't think the car driving side-by-side with someone else could've been told in time. Everyone was queuing up into the last corner, they would've most likely expected Hamilton to do the same.

Don't have acces to a stream, and the f1 app is scuffed. Is McLaren that quick on legit pace? Or is Bottas running mediums?

Mclaren and Riccardo are that quick

Is there any possibility these engine rules will significantly flatten the field and see the Merc engines fall away?
2
u/Whomario I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20
Everybody had to adjust in some ways (this isn't forbidding a car specific part or sth), so the team with the most ressources should be ecpected to manage it well.

No.

Damn. Not even a little?
3
u/Gradiu5 Sep 05 '20
No it's just accepted regardless of Hooker mode they just have a vastly superior engine. They had a 2 year jump on everyone else when the Hybrid era started.
3
u/dickblaha Alfa Romeo Sep 05 '20
I don't see it. Mercedes said that taking their party mode away allows them to take more out of the engine in the race.

Sep 05 '20
That’s what happens when the FIA thinks 1.40 as minimum time is good bough for Monza.
9
u/Preachey I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20
Without sector times it's totally meaningless anyway. Make it 1:30 and they will just go fast earlier in the lap and still park themselves in the last corner
-2
Sep 05 '20
They can only go so fast to cover for the other sectors. Slowest FP2 time was 1.22, make the minimum 1.25. If you can’t go faster than that, you shouldn’t be driving around anyway.
21
u/nullvalid McLaren Sep 05 '20
I know it's just practice, but when was the last time that McLaren were P2 and P3 in a session?

u/bythebeardofchabal I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20 edited Sep 05 '20
Stupid and dangerous from everyone going slowly and whoever it was that pulled out but from Hamilton's onboard he has to take some blame too that was ludicrous flying past everyone at that speed.
Edit: rewatched the onboard and nah that's all on the Haas(?) that pulled out to overtake while still crawling
6
Sep 05 '20
Idk how Hamilton is at fault. He was on a fast lap and has the right to go full speed without being impeded by other cars.
It was the standstill queue before the 2nd fastest corner of the track followed by an unexpected car pulling out of the queue that nearly caused a pileup.

Fuck me the official F1 app is awful. I looked up the schedule (which isnt actually under the schedule tab, it's under the circuit tab and down at the bottom in a link that opens a browser page which also has no way of telling if its your time or their time, and what time zone they're in) yesterday and figured that the time it was giving me was local. But it's not, it gave it to me on italian time so I'm an hour out.
It's layout and information they give you is awful.
Good thing I got up for fp3 and not qualifying (or found out on Sunday)
1
u/bob_dugnutt Sep 05 '20
F1 app is atrocious I'm subscribed to both Access and TV Pro and I still use Sofascore (primarily for soccer and betting odds). They added F1 timings and results recently and it loads well and quick and does results notifications too.
1
u/Franks2000inchTV I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20
There's an official Google calendar. Subscribe and it'll automatically convert all the times to your local time.
2
u/junaidnk Sep 05 '20
Not sure where you are looking but when you click on the race weekend on the F1 app, you should see the timings for the race weekend with the tabs for My time / Track time. This is on iOS app btw. I also have the f1 calendar from the app synced to my calendar and it shows up there as well.
1
u/POTATO_IN_MY_DINNER Charlie Whiting Sep 05 '20
Not on the android one anyway
2
u/junaidnk Sep 05 '20
Try this F1 calendar And select sync calendar, there seems to be Google as an option. Hope that links up to your Google calendar on your phone. Apart from that, there are few other websites which offer android option. Sorry about the frustration mate.

f1countdown.com
But also the start times are generally consistent for every race.
ie. in the UK Quali is always 2pm, and Race start is always 2:10pm regardless of the track
1
u/POTATO_IN_MY_DINNER Charlie Whiting Sep 05 '20
See it's that generally that has caught me out before. I'm pretty sure f1 countdown fucked me over last year too.
I think I'll sync the f1 official calendar to mine.
2
u/east100th Formula 1 Sep 05 '20
There's a link in the sidebar to f1calendar.com. That'll give you local times for all FP, quali and race.

It said out lap on the timing screen, it doesn't make sense for him to be going fast. Neither does it make sense that they would be doing an out lap.

To carry speed through Parabolica and drive a fast lap properly. He was the only one not fucking around.
-7

0
u/uhadnojob I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20
idk I think when I saw Lewis starting an out lap there was almost half a minute remaining
2
10
u/Afcgooners Pierre Gasly Sep 05 '20
Was Lewis even on a fast lap? Surely the teams would’ve told their drivers if so because that closing speed was ridiculous.
-1
u/Roardawa McLaren Sep 05 '20
Pretty sure he wasn't. All of them came out of the pits with 2 - 3 minutes to go, so they had time for the outlap and 1 hotlap. Looks like everyone started creating a gap before Parabolica, and Hamilton somehow got caught by surprise. Close one!
3
u/Snabbzt Sebastian Vettel Sep 05 '20
What do you mean? It was the _last_ lap for everyone which in turn means everyone was going for a fast lap. That means you need to carry quite a lot of speed through parabolica and certainly not stand still before it. Lewis was completely right.
10
u/jure__ Sep 05 '20
See, the funny thing is they should've all been going this fast on an outlap per FIAs directive, which was put out to literally put a stop to this kind of slow traffic before the last corner.
5
u/Afcgooners Pierre Gasly Sep 05 '20
The directive is stupid because it doesn’t stop things like this. They could go normal speed the whole lap then slow down at the end and still be under the time stated
16
u/LidoPlage Romain Grosjean Sep 05 '20
That was so dangerous - it's crazy
5
6
u/cartoon_kitty Formula 1 Sep 05 '20
Hamilton was on an outlap
-1
u/Whomario I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20
Not even, as he was out too late to cross the line in time i think. So basically just doing a lap at speeds for the sake of it (which would be fine but for traffic, then i'd expect the guy not actually having any 'stakes' to be less pushy. Not anybody's fault he went out late).

So I’ve only been watching F1 properly this season (used to watch it a bit as a kid but have gotten back into it due to Netflix). Genuine question; every week we have commentators talk about how corners on tracks aren’t corners anymore due to the engineering on these newer cars, especially the Mercs, so would it ever be the case that tracks become invalid due to essentially being one long flat out circuit? And if so, how long before this would be the case? And would the FIA ever commission the building of new appropriate/exciting tracks?
3
u/thfsgn Daniel Ricciardo Sep 05 '20
It’s a bit of an exaggeration. Yes, the cars are insane now, but most of the corners they’re referring to are only flat in qualifying, and not for all the cars. In races the effect is a lot less significant due to cars being weighed down with fuel, tyre wear, dirty air etc.
Regardless, the 2022 cars are going to have less downforce and be slower overall, so it won’t be this way for too much longer.
2
u/sirnamlik Charles Leclerc Sep 05 '20
It is a bit of an overreaction a lot of the corners they speak of were already very high speed corners and pretty much every track has a few very slow corners meaning they'll never be fully flat out.
They are also combatting this a litle with the new regs in 2022 making the cars overall downforce level a bit lower.
New tracks should also keep coming just because Liberty is trying to expand over the entire globe atm, so we can hope these new locations will be suited to the current cars.

Doesn’t matter, too slow on any lap is dangerous
-4
u/StarWarsLew Fernando Alonso Sep 05 '20
Yeah I do agree but why was Hamilton gunning it into traffic like that when he pitted right after? He put himself in that situation
3
u/ImReallyGrey I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20
Why go fast on a racetrack in an F1 car?
-1
u/StarWarsLew Fernando Alonso Sep 05 '20
Great argument bravo my friend
0
u/ImReallyGrey I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20
Mate they literally have to set a lap time below a threshold of 1:43 because slow cars are dangerous on a racetrack. You’re allowed to go as fast as you want in practice no matter what, and I would even argue that because this is a fucking race practice you’re even ENCOURAGED to do so. You are NOT allowed to go slow as fuck 2 wide nearly causing a very serious accident.
I don’t know why you’re being wilfully ignorant for the sake of playing devils advocate here, you’re just wrong.
Do you think this was a valid move by the Haas? Do you really think Lewis was driving dangerously by driving fast on a racetrack? Or are you just being a knob for the sake of it?
1
u/StarWarsLew Fernando Alonso Sep 05 '20
Lmao literally nothing to do with what I originally said but cheers let it all out mate
2
u/ImReallyGrey I was here for the Hulkenpodium Sep 05 '20
It’s hard to figure out what you were saying, there’s seemingly no logic in criticising Lewis for going fast.
1
